Still Delayed Initially Set to open Before Fall 2017, Apartment Complex Avid Square has a new name But is Still Under Construction

Although Avid Square assured future residents they could move into their apartments when construction would complete at the start of 2018, no one will move in to the complex at Fourth Avenue and Hester Street anytime soon.

Originally, Avid Square planned to welcome residents at the beginning of Oklahoma State University’s 2017-18 school year.

That didn’t happen, as construction fell behind and the company tenants in June about the delay.

More than 100 students had signed leases and planned to live there.

Twenty-five of those students found living arrangements at Avid Square’s sister complex, The Reserve on Perkins.

Heather Campbell, Avid Square community manager, said because Avid Square is not finished, the 25 students have the opportunity to stay at the Reserves next semester.

“Last month, we notified residents that signed leases about the situation and the options they have,” Campbell said.

“We gave them the option to terminate their leases without penalty at the end of the semester, or they can continue living at the Reserve through the end of the school year.”

“They only emailed me and said they weren’t opening,” Lewis said.

Lewis said she found space at Progress 405 for this year, and she does not plan to live at Avid Square when construction is complete.

In the wake of its delay, Avid Square has gone silent, not posting on Twitter or Facebook since June. Its office is at 405 S. Washington St. and has sat closed for months.

“With the opening of the building uncertain, there was no need to have a leasing office open,” Campbell said. “(Students) can begin leasing when the office re-opens.

However, we won’t be able to do that until we have a firm completion date.”

She said Avid Square changed its name to One on 4th, but the sign on the leasing office still says Avid Square.

“The ownership structure hasn’t changed throughout the whole process,” Campbell said.

“The community’s name is changing to one of the in-house brands we rolled out this year.”

Desiree Atkins, a strategic communications sophomore, signed a lease with Avid Square and decided to live at The Reserve.

“I was given the choice the choice to stay at their

sister property or finding somewhere else to live,” Atkins said. “ I chose to stay at their sister property, which is the Reserve on Perkins. I also received a $700 gift card and the opportunity to choose a short-term lease at no extra charge.”

Atkins said she initially planned to move into Avid Square when construction finished.

“I was told that as soon as Avid Square was finished being built, I could move there with no charge of leaving the Reserves,” Atkins said.

Atkins said she has decided not to stay at Avid Square. She said The Reserve has not met some of her needs, such as fixing her thermostat for winter.

“I feel like if the management is similar to what it’s like at the Reserves, then I won’t be staying at Avid (Square),” Atkins said.

Campbell said Avid Square has handled the situation the best it can.

“We believe we have done our best to keep students who signed up to live at Avid Square informed every step of the way,” Campbell said.

“There were some people disappointed about the situation but nothing rising to the level of backlash.”

Skyrim, arguably the best role-playing game ever made, has come to Nintendo’s Switch this year, giving players the opportunity to play it on the go.

This is more a review of the port of Skyrim to the Switch than a review of the actual game itself.

Before we get into that, however, let’s take a trip through the past. Cast your gaze back to 2011.

held mode, but Skyrim handles it amazingly well.

Completely customizable controls help with this, allowing the assigning of the actions on whatever button helps the player.

Docked mode with a pro controller is a breeze as well.

The sound is also captured well in the game.

Those who have played Skyrim will know the music is beautiful, perfectly accentuating exploration, combat, and tense moments. The internal speakers on the Switch handle this well enough, but I would recommend headphones for the best experience.

New to Skyrim is the Switch’s HD Rumble features. The Switch features a complex system of vibrating gyros in each Joycon, making each swing of the sword feel amazing. I never really gave the HD Rumble on my Switch any attention until Skyrim, now I can’t imagine playing the game without it. It is a subtle way that Nintendo has not only taken Skyrim handheld, but actually improved on it over other versions.

Now for some small things that I found troublesome. For one, the game is extremely dark in handheld mode. Even with the brightness all the way up on the Switch’s screen and facing away from a light source, I found some dungeons too dark to see what I was doing. Dying to an enemy you can’t see

isn’t fun. I would recommend you keep the Switch out of bright light if you go exploring dungeons.

Another thing that could be potentially catastrophic is Nintendo’s stubbornness on backup files.

Bethesda games, and most specifically Skyrim, are notorious for having the save randomly corrupt, rendering 40 hours of gameplay extinct. Every other system the game is on has the ability to export the file to another source, giving the potential for a backup if something went wrong. With the Switch, if for some reason the file corrupts or your system’s memory is accidentally wiped, say goodbye to your character.

“The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim” for the Nintendo Switch is everything anyone could hope for. The game runs amazingly well, portable or docked, and doesn’t stutter a bit. All the extra content added to the game after launch are included as well, meaning everything the PC version has, you have. Sound, gameplay and story are all there, just on a portable system with a 3-hour battery life.

If you have a Nintendo Switch, or are thinking of getting one, not picking up Skyrim would be a bad decision.
