Source: Tyreek Hill called police in Nov. 3 verbal domestic dispute

Stillwater Police were alerted to the residence of former Oklahoma State football player Tyreek Hill on Nov. 3 after a previously unknown person called 911 regarding a verbal domestic dispute.

That person was Tyreek Hill, a source close to the situation told the O’Colly.

Stillwater Police would not confirm nor deny Hill as the caller, but a 911 tape the O’Colly obtained Wednesday through an open records request reveals the caller telling a 911 dispatcher that his girlfriend would not leave his home. Names of the caller and the girlfriend are redacted from the recording, per SPD protocol.

Hill is set to stand trial April 17 for one felony count of domestic assault and battery by strangulation for allegedly assaulting his eight-week pregnant girlfriend, Crystal Espinal, on Dec. 11. Hill was dismissed from the Oklahoma State football and track teams after his arrest and is no longer enrolled at OSU.

Espinal initially told police Hill has a “very volatile temper” and he “thought it was okay to punch and shake” her. Espinal also said there had been a previous physical altercation in the summer that she did not report, according to court documents.

Hill’s defense tried several times to cast doubt upon Espinal’s account and questioned the legitimacy of her injuries during a March 9 preliminary hearing at Payne County Courthouse.

Hill’s attorney, Cheryl Ramsey, also asked Espinal multiple times whether she had seen a psychologist for self-mutilation in the past, but Judge Katherine Thomas overruled the questioning as irrelevant to the case. Ramsey declined to comment for this story.

During the Nov. 3 call at 12:55 p.m., the caller told 911 that he and his girlfriend were not engaged in any sort of physical altercation, but that they were arguing and she would not leave his apartment at 1012 E. Echo Mountain Dr. The caller called back at 1:09 p.m. to tell 911 that the

woman had finally left.

Previous stories from other news outlets did not include the contents of the call nor the caller’s identity, instead only stating that police had been called to Hill’s residence in the past.

Hill faces a prison sentence of one to three years and/or a $3,000 fine for the charges stemming from his Dec. 11 arrest.

Collision claims life of OSU student Kaelynn Knoernschild @kaelynn_k

Three motorcyclists, including an Oklahoma State student, are dead after a wreck in Lincoln County on March 15.

About 6:25 p.m., a 2006 Chrysler 300, headed north on U.S. Highway 177 at the junction of State Highway 105, crossed the line of center and struck a motorcycle driven by Steven Franetovich, 49, of Shawnee, according to a report from Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Franetovich was thrown 70 feet from his motorcycle, which was then hit by motorcyclist and OSU student Clayton Franetovich, 20, also

from Shawnee.

He was thrown 20 feet from his motorcycle.

Another motorcyclist, Brian Bacon, 36, of Shawnee, laid his motorcycle down in an effort to avoid the wreck, and slid off the highway.

All three motorcyclists were wearing helmets and died at the scene, the report states.

The names of the driver and passenger of the car were withheld due to age, according to the report. The driver, of Stillwater, was uninjured and the passenger, from McCloud, was transported to Stillwater Medical Center, treated and released.

City redevelopment plan would change neighborhoods near OSU’s campus Evan Kiley @OColly

Stillwater might soon experience a fresh outlook to the neighborhoods adjacent to Oklahoma State’s campus.

In June 2012, Stillwater Land Development Services, led by Paula Dennison and Patty Evans, began a corridor redevelopment plan to provide a vision for the future growth of formbased codes in the neighborhoods north of Sixth Street, east of Washington and Knoblock streets, south of Hall of Fame Street and west of Main and Husband streets.

“There’s a lot of interest in utilizing the form-based code instead of our current zoning to go ahead and build by this area of town,” Dennison said. “Folks are starting to take a long, hard look at developing in this area of town to give an additional umpff.”

That additional umpff would be transitioning from the current Euclidean zoning Stillwater has, to a more urban modern formbased code style.

Euclidean zoning encourages separation of uses with no connectivity, does not allow for the traditional urban neighborhood forms,

fosters sprawl, excludes certain populations, is not flexible to meet a community’s or technology’s changes. Sprawl leads to dispersed land uses with few neighborhood centers, large land consumption, and excessive roadway infrastructure, according to the Land Development Services website.

Form-based districts, on the other hand, deemphasize land use in favor of building form, type and scale. This encourages a greater mix of land uses and places a stronger emphasis on design of the public realm. In addition, greater public participation in the planning process enables all stakeholders in the area to have a better understanding and expectation of the outcome of future development, according to the Land Development Services website.

