Five is always a good milestone.

The Oklahoma State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted its fifth annual N7 Youth Movement Field Day on Tuesday at Boone Pickens Stadium.

The movement is a part of Nike’s nationwide funding plan to “bring sport and all of its benefits to Native American and Aboriginal communities in the United States and Canada,” according to its website.

Former OSU soccer player Lana Duke was credited with bringing the program to Stillwater campus when it was first hosted in 2014 with about 150 students in attendance. In its fifth year, the attendance increased to about 400 Native American students from around the state of Oklahoma who signed up to come and meet OSU athletes, tour campus and get active while learning about their Native American heritage.

Junior track and field runner Sukhi Khosla, the director of this year’s event, said the biggest takeaway of the event is to promote health and being active to the community.

“The goal is teaching them about athletics as a possible avenue in the future,” Khosla said. “It’s important to get out and be active and try to be healthy and get connected to the community. There is a lot of disparity in America in general, especially the Native American population. There is a bad statistic for obesity,

heart disease and I think that getting the kids when they are young and still applicable and teaching them that activity and health is important, obviously it will be passed on for generations to come.”

The participants were separated into nine stations representing nine different sports, in which they trained and participated with about 200 OSU student athletes, members of SAAC and Center of Sovereign Nations who volunteered for the event, Khosla said. Several OSU athletes volunteered including men’s and women’s basketball players Duncan Demuth, Thomas Dziagwa and Vivian Gray, soccer players Haley Woodard and Jaci Jones and football players Britton Abbott and Justice Hill.

SAAC adviser Jawauna Harding said the athletes’ appearance is the inspiration for the kids who were in attendance.

“The reason athletics has put this on is because it is a youth movement,” Harding said. “It is the purpose of bringing health and wellness to Native American tribes and starting with the youth is the most important thing, teach them young. Here they are, seeing these athletes who are in peak physical condition and live a very active lifestyle. We want for the kids to pick that up.”

Dwayne Hornbuckle, a member of the Youth Outreach of the Choctaw Nation who has volunteered for each of the five field days, was in charge of the stickball station.

“The station we do is stickball which it is a cultural event,” Hornbuckle said. “And while it might not be cultural to all the tribes that are represented here, but we would like to let them kids know that they don’t have to be ashamed of their culture anymore. A lot of people have racism but it’s based on fear because they don’t know about other people’s culture. The preparation of the field day started at the conclusion of the past year’s event, and SAAC members spent time and effort getting sponsorships, designing shirts, planning the schedule and promoting the events, Khosla said.

The new Student Government Association president and vice president could be determined as soon as next week.

The SGA Supreme Court heard the accusations against all three campaigns Monday. The justices listened to the complaints and the defense from the candidates at the hearing, which lasted more than two hours. A decision regarding the severity of the violations was not determined at the hearings.

A case against the Dunn/ Gragg campaign claimed the campaign used green balloons to entice people to vote for them in the election, which could be a possible violation of bylaw 4.3.4, which states no candidate/candidate pair may distribute any form of enticement, according to the SGA election bylaws.

The accusation, which Kelsey Briggs, Ashley Shultz, Aaron Carmichael, James Hood, Catherine Appling, Lexi Barry and Samantha Buckalew filed, claimed the balloons were given out with fliers attached to them that had QR codes linking to the election website.

The defense claimed the balloons were used as an advertisement for the campaign, and the QR code linked to their campaign website.

Anna Homan, a recreational therapy junior,

served as a witness for the Dunn/Gragg campaign and testified for the candidates.

“The green balloons were a branding effort for the campaign, and with the QR code attached it gave students easier access to the voting website,” Homan said.

The Swanson/Chancelor campaign was also accused of enticement during the hearings, a possible violation of bylaw 4.3.4, which states no candidate/candidate pair may distribute any form of enticement, according to the SGA election bylaws.

The accusation, which Caroline Sanders initially filed, claimed the campaign advertised campaign events with the promise of pizza for those who attended. The campaign offered multiple testimonies claiming no pizza was given at the events they hosted.

“I think it’s pretty clear that a balloon that is lime green, meant to draw attention, is indeed more recently considered an advertisement material closer to a button than say a piece of pizza,” said SGA Senator Alex Garcia.

The accusation against the Kirksey/Ball campaign was discussed privately between vice presidential candidate JT Gragg, Chief Justice Preston Lewis and SGA representatives Marcus Heald and Alex Garcia.

agreed to the summary judgement Garcia proposed. A summary judgement is a judgement against a party without a full trial.

The Kirksey/Ball campaign was accused of posting a campaign advertisement in an SGA Sustainability group message.

