POLICE in Villajoyosa have arrested a pair of safecrackers who stole €50,000 plus jewellery in 16 robberies from hotel rooms across Spain. The investigation was carried out in association with Europol as the men were part of a gang operating in Germany, Portugal, Austria and the Czech Republic.

The men entered hotels posing as guests in their search for wealthy victims, sometimes checking in the night before.

The thieves have been remanded in custody with associates also nicked in Austria and Portugal.
