Dear Palace Theatre Supporters, This year was record-breaking and “ground-breaking” for the Palace Theatre. From July 2018 to June 2019 we opened our doors to over 157,000 patrons, expanded our youth offerings, and added three new properties to the Palace Theatre family. We began our year celebrating the grand opening of Forever Emma Studios - the new home of Palace Youth Theatre. This new space is named in loving memory of PYT’s own Emma Bechert who considered PYT her second home. Our team is continually inspired by the drive, discipline, and spirit of our youth performers. We are proud to provide a space that will further enrich and expand our programs. In the fall, we completed our renovation of the Spotlight Room, a new event space located next to the Palace Theatre at 96 Hanover Street. This year, we had the honor of hosting a number of events from corporate meetings to baby showers. In January, we launched our biggest endeavor yet: the Rex Theatre on 23 Amherst Street. We are currently restoring this building to create a 300-seat venue for entertainment and community events. This was made possible by the incredible support and backing of Mayor Joyce Craig and the Manchester Board of Aldermen. I feel enormously proud to have witnessed the growth of the Palace Theatre Trust over the years. The Palace brings over eight million dollars in economic activity to downtown Manchester each year. That number is only growing. Our success and expansion is a testament to the loyal and generous support of our patrons, members, donors, staff, and performers. Our Mission The Palace Theatre Trust enriches the region’s cultural life and serves as a community resource through its stewardship of the historic Palace Theatre and affiliate venues. The Palace Theatre Trust operates four distinct venues – the historic Palace Theatre, the Spotlight Room, Forever Emma Studios, and the Rex Theatre (expected opening October 2019). The Palace Theatre Trust fulfills its mission by responding creatively to the cultural and entertainment needs of the community, providing educational opportunities for performers and audiences of all ages, and operating in a fiscally responsible manner.

Facility Improvements & Theatre Restoration Building History: A Continued Legacy The Palace Theatre is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1914, the Palace was fashioned after its namesake in New York City. Since its construction, the building has functioned as a movie house, a classroom, a warehouse, and more. In 1974, the Palace was restored to its former glory. In an area that once had twenty-two theatres, our 834-seat building is the sole survivor of Manchester’s once thriving theatre district, “The Great White Way.” Today, the Palace continues its legacy of entertaining, inspiring, educating, and connecting the greater Manchester area. The Palace Theatre Trust is dedicated to the careful preservation of this historic landmark. Expansion of the Palace Theatre Trust & Facility Improvements Included:

Palace Youth Theatre The Palace Theatre Trust is firmly committed to strengthening access to theatre for youth in the Manchester area and beyond. Palace Youth Theatre (PYT) provides an avenue for young children and young adults to learn, perform, and grow as individuals within the Palace Theatre community. With access to state-of-the-art performance and rehearsal space, exposure and connection to industry professionals, and a full roster of experienced theatre personnel on staff, it is no wonder PYT is the largest and fastest-growing youth theatre program in the state. PYT delivers comprehensive and professional training for a variety of youth populations through the following educational initiatives. Palace Youth Theatre (755 Students, Grades 2-12)

Palace Youth Theatre produces seven Broadway Junior musicals per season. Each is individually auditioned, and all young performers who audition are cast. This is an opportunity for all students interested in creative, expressive engagement to participate in a show, regardless of ability or experience.

Palace Teen Company (PTC) (57 Students, Ages 12-18) & Palace Teen Apprentice Company (PTAC) (70 Students, Ages 12-18) High School Musical 2 Jr. (PYT)

Palace Teen Company and Palace Teen Apprentice Company are two programs designed for students who wish to pursue theatre performance beyond high school. The program includes audition training, weekly dance classes, workshops and master classes taught by industry professionals, and the opportunity to perform in a full-scale musical each semester.

Theatre Camps (525 Campers, Grades 2-12)

Palace Youth Theatre offers four two-week camp sessions in the summer, as well as two one-week sessions during February and April school vacation. In addition to typical day camp activities (arts and crafts, games, etc.), these camps offer a creative and engaged curriculum to students interested in all aspects of live theatre, and culminate in a musical performed by all campers on the Palace Theatre stage. Guys and Dolls Jr. (PTAC)

Palace Professional Theatre for Children - PPT4C

(23,000+ Attendees Total, For young and young-at-heart audiences) Palace Professional Theatre for Children hires a Summer Resident Company to perform a different one-hour children’s theatre production each week throughout the summer. PPT4C shows are geared toward children, and provide accessible, creative theatre productions on the historic Palace stage.

The Palace was proud to offer theatre tickets to more than 1800 children from three local elementary schools in low-income areas at no charge. For many of these students, these complimentary tickets provide them their first exposure to live theatre.

Forever Emma Studios Palace Youth Theatre found a new home at 516 Pine Street. What was once St. George’s Church is now Forever Emma Studios, named in loving memory of PYT’s own young performer, Emma Bechert. While the upper floor of the building has become the Palace’s set building/storage area for all Palace produced shows, the lower level has become a much-needed space for PYT’s ever-growing program. Forever Emma Studios includes two fully renovated dance studios, a 100-seat rehearsal space/theatre, a vocal coaching studio, youth staff offices, and youth costume/camp storage. The addition of Forever Emma Studios allows further expansion and enrichment of our curriculum offerings.

When the space next to the Palace Theatre moved locations, we saw an opportunity. The Palace Theatre Trust decided to lease the space, remodel it, and create an extraordinary event venue in downtown Manchester. By the fall of 2018, the property on 96 Hanover Street became the Spotlight Room at the Palace. The Spotlight Room draws upon both vintage and modern styles, featuring its original tin ceiling, large street front windows, hardwood flooring, and an open concept layout. Since its opening, the Spotlight Room has hosted a plethora of events from wedding receptions to corporate meetings. By the Numbers

In January of 2019, we broke ground on the newest addition to the Palace Theatre Trust: the Rex Theatre. Construction is currently underway to transform this building into a versatile 300-seat venue for musicians, theatre, comedy, community events, and more. Just a block away from the historic Palace Theatre and the Spotlight Room, this venue will add to our existing capabilities, expand economic growth for local businesses, and improve the cultural and civic affairs in Manchester. Building History: A Continued Legacy We are excited for the opportunity to revitalize this building, which has undergone a number of transformations over the years. Originally a printing press, the Rex served as a movie theatre from the 1940s to 1980s. 1989 saw the end of the Rex’s life as a movie house. Since then, the property has changed hands several times, functioning as a series of nightclubs. In 2016, the building was purchased by the Manchester Development Corporation (MDC). The Palace Theatre Trust entered into a private-public partnership with MDC in October 2018 with the shared goal of reviving the Rex and opening the space as a theatre once again.
