With COVID-19 cases spiking in Oklahoma and students coming back to campus in August, Oklahoma State University is prioritize sanitization this summer. In many ways, this plan is already coming into fruition. “OSU Facilities Management’s cleaning contractor, ABM Services, will continue to follow the guidance of OSU, local, and state health officials to continue with aggressive cleaning and disinfecting of our OSU facilities,” the university said in a statement. “ABM personnel wear protective equipment to protect their staff and others nearby while working. In addition to the continual regular cleaning, ABM also uses EPA-approved disinfectants frequently on common touch points including door handles, push plates, push bars; elevator buttons, stair rails, light switches, etc. “Touch-point cleaning is done daily in campus buildings and multiple times daily within areas of increased-use or higher risk.” ABM has a large quantity of these cleaning supplies-- including hand sanitizer-- and an-

ticipates to have enough for the future. In addition to this, OSU facilities management will also play a key role in cleaning the campus. They will use electrostatic and hydrogen peroxide va-

por disinfectant equipment in order to apply preventative coverage to targeted and common areas. Facilities management will also be receiving help for the larger areas.

“FM is working with several third-party professionals for preventive disinfection of large heavily used areas,” the statement read. “If a suspected or confirmedpositive COVID-19 exposure occurs on our

Stillwater campus, the first response should be to close off the area for forty-eight to seventytwo (48-72) hours to allow the contagion to expire. After the prescribed quiet time has elapsed, ABM can then

enter the area to perform cleaning and apply disinfectants.” Facilities management is also regularly inspecting the air handlers for central building air conditioning systems and taking the proper preventative measures to ensure clean air. This includes upgrading air filters. As for other daily items, facilities management is responding to sneeze guard requests, floor markers and other signs across campus. Some of these signs will tell students which way to walk when in a building and the limit to elevator capacity. Students and employees will be directly impacted in the daily safety measures. Everyone is required to wear face coverings inside buildings, with masks being provided to both employees and students. 2 oz hand sanitizer bottles will be provided to OSU employees and students and many more hand sanitizers stands are now available. “We have made and will continue to make the best decisions we can with your needs in mind and will communicate with you regularly throughout the semester about any changes,” OSU President Burns Hargis said in a statement.
