Review: ‘Kamikaze’ combines new and old Eminem dar nell poin ter staff reporter

Eminem attacked his fans with the surprise album “Kamikaze,” on Aug. 31. Eminem’s previous album, “Revival,” didn’t sit well with the public with many conscious songs about politics, the state of America and his mental state. Despite this, Eminem will always be a favorite because of his ability to play with words and switch up the flow on a dime. This album disses Eminem’s critics and offers a beat fans can bob their head to while he reclaims his fan base. Eminem’s first track, “The Ringer,” wastes no time ad-
dressing several issues. This track is noticeable because of how minimalistic the beat is compared to his other songs. He disses the new style of mumble rap saying, “If you ain’t Kendrick or Cole or Sean then you’re a goner.” He also takes shots at Charlamagne tha God and Donald Trump. On the second track, “Greatest,” Eminem features Slim Shady. Slim Shady uses a fast flowing beat with a multisyllabic rhyme scheme to show people that he in fact is the greatest. He offers his expected lyrical genius with, “float like a butterfly, I’m gonna sting like a bee.” He also catches the
listeners’ attention when he says, “You ain’t harmin’ a thing….But like a wedding band, you gotta be diamond to even climb in the ring, an anomaly, I’m Muhammad Ali.” The chorus killed the beat but pauses between the chorus and the next verse saved it. One song that connects with listeners is “Stepping Stones.” In the song, Eminem raps about old his old rap group, D12, and how he feels guilty for using the group to raise his popularity. He also mentions that there was turmoil in the group after Eminem’s group member, Proof, died in 2006. He then addresses the jealousy he felt from his group when he was riding in
fame. Eminem apologizes for using his old group as a stepping stone and says his goodbye to D12. “Not Alike” featuring Royce Da 5’9” proves this duo is a hit when both rappers combine their sense of humor. We see their sense of humor at work when Eminem imitates Migos’ “Bad and Boujee” flow in the beginning of the song. We also see Eminem mock mumble rappers as he repeats the same lyric three times in a row followed by random ad-libs. It is clear Royce feels the same way about the state of hip-hop as he states, “Y’all music sound like Dr. Seuss inspired it.” Out of the 11 songs on the

Review: ‘Juliet, Naked’ offers unique take on love story jad en b est eda staff reporter @o c olly
Love can come in many forms but rarely does it take shape in the way this quirky, romantic comedy does. In the same year as several successful romantic features, “Juliet, Naked,” sets itself apart from the pack. Amazing performances by the entire cast elevate the film. This story is centered around a couple who has dated for four years, yet in the beginning of the movie can barely stand to hold a 5-minute conversation with one another.
Their love is so far gone that the simple gesture of Chris O’Dowd’s character Duncan Thomson stroking his girlfriend’s hair frightens her. The always wonderful and relatable Rose Brynn plays Annie Platt. Annie is a woman that realizes she’s wasted the last 15 years of her life for several reasons. is impressive from the script to the way Jesse Peretz decides to mix the film’s serious tones with a sprinkle of comedy. Hiding his co-star’s pregnancy might have been the easiest task. At the core of the film, the underlying themes run deep. It is no doubt a romance, but the story is also about second chances. Hawkes’ character is a deeply flawed man with issues that will make viewers question the morality of the character they want to care about. In contrast, there are many likable characters to round up this Nick
Hornby novel adaptation. This includes Annie’s sister Carly, who romances every woman that crosses her path. She is an absolute scene stealer. The movie is not perfect because of some issues with the pacing in the middle act. However, this assessment would be a little nitpicky. For viewers that enjoy music, dramas, and a sweet, uncommon love story, this is the film for you.

As Mike Gundy sat outside and drank his morning coffee, he decided to make a phone call. It was the day after the Oklahoma State football team’s home season opener. The Cowboys crushed Missouri State 58-17, and the stadium’s giant new video board made its debut. Gundy, OSU’s coach, wanted to tell the venue’s namesake about the gameday environment. Although Gundy couldn’t reach T. Boone Pickens on Friday morning, he left a voicemail and talked to Pickens for 10-15 minutes on Sunday, he said. One day before the season opener, Pickens released a statement in which he announced that he planned to attend every Cowboy football game this season. But Pickens, who suffered a series of strokes and other health complications in the past year, didn’t sit in Boone Pickens Stadium when OSU took the field. He expressed his apologies on Twitter. “Made it to airplane taking me to #okstate game,” Pickens said in the tweet. “Felt exhausted and unsteady. Will be at game in spirit, not in person. Thanks for understanding.” When Gundy saw the vivid images on the video board and heard the fans roar, he realized he had
