During an intense practice Wednesday, Oklahoma State women’s basketball coaches motivated players to focus on little details because the team will face yet another tough task this weekend.

Friday night, the Cowgirls plays No. 7 UCLA, which will mark the first time in program history OSU faces consecutive top-10 nonconference opponents. However, after playing Mississippi State on the road Sunday, this matchup is in GallagherIba Arena.

UCLA (7-1) has two players on the Naismith Award watch list as top50 players in the country, point guard Jordin Canada and forward Monique Billings, which results in stellar senior matchups against OSU’s transfer guard Loryn Goodwin and center Kaylee Jensen.

Littell said he relates the Bruins’ success this season to teams they played from the Big 12. UCLA won against then-No. 3 Baylor by 14 points and against Kansas State by nine.

The latest win for OSU against a top-10 opponent happened Dec. 30, 2015, a 52-45 win against No. 4 Baylor in Stillwater.

Brittney Martin, who played all 40 minutes, led the Cowgirls to victory with 26 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocks.

OSU might need a similar performance from Goodwin against the Bruins.

Although Goodwin will play against a notable point guard, she said she is confident in her abilities and isn’t worried about the hype. Goodwin is averaging 32.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals against ranked teams this season.

Her mindset isn’t for

moral victories, though.

“It is good to play close with teams who are in the top 10 or just really great teams, in general,” Goodwin said. “But, I think we need to come out with a win to really put ourselves on the map and to give us confidence moving forward. “… I am just going to go hard on every possession. I am going to do whatever I can to help the team win.”
