The pregame festivities at Boone Pickens Stadium on Saturday might garner less attention than usual.

Instead of watching Bullet’s gallop across the turf, some eyes will be glued to cell phones and scoreboards as fans monitor the progress of Texas Tech’s game against TCU in Lubbock.

That game, which kicks off at 11 a.m., has potential season-changing implications for the Cowboys, who play Kansas State at 2:30 p.m. A Tech victory, combined with a win for the Cowboys, would put OSU in the driver’s seat for a

If OSU quarterback Mason Rudolph and Co. are anxious to see the result, they aren’t showing it.

“We have to weigh how everything structures, (College Football) Playoff and the Big 12,” Rudolph said. “Every week is huge, whether we are playing Tulsa or Texas Tech, we play them all the same. We come up with a plan and try to execute it and control it.”

The Cowboys (8-2 overall, 5-2 Big 12) have won their past two games against K-State (5-5, 3-4), but each were decided late in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats’ record denotes an aver-

age team, but coach Mike Gundy insists Bill Snyder’s squad is better than that.

“Don’t let the record fool you,” Gundy said. “I think we all know in this league that you can take the majority of the teams in this league and put them on a neutral site, and it’s gonna be a tossup.”

Third-string quarterback Skylar Thompson made his first career start for the Wildcats against West Virginia last week and will be the fourth K-State signalcaller the Cowboys have faced in the past three years.

K-State’s usual starter, Jesse Ertz, has missed the past five games with a knee injury, and backup Alex Delton has missed the past

two games with a head injury.

The Wildcats utilized a heavy rushing attack in their past couple of meetings with the Cowboys, and quarterbacks have accounted for a large portion of the yardage.

Ertz carried the ball a whopping 30 times for 153 yards and three scores last year, and the combination of Kody Cook and Joe Hubener totaled 95 yards and two touchdowns the year before.

In short, the Wildcats have dominated the ground game in the past pair of matchups, rushing for 489 yards compared to OSU’s 229.

NEWS The Northern Oklahoma Food Truck POSSE will be at the event offering different food truck options throughout the event.

Visit Stillwater is hosting the events and offers discounted group rates for groups with more than 10 people. For birthday parties at the ice rink, the staff will host a group of up to 50 people for $400 for two hours.

The rink will also cater to OSU students and organizations, including Greek life.

“Customers can rent the ice rink for parties for a two hour period time by filling out a form on our website,” Vincent said. “The group can then contact the differ-

ent partners they’d like at their party to schedule arrangements.”

To reserve the ice rink or get information, go to www.visitstillwater. org/holidays or the Visit Stillwater office located at 2617 W. 6th Ave. The $10 daily admission includes the skate rental, for those with their own skates, admission is $7.

Vincent said Monday nights would be geared toward couples who want to celebrate a date night in Stillwater.

Although Vincent and her team are focused on this year’s event, they’re also excited for a future of winter wonderland in Stillwater. TravelOK.com

projects the event will have more than 7,500 attendees, and Vincent said she knows the potential to grow the audience each year.

“This first year, the real goal that we have is that people have a good time and that everything runs smoothly,” Vincent said. “We want to make this year’s event as special as possible and then we can focus on next year’s when that time comes.”

For the last 7 years, residents of Stillwater have had to drive to Oklahoma City to experience a winter wonderland. But starting Nov. 24, the winter wonderland will make its return to Stillwater.

The 39-day event will last through New Year’s and feature an ice rink, carriage rides, reindeer feedings and visits with Santa. Admission will be $10 to the ice rink. Winter Wonderland will also FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2017

have special event nights, including live music and autograph nights with OSU athletes.

Kylie Vincent, vice president of Visit Stillwater, said she hopes the attraction will bring people to Stillwater like other rinks brought patrons to the metro area.

“We are thrilled to create an experience that can bring people to Stillwater this holiday season,” Vincent said.

“We hope that people will travel to Stillwater and then stay overnight.”

The 4,900 square foot “real-ice” rink will cover

a full city block at Block 34 and open daily from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. through Dec. 21, and 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Fridays. As Christmas approaches, the wonderland will be open 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. from Dec.21 through New Year’s Day. Nick Ledbetter, owner of the Reindeer Club of Oklahoma, will have his reindeer at the event daily throughout the season. Stillwater residents will also be able to enjoy free carriage rides from Andy Kincaid’s carriage service through Dec. 31.
