Burnout blues Students discuss ways of coping with end-of-term exhaustion Megan Cherry Staff Reporter With the end of the semester fast approaching, students have been tasked with staying motivated and persevering through the long term. Losing spring break made the semester difficult. “The hardest thing about this semester is having to power through the semester without having any break to look forward to. Usually an upcoming break motivates me and keeps me focused, but since this semester did not have that, I am burned out,” Carlyn Guthrie, a student at OSU, said. There are many ways to stay positive in stressful circumstances, some students have found solace in watching new shows and movies, or rewatching old favorites. “I love rewatching the How to Train Your Dragon See Blues on pg. 2

Center back smarts Jackson earning her roll as defensive leader Ben Hutchens Staff Reporter Dallas D’Feeters coaches Randy Shaw and Steve Davis had a short phrase they would break out during club soccer games. “Him and I would just turn to each other and go ‘so smart,’” Shaw said. “Ninetyfive percent of the time it would just be between the two of us on the sideline during a game and it would be because of something Ally (Jackson) did.” Jackson is a junior center back on the Oklahoma State Soccer team. She is a cerebral player, essentially the quarterback of the Cowgirl defense, who reads the game and directs teammates like traffic. She accumulated her soccer IQ playing club ball in North Texas, although

she was not always on the D’Feeters. “I had the misfortune of coaching against (Jackson) for the first part of her young
career,” Shaw said. “When you’re coaching at the highest level you notice the really talented players that are playing against your team and Ally
certainly fit that bill.” Jackson’s competitiveness was the first thing Shaw admired and what made coaching against her so difficult. It was only natural he started recruiting her to join the D’Feeters. “Ally was a player that was at the top of my recruiting list every year,” Shaw said. “I don’t know if my persistence wore her down or maybe the level our team was ascending to on the national stage attracted her enough that she wanted to (join).” Jackson joined the D’Feeters late in her high school career. The team was very good and already had an established starting lineup that housed several future college players. “She could have easily been on the outside looking in as a sub coming off the bench or a role player, but she just wasn’t going to allow that to happen,” Shaw said. Jackson adopted a team first mentality. Rather than See Center on pg. 6

News Blues... Continued from pg. 1 series after a long hard day of classes,” student Sarah Jarvis said. “It’s nice to just forget my own problems and just focus on the movie.” Another way some students are remaining motivated is with self care. Sometimes it can be therapeutic to have a spa day at home. “I love going to TJ Maxx and buying face masks, lotions, bath bombs and new nail polish. It’s way cheaper than going to an actual salon and I can stay at home” student Lauren Burch said. Seasonal depression can also hit students during the spring semester. When temperatures drop and the sun doesn’t come out for days, it can be easy for students to fall into despair. Luckily for some, spring usually brings back the sun and warmth and helps put everyone in a better mood. “The weather absolutely has an effect on my emotions, when it’s dark and gloomy outside that’s usually how I feel inside too,” Jarvis said. “I’m so glad that it’s finally nice outside again, I hate walking to class when it’s cold.” Luckily the semester is almost over and summer will bring some relief to many. Anyone struggling with depression or in need of some assistance can reach out to the OSU counseling services or call SAM at 1-855-2252726.

Four underrated organizations on campus Greeks have made it their responsibility to encourage ecofriendly habits in the Greek neighborhood through community and event planning. The club meets every Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., and the location varies. Bryanna Nickel Staff Reporter
OSU has many organizations that encourage involvement among the student body; here are four of those organizations everyone should know about:
1. Juggling Club
The Juggling Club is an organization that celebrates community through a shared hobby: juggling. The Juggling Club’s goal is to encourage new friendships and bring people joy through the form of a silly skill. No, one doesn’t need to know how to juggle to become a member; one simply must be willing to learn. The club meets every other Thursday at 9 p.m. in the Student Union, and everyone is welcome.
2. Green Greeks
Green Greeks is a new organization on campus. Since Greek Life does not have eco-representatives nor the same sustainability policies in place like on-campus life, the Green
3. Beta Alpha Chi
Beta Alpha Chi is an organization that focuses on educating students on how to properly care for animals as well as advocate for the welfare of animals. Any full-time undergraduate or graduate student with a 2.0 GPA is eligible to join.
4. Cornhole Club
Cornhole is a unique sport, and the Cornhole Club celebrates that. Jager Pifer, a biosystems and agricultural engineering freshman and president of the Cornhole Club absolutely loves their club and explained why their club is great for anyone. “I believe the Cornhole Club is great because cornhole is one of the fastest growing sports in the world right now. Anybody can play and anybody can win, regardless of who you are or your athletic ability,” Pifer said. Pifer also said that cornhole is one of few club sports that has the chance to be featured on ESPN. The club usually meets weekly at the Stillwater Area Sports Association, and anyone is welcome to join. More information about any of these clubs can be found on CampusLink, https://campuslink.okstate.edu/. entertainment.ed@ocolly.com
DON’T STUMBLE! (Part #3) “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate one another,” (Mt.24:9-10) All this I told you so that you will not go astray. (stumble) They will put you out of the synagogue, in fact a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering a service to God.” (Jn.16:1-2) The are many places in the scripture that tell of persecution of true believers. Jesus said if they did it to me they will do it to those who follow me. (Jn.15:20) Many times this will separate the true believers from the false. No one likes hardships, difficulties and certainly persecutions, but the challenge comes and we don’t want to stumble and fall away.
Jesus speaks to the Smyrna church in Revelation: "I know your afflictions...slander...do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer...the Devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be careful..." Does God allow persecution and trials of different kinds? He certainly does! Couldn't God deliver them out of bad situations? Of course! Sometimes He will and sometimes not. He even governs how long the difficulties will last. These are times when we see the grace of God in wonderful ways. His grace is made perfect in weaknesses. (2 Co.12:9) That is why we are not to be offended at God's ways. Difficulties can seem to be hindering the very work of God, but the Lord is working in and through the situation to accomplish something good in the end.