Form-based codes are the newest trend that elevates physical design in planning as opposed to the use-based restrictions and separations. They also encourage a return to the traditional patterns that existed before the automobile and mix townhouses, apartments, offices, commercial activity, entertainment, shops, civic buildings, landscapes, etc. into a high-density area rather than separating them all into specific districts.

Many college towns such as San Marcos, Texas, Starkville, Mississippi, and the Pearl District of Tulsa, among others, have adopted the form-based code style of neighborhoods.

“Over 450 communities across the country have implemented some form of form-based codes,” Dennison said. “We did a lot of research into Starkville and San Marcos, as they have well-written and extensive form-based codes.”

The mixing of different buildings in one area would encourage walking and biking to certain spots as opposed to driving, Evans said. The form-based code would also have a walkway connecting downtown Stillwater to OSU’s campus making transportation more convenient, Dennison said.

“Stillwater has always been pioneering and looking to try something new,” Dennison said. “Whether it’s community, government, OSU–Stillwater is known to come up with new stuff.”

The primary goal of the form-based codes would be to provide Stillwater with a fresh, unique feel to OSU’s surrounding neighborhoods. Stillwater wants to be creative in its approach to developing these neighborhoods, reinvest and revitalize the older parts of

town, Dennison said.

Ideas to revitalize the area include improved light provisions to reduce light pollution in the area, new parking garages and public parking spots, facilities to chain bikes to and landscaping in the area for a greener, sustainable environment.

“We are focused on how the area looks, feels and relates to the citizens of Stillwater,” Evans said. “We want the area to available for mixed-uses and abide by more aesthetic standards and qualities.”

With the help of a 10-person member citizen group, the Land Development Services has discussed various ways in which form-based coding would work in the neighborhoods

adjacent to OSU. “We’re using a grassroots approach and receiving feedback on what they want to see and how it could really work here,” Dennison. “We encourage students from OSU to come to City Hall and give us details on what they want to see, as well.”

Dennison and Evans said they are concerned with whether the area will be inviting enough to pedestrians, bicyclists, a mass transit user and personal vehicle users. They want to be sure it will be easier to navigate as it will have more people coming to that place. To plan for this they want to be sure that sidewalks, streets and parks will be prepared if city council passes any ordinance to

begin use of form-based codes.

City council and the planning commission have shown positive reception and their approval of the form based-codes.

“We took just an introduction of form-based codes to city council and they were positive in the reception of it,” Dennison said. “They said, ‘Yes, bring us back an ordinance for us to discuss and take on action on.’”

City council will consider it for possible adoption April 20.

Stillwater Police are looking for a suspect they believe is connected to a

stabbing that occurred the evening of March 14.

Around 8 p.m., officers responded to a reported stabbing in the 1800 block of South Fern Street, according to a press release from SPD sent out on March 16.

Officers found a 67-yearold male who had been assaulted and stabbed multiple times, the release states. Witnesses told officers the suspect beat the victim with a bottle and then proceeded to stab the victim with the broken

bottle.

The victim was transported to an Oklahoma City hospital via EagleMed and was listed as being in good condition March 16, the release states.

Reported drive-by shooting in residential area Stillwater Police are investigating a reported drive-by shooting that occurred Friday morning.

About 7:45 a.m., officers were dispatched to

10th and Pine Streets in response to a shots fired call, according to a media release from Stillwater Police Department.

Officers found four shell

casings in the street in the 1000 block of South Pine, and discovered a home on the east side of the street had been struck four times, the release states.

Two adults were home during the time of the reported shooting, but the residents told police they were unaware their home had been shot at until of-

The suspect is described as a male in his twenties.

He was last seen leaving the scene as a passenger in a dark gray four-door car, possibly a Dodge Charger, heading south to 19th

So many times I have been encouraged (strengthened) when I was with other members of the church. At times it comes as others share scriptures that have become real to them. Other times it is through the testimony of someone who was helped in a special way, and the Lord had made himself so real to that individual. God can work in so many unusual ways. The teaching and preaching of the scriptures can be very challenging and encouraging. Singing together can be very uplifting. By being together around Christ, let’s encourage and be encouraged to finish our purpose in this world.

ST. LOUIS — Alex Dieringer still has a year left as an Oklahoma State Cowboy but has already compiled a lifetime’s worth of achievements in just three seasons of wrestling.

Saturday night, Dieringer claimed his second national title with a 14-7 victory over Indiana’s Taylor Walsh at the Scottrade Center in the 165-pound final. Dieringer scored a takedown just 19 seconds into the match and never trailed. The match almost seemed to come easy for Dieringer, who didn’t even smile after winning the match in front of nearly 20,000 fans.

“Coach ( John Smith) always told me the second one’s harder,” Dieringer said. “So I feel like this one feels a lot more special to me. Just coming back and going undefeated and pretty much getting 90 percent bonus matches.

