In unison, they strike the cushioned wall in front of them, creating a booming pulse that carries the game-day energy throughout Boone Pickens Stadium.

The Paddle People’s presence at football games is an Oklahoma State tradition.

After an incident at the South Alabama game, the group plans to continue making the stadium rowdy, but it intends to take safety precautions when the Cowboys face Boise State at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Lesley McCaslin, a reporter for Fox Sports, was standing on the sidelines last Saturday during the second quarter of OSU’s matchup against the Jaguars when she was hit on the head with a paddle. It happened where the wall juts out on the north side of Boone Pickens Stadium west of the visiting team’s bench.

Thursday afternoon, McCaslin shared her story of the event on Twitter and Instagram with a photograph of her and Pistol Pete.

“Sometimes, there are workplace hazards even for a sideline reporter!” McCaslin said in the post. “I always love going to Stillwater and hanging out with the paddle people -- however, I learned this weekend, sometimes you can get a little too close.”

Gavin Lang, OSU’s assistant athletic director and director of communications, said in a phone interview that OSU medical staff promptly tended to McCaslin in the training room after the accident.

The head injury didn’t keep her away from her job for long.

McCaslin interviewed coach Mike Gundy before halftime and stayed on the field through the second half, Lang said.

Lang said that Paddle People representatives met with OSU Athletics on Thursday to discuss ways to avoid future safety risks. Starting at the Boise State game, the Paddle People will slightly adjust their location in the stadium.

“They’re going to scoot down a little bit farther to the west to avoid kind of that one tight area, that hotspot where the accident happened,” Lang said.

Review: ‘The Nun’ follows box office prequel trend v icto r an gu ian o staff reporter @ ocolly

As much as fans loved “The Conjuring” and “The Conjuring 2,” “The Nun” does not measure up.

It seems in an age of prequels, this measures up to about the same disappointment as the prequel of “Star Wars.”

“The Nun” performed incredibly well in the box office, but it seemed to receive abysmal reviews across the board. This could be due to many lovers of “The Conjuring” series expecting greatness.

“The Nun” has three main characters who set out to decide whether a

castle is still holy or not.

It takes place in Romania, depicting the setting as foreign and old. This makes the viewing experience fun, but that is not why people go to see a horror movie. People go to a horror movie to be scared, and “The Nun” simply did not do that.

Just like in the trailer, the flick is filled with obvious jump scares. Other movies in “The Conjuring” series dedicated time to story telling, and that is what made them so scary. “The Nun” seems like a rushed attempt for Warner Bros. to make some cash. In many places, it was illogical. Maybe it was a nod to the knowledge of people at

the time, or it was merely the result of poor writing.

There is silliness, which can be used to emphasize scary parts, but in this movie, it was just filler.

Another odd aspect of the movie was the use of

Vera Farmiga’s younger sister, Taissa Farmiga, as one of the main characters.

Audiences are accustomed to Vera Farmiga portraying Lorraine Warren as one of the main ghost hunters in “The Conjuring.” This

leads fans to want to make a connection that distracts from the plot line in the movie.

Despite the movie’s disappointing ability to narrate, the flick looked great. It had beautiful camera movement that seemed new to the genre.

The dizzying effect of constant panning made some scenes feel uneasy but exciting. The organization of props and characters within their surroundings appeared to be done by a more seasoned director than Corin Hardy, who made his directorial debut in 2015. If viewers were more attentive to screenplay, this movie was more enjoyable.

“The Nun” felt like the Indiana Jones movies meshed with the Conjuring movies, which made it pretty fun. Those who still plan to see “The Nun” despite its poor reviews should not expect it to be the best horror film to date but, fans can enjoy the combination of slight silliness and spookiness. It gives a chance to experience one of the few horror movies this summer has to offer but hope writers do better with “The Conjuring 3.”
