‘Why not me?’ OSU student petitions for shot at vacant university president job

By Ryan Novozinsky Oklahoma State student Ryne Garrison was hanging with his buddies when he heard the news. “Burns Hargis retires after 13 years at OSU,” the headlines read. Garrison’s friends joked that he should try to replace Hargis as OSU’s president. In Garrison’s mind, however, this wasn’t a joke. “I was just joking around with some buddies and I said ‘hey, I’ll do it, why not me?’ I started thinking a little bit more about it and then I was like ‘you know what would be even funRyne Garrison is attempting to interview for OSU’s president vacancy.

game. “Tali (Notoa) did good things, a little dribble penetration to get her open, and she stepped up and made key shots for us,” Littell said. “(Natasha) Mack finished really well protecting the rim at the end and then getting every rebound. I thought we played smart the way we finished the game.” OSU point guard Ja’Mee Asberry was the biggest contributor to the run. After KSU’s Sydney Goodson hit a three to take the lead

with 4:56 remaining in the game, Asberry answered with a triple of her own to rip the lead back for the Cowgirls. It was one of four 3-pointers she would nail in the quarter. “Ja’Mee Asberry came up real big at the end,” Littell said. “She really struggled for three quarters, was 0-5 shooting the ball, and then really finished strong. In the past when she had a bad game or struggled for two or three quarters, that would be her whole game, (but) she

just continued to grind.” Outside of the friendly confines of Gallagher-Iba Arena, the Cowgirls had a tough time getting shots to fall, so they did everything they could to stay afloat. “That’s what you gotta do,” Littell said. “Play defense and keep rebounding, especially when you’re on the road, when the ball isn’t going in. Just don’t give up, just keep fighting and grinding it.” Sports.ed@ocolly.com

There’s times you just have to grind games out

The term “grind it out” was used four times in the postgame press conference. The Oklahoma State Cowgirls defeated the Kansas State Wildcats 69-55 on Monday night in Manhattan, Kansas. It was a gritty performance from an OSU team that had lost three straight games and struggled offensively early. OSU was held to only 44 points in the first three quarters. At one point, it was shooting only 30% from the field. “There’s times you just have to grind games out, especially on the road,” OSU coach Jim Littell said. “I thought it was pretty ugly for three quarters, but our kids stepped up and did a nice job in the fourth quarter.” In the fourth quarter, all the grinding OSU had done to gain a near 20-rebound advantage and to hold K-State to an identical 44 points finally paid off. The game was punctuated by a 15-0 OSU run that melted all of their shooting woes and frustrations away. Four Cowgirls scored in the stretch that iced the