And moving up, too, which made it a lot harder.

So I feel like I did pretty good this season.”

The victory also gave Dieringer his 100th career win. He is the 37th Cowboy to accomplish this feat, and the 25th under Smith. Dieringer finished with a perfect 34-0 record during the season, which featured 27 bonus-point victories. Dieringer’s record hasn’t seen a blemish since Jan. 10, 2014, when he lost to No. 1 Derek St. John of Iowa 2-1 in a dual on the road. Since then,

Dieringer has won 50 consecutive matches. The 2015 Big 12 Most Outstanding Wrestler has also never lost a conference bout in his career.

“It’s pretty special to me,” Dieringer said. “It’s a great feeling, knowing I got 100 wins and it’s only my junior season and on top of that get a national title. Feels good.”

Not only did Dieringer finish his junior campaign perfect after moving up from the 157-pound weight class, but also only two opponents all year managed to take him down. He outscored opponents 320-80 and tallied 13 falls. Dieringer led his team in number of pins, bonus-point victories and wins by technical fall.

Not only did Dieringer post one of the greatest seasons in Oklahoma State history, but he is also putting together one of the most successful careers in school history. Dieringer has been named a Big 12 champion and All-American every year of his career thus far. He placed third at the NCAA Tournament in 2013 as a redshirt freshman.

If Dieringer matches this season’s win total next year, he will jump to second in Oklahoma State history for most career wins. Smith currently sits atop the list with 152 wins during his career from 1984 through 1988.

Another top-eight finish at the NCAA Tournament would also make Dieringer the 14th Cowboy to earn four All-American honors.

one of the greatest ones,” Dieringer said. “But there’s been a lot of greats come out of (OSU). It’s not for me to judge. It’s for other people to judge.”

Winning is nothing new for Dieringer. He immediately started to find success the first time he stepped on a mat in second grade.

In his first year wrestling, Dieringer placed second at the state tournament.

He went on to claim two Wisconsin state titles while attending Port Washington High School.

Dieringer was also the Freestyle and Folkstyle Junior National Champion at Fargo, North Dakota, in 2010 before arriving at Oklahoma State.

“I’ve just always been really competitive,” Dieringer said. “Once I started wrestling in second grade, I fell in love with it.”

That passion for the sport might have been what drove Dieringer to find such success through his career.

The love motivates Dieringer to spend extra time in the wrestling room to do extra workouts and practice longer than his teammates. He also says his mindset separates him from his opponents.

“A lot of wrestling is your mindset,” Dieringer said. “I think I have a really good mindset at all times.

If I have a bad thought I throw it away. I’ll always stay positive pretty much.

If I have a bad practice, after practice I just forget about it and come back the next day.”

ST. LOUIS — The Oklahoma State Cowboys’ finish at the 2015 NCAA wrestling tournament was impressive for a team with three sophomores and two freshmen as contestants, and it gives hope that a championship team is in the making.

The Cowboys had four wrestlers with All-American honors. All of them will be returning next season.

Alex Dieringer led the team with an NCAA title at 165 pounds, his second in as many years. Dieringer

is hopeful about his last year and is optimistic about becoming one of Cowboy wrestling’s all-time win leaders.

“I think I probably would be top four all-time if I win out the rest of my career, but I’m still being top four in the best wrestling school in history is special to me,” Dieringer said. “I’m excited.

“I think I’d be known as one of the greatest ones.

But there’s been a lot of greats. … It’s not for me to judge.”

Dean Heil competed in his first tournament, finishing in fourth at 141 pounds.

Heil has a great chance to become a national champion in the future because

he placed top-five as a freshman.

Kyle Crutchmer was the third-best Cowboy to place, finishing in fifth at 174. This was also his first tournament, and he will be a junior next season. In resemblance, Chris Perry placed in the top-five at 174 his sophomore year and went on to win individual titles the next two seasons.

Eddie Klimara earned All-American honors for the first time by placing seventh at 125 pounds. He will be a senior next year.

The Cowboys will return junior Austin Marsden at heavyweight. Marsden was an All-American in 2014 but fell one match short of

placing in this year’s tournament.

The Cowboys will also return sophomores Nolan Boyd at 184 and Anthony Collica at 157. Like Marsden, Collica fell one match short of placing at this year’s tournament after losing in a tiebreaker No. 2 to Mitchell Minotti of Lehigh.

Cowboys’ coach John Smith confirmed that Collica will be moving down to the 149-pound weight class next season.

“Well, he’s going to be a lot more comfortable (moving down a weight),” Smith said. “From a standpoint of just finishes and power and things like that, it’ll make a difference for him.