The SGA Sustainability group chat was reported to be potentially an official SGA group message, which could be a possible violation of SGA bylaw 4.3.2, which states no candidate/candidate pair may use any SGA resources for campaigning, according to the SGA election bylaws.

At the conclusion of the SGA Supreme Court hearings the justices informed the candidates a decision will come in the next five days. This effectively postpones the runoff election that was initially scheduled for Tuesday.

Melisa Echols, coordinator of SGA Programs, said the runoff will be moved to April 2-3. The candidates who will participate in the runoff will not be determined until the SGA Supreme Court makes its decision known.

Why Thanos is the hero, not villain of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Je t T ur n er, E ntertain m e n t E d i to r ,

We are officially one month away from the release of “Avengers: EndGame.”

Since the announcement of the title, there have been two trailers released and a movie poster. Fans everywhere have been speculating about the events that could happen in the upcoming summer blockbuster.

I have given a lot of thought to the events that happened in “Avengers: Infinity War” and how the entire “Infinity Saga” (22 movies) could possibly come to a satisfying conclusion.

The only movie sagas I can think of that come relatively close to the scale of this one are “Star Wars” and “Lord of the Rings,” but those seem miniscule in comparison to the “Infinity Saga” Marvel Studios has created.

There are still similarities between each, though.

The biggest similarity I could think of between each series is the overarching hero of the entire saga. In the original six “Star Wars” movies, Anakin is the overarching hero. In the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, it’s Frodo.

Each of the heroes go through a dark period in their development but end up saving the day at the end.

But who is the overarching hero of the entire “Infinity Saga”?

Some would be quick to say Tony Stark/Iron Man or Steve Rogers/Captain America is the hero of this saga, considering they are two of the most exposed heroes in the entire

Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Some may have other opinions on who the overarching hero is.

I, however, have a different and probably unpopular opinion as to who the hero of the entire “Infinity Saga” is.

Thanos.

That’s right, I believe The Mad Titan himself is the overarching hero of the entire MCU up to this point. Here is why:

Screen time Although he isn’t really fleshed-out in Marvel movies before “Infinity War,” the threat of him is always looming in the background.

In “Infinity War,” Thanos has the most screen time of any character.

“Infinity War” and “EndGame” director Joe Russo mentioned in an interview the scale of Thanos’ roll in the movie. “[Thanos] was a threat but he was not developed in any way up to this point,” Russo said. “Thanos has an incredible amount of screen time in this film, in a lot of ways I would say it’s his movie.

Usually only superheroes get their own movie.

Think about after all the credits rolled at the end of “Infinity War” too. Fans were used to seeing “Tony Stark will Return” or “Black Panther will return,” but what did we get at the end of “Infinity War”? “Thanos will return.”

Contary to popular belief, Thanos, The Mad Titan himself, is the overarching hero of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

ultimately a good one. Sure he might have gone about it in the wrong way, but he wants to end of the suffering of the universe. Why is that a bad thing?

Anakin Skywalker only wanted to save the life of his wife and kids. That was his reason for turning to the dark side. Thanos, likewise, only wants to help planets and species around the universe not meet the fate of his home world, Titan, that fell due to overpopulation.

In his words, Thanos sacrificed “everything” for the betterment of the universe.

Overcoming the odds Heroes usually overcome a lot of obstacles before they succeed in making the world

peaceful once again. Thanos is no different.

All the odds were stacked against Thanos. He had to overcome the entire Nova Corps to get the power stones, had to take on all of the remaining Asgardians (including Thor, Loki and the Hulk) to get the space stones, had to seek out The Collector and overcome the Guardians of the Galaxy to get the reality stone, had to kill his favorite step-daughter to acquire the soul stone, had to beat a handful of Avengers on his home world to get the time stone, and, finally, had to beat all of the Wakanda forces and remaining Avengers to get the mind stone.

He was even stabbed in the chest, and through sheer force-of-will was able to snap

his fingers before Thor could inflict any more damage on him.

If those aren’t unfavorable odds stacked against Thanos, I don’t know what is.

Redemption The heroes in “Star Wars” and “Lord of the Rings” all went through a dark time in their character development before they were redeemed.

Anakin became Darth Vader, and Frodo was overcome by the greed of the Ring.

Likewise, I believe that Thanos will have his redemption in “EndGame.” I do not think there is a way for the Avengers to succeed in bringing everyone back without the help of Thanos.

After the snap, the gauntlet

was destroyed. Thanos is also probably the only person who could possibly restore the gauntlet to its original state and is the only one with the knowledge needed to wield such a weapon.

The loss of his adopted daughter Gamora obviously impacted Thanos in a way no one expected. I believe this will be why he goes back on his wrongdoings, ultimately redeeming himself.

Thanos is not the hero we all wanted. He is, however, the hero we all deserve.