sports Center... Continued from pg. 1 asking her coaches what she needed to do to start she asked them what she needed to do for the team to win. “She actually makes it impossible for you to not play her,” Shaw said. Jackson was a top-100 recruit out of high school and had interest from several Power Five schools. Fittingly, it took her several visits to Stillwater before she decided to sign with OSU. “The whole time I knew (OSU) was one of my top options but once I figured out I didn’t want to be too close to home but not really far it was the perfect fit,” Jackson said. As the Cowgirls began conference play in Jackson’s freshman year, one of the OSU center backs hurt her ankle. “I was playing midfield at the time, and (coach) Collin (Carmichael) asked me, ‘Have you ever played center back?’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, in high school’ so ever since then I stepped up and I did pretty well and now I’m here,” Jackson said. She started every single game of her sophomore and junior campaigns and has become the glue that holds the Cowgirl back line together.
Carmichael called her the organizer. The nature of the center back position demands a player who can communicate with others and read the game. It is a true leadership position. “(Jackson) kind of grew into that (leadership) role,” Carmichael said. “I’m not sure she necessarily wanted it…but I think she realized when you play center back in a three back system you got to talk,
and you got to organize, and she does that really well.” Jackson is like a pastor when she communicates, she is instructional and inspirational. “Sometimes it’s tactical things like, ‘Shift here, press now, I’m with you,’” OSU wing back Hannah Webb said, “Other times she’s just saying things to remind you she’s there, ‘Hannah, great pass or good job.’ The vocal aspect
of her game has gotten really really good.” Anyone can yell on the field, but Jackson yells with a purpose. “She definitely is a leader back there,” OSU goalkeeper Amber Lockwood said. “She makes me feel extremely comfortable, just the support she has shown me throughout the year and just how consistent she is.” Just as anyone can yell on the field,
anyone can move the pieces around on a checkerboard. Only if the player has a strategy and can recognize things in the game before their opponent can, will those moves pay off. “She just had a chess versus checkers mentality to the game that had a level of sophistication and maturity that a lot of her peers would probably envy,” Shaw said. sports.ed@ocolly.com
sports Cowgirls close out spring slate at home
Chris Becker Staff Reporter The Oklahoma State women’s golf team closed out its spring season with the Cowgirl Match Play at Stillwater Country Club. The Cowgirls hosted Texas Tech, Tulsa and Oklahoma. Each team faced off with each other in the two day event in match play style. The event gave the Cowgirls a final preparation tournament prior to the Big 12 Tournament April 18-20. The Cowgirls started with Texas Tech on Sunday. The Cowgirls won the meeting 3-1-1 with Lianna Bailey, Han-Hsuan Yu and Rina Tatematsu each winning their
matches. Monday, the Cowgirls started with a match against Tulsa. The Cowgirls trailed the Golden Hurricane in four matches on the back nine, but empowered a comeback to win three of five matches. The Cowgirls then had a Bedlam match with Oklahoma to close out the event. The Cowgirls went down early much like against Tulsa, but couldn’t mount a second comeback on the day. The Cowgirls fell to the Sooners 3-2. Yu won all three of her matches for the Cowgirls and was the only Cowgirl to win all her matches. Isabella Fierro went 2-0-1 with a tie Sunday. The Cowgirls will have a week to prepare for the Big 12 Tournament. They have won their last two team events going in. sports.ed@ocolly.com
