From the desk of Theo K

Thank you to everyone who supported BullishMagazine over the last year. The BullishMagazine Annual is a made up of selected advertisements that appeared in BullishMagazine over the last 16 months. The magazine has the support of most of the top breeders in the world. From Argentina to New Zealand. And most countries inbetween. Thank you! Congratulations to Hayley and Paul Seal. UK. Ch. Sealaville is our cover dog for this first annual of BullishMagazine. We have chosen him for the cover based on his incredible achievements in the UK in 2015. Number 3 All Breeds, 2 Best in Shows, Top Utility Dog 2015, Bulldog of the Year 2015. The list goes on and on. The breed was left out in the dark when the UK Kennel Club changed the standard in 2008, but he has effectively put the bulldog back on the map. We think he deserves another title: BullishMagazine International Bulldog of the Year 2015. I trust that the BullishMagazine Annual will become something to treasure for many years to come! Enjoy! Interview with Hayley Seal Interview by Božena Schuldesová ml Hayley Seal: „Our dogs are our family!“

On the end of November took place in Luton one of the most prestigious bulldog shows – BULLDOG OF THE YEAR 2015. It`s absolute winners became very popular bulldogs CH Sealaville He´s Tyler and female CH Sealaville She´s Kandi, whose owners are Hayley and Paul Seal (Sealaville bulldogs). Thanks to the personal visit of this show and afterparty as well, I had a great opportunity to meet in person Hayley herself. In my words I can describe her as the tough competitor in the showing ring, proud owner of her dogs, loving wife, also mother and now even grandmother. She is cheerful, amusing, strong minded and friendly person to chat with, that`s why I asked her to make an interview with her for our magazine. She kindly took this challenge and we might have a closer look what it is like to live in Seaville. Hayley, please tell me why the bulldog? What have led you to them? When and how the first bulldog came to you? My godfather had bulldogs when I was little he had a champion. And I was never allowed to touch them but I found them beautiful then and always wanted one since then , I purchased my first bulldog in 1992 from the Pringham kennels.

Interview with Hayley Seal Did you have the first bullyboy or girl from the Pringham? Even in that time you came towards the intention to exhibit or breed bulldogs? We had a girl from Pringhams , I bought her as a pet , but bred her later and from her second litter she became my first show girl. Sealaville Kinky Boots who I showed mainly at open shows. How you came up to the title Kennel Sealaville? Have you founded it together with Paul, or it was just your dream? Well when I had started breeding, I needed a kennel name and I lived in a place called Midville so I wanted our name in my affix as its more personal , so we came up with Seal as our last name & Ville the second half of were we lived. Do you remember on the first champion from your kennel? Yes of course champion Sealaville He’s the Duke made to be a champion in 2006 by judge Ove Germundson from Sweden. Sealaville have made great progress since that time and improved as well. How many champions have you raised actually? We have 10 champions, but two of them are not from our kennel. We just raised them from little pups in our kennel.

Interview with Hayley Seal Do you fancy shows? Are you celebrating victories? How you deal with the eventual loss in the ring? Yes we love showing. We celebrate when we win but you have to carry on when you don’t win , not every judge will like your dogs. In what kind of way are you training your bulldogs to be fit for shows? We stand from 8 weeks old on a table every day then we lead train about 3 months old but only small exercise . As I never over do exercise on a puppy. I am asking for it because your dogs are calm and balanced in the ring.Because we do this from a young age. How do you determine a role in handling with Paul? Who tend to pick more girls or boys? :-) We just pick which everone we want to handle. Sealaville He´s Tyler, now the living legend, champion, Winner of many shows, fresh winner of BOY 2015. Tell us, which title or victory of the Tyler is the most valuable for you? Best in show all breed at Darlington championship show and BOY 2015, BOB at Crufts & BIS at Belfast CH show.

Interview with Hayley Seal Tyler is a very famous dog, he has many devoted fans and admirers. Can you tell us something more about his character? He is well behaved but soon as you play he changes. He loves to play and very excitable. He loves to cuddle. And kisses, he is also very gentle towards puppies and other dogs. He has a great nature. What are your next goals with Tyler? Will we see him on the following shows or will you even put him into your breeding programme? We were going to end his show career at the end of 2015. But we have heard then many people love him in the big ring and we should continue to show him in 2016 so we have decided to carry on showing him. He will be used as well in our breeding with bitches we have, that can be bred to him. You used in breeding the fantastic dog Iceglint I´m Harry. From this match came up the Tyler. What are your priorities with the compliment dog? What might drive you away from the match? Well the mother of Tyler had a fantastic movement. So we usually use a dog to compliment what the bitch lacks, so we knew Toyah had faults and we needed a dog to compliment her faults so we came to the idea of Harry. As what she lacked he complimented , And I think we made the right choice.

Interview with Hayley Seal With what criteria are you choosing the right puppies from the litter? Well that’s a difficult one. As they change so much. But I look at 6 weeks for a good body shape, a good tail and no faults then as they grow if we see more than three faults then we sell. If by 3 months you still have no faults , this is usually the one you end up with for showing As all dogs have faults , but if you can have the least faults then that’s better for your breeding and for the dogs show career. Your dogs are winning all over the world. How important is it for you to send good quality dogs to other countries? It’s very important to have dogs all over the world that are of good quality from you or your lines as that is your reputation as a breeder. What kind of criteria has the perspective new owner has to match? Do you stay in contact with the new owners of your litters? I try to make sure all new owners of my puppies know about a bulldog. No what not to do and when not to do it . They have to have knowledge about a bulldog . I always tell new owners I’m there for them if they need any advise on anything to do with their dog and to just telephone me. I’m always in contact with all people who’s had puppies from me.

Interview with Hayley Seal You are not only the successful breeder of bulldogs, but also the judge on the shows. How do you see this role? Im very honored to judge bulldogs all over the world I love to see the dogs from different countries, as wherever you go there are some stunning examples of the breed. Where have you judged worldwide? I have judged in England, Thailand, America , Brazil, Spain, Italy, Hungary , Bulgaria, Ireland & Cyprus In 2016 I’m judging in America & Denmark How are you satisfied with the general quality of dogs? The overall quality of dogs have been great, there are some beautiful dogs out there that could compete and win in the UK. How you would assess the health condition of bulldogs nowdays in general? Would you make some principled changes? And if, then please name them. The bulldogs we see nowdays are the healthiest I’ve ever seen them , you don’t see or hear dogs gasping for breath and can’t walk without struggling to breath anymore, that’s a thing belonging to the past. Thank you for the interview.
