Overview

Theodore Walrond is a neuroscience graduate whose path has moved from the research lab toward the business of health. Known to most people as Rex, he trained in behavioral and cognitive neuroscience at the University of Florida, assisted on two research projects, and went on to complete graduate coursework in finance at the University of Notre Dame. He is currently building an early-stage venture in consumer health.

Research background

Walrond's research experience spans two settings. In the summer of 2021 he was a research assistant at Romark Laboratories, where he organized data on more than 25 COVID-19 drug candidates and reviewed the published evidence on the antiviral potential of niclosamide. From 2022 to 2023 he worked at UF's McKnight Brain Institute on an evidence synthesis asking whether a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a bleed into the space around the brain, may raise the risk of Alzheimer's disease later in life. His analysis of more than 300 studies became a framework of linking variables that the team used to decide which experiments to pursue, and he presented the findings to faculty across three departments.
