May 7, 2017
On behalf of the City Council and the residents of Irvine, we welcome you to the 13th U.S. Bank OC Marathon. The OC Marathon is an exciting event that promotes a healthy lifestyle while at the same time raising needed funds for charitable organizations in Orange County. Year after year, the U. S. Bank OC Marathon does an outstanding job in organizing this wonderful event for our community. Congratulations to the registrants and all the volunteers for your hard work and dedication in making this year’s marathon one of the best ever. Again, it is a pleasure to welcome everyone to Irvine and Orange County. Whether a runner, a rooter, a volunteer, or just a spectator, have a wonderful day here in Orange County‌and thank you for your support! Sincerely,
Donald P. Wagner Mayor
LETTER FROM THE RACE DIRECTOR On behalf of the U.S. Bank OC Marathon team, I want to welcome all of the runners and walkers to the 13th Annual U.S. Bank OC Marathon Running Festival here in beautiful Orange County, California. Started back in 2004 with a vision of supporting Orange County children’s charities, the marathon has grown to become a world-class running event in Southern California, drawing runners from 43 states and from countries as far away as Poland, Russia and the Czech Republic. Our event encourages community celebration, promotes a healthy lifestyle, creates awareness for participating charities and inspires kids to fitness. We continue to expand our Charity Program with 32 Official Charities in 2017 and a goal to exceed our previous year’s total of $550,000. Since 2004, the OC Marathon has helped our charity partners to raise over $4.5 million dollars to support their various missions. We have also made a commitment to support our own OC Marathon Foundation which is focused on creating impactful obesity prevention programs that promote better fitness and nutrition habits among children. This year, our Kids Run the OC program will have nearly 10,000 children from 136 Orange County schools registered to participate in our Kids Run the OC presented by Nutrilite “Final Mile”. This amazing children’s running event is one of the largest youth running events in the country and will be held on Saturday, May 6th at the OC Fair and Event Center. A special thank you to Nutrilite, Mother’s Market and Edward’s Life Sciences for their continued support of KROC. New for this year, we have moved the Wahoo’s OC 5K to Saturday at 5:00 PM from our usual Sunday morning slot. This move allows for the introduction of a brand new challenge and medal, the OC Combo CRUSH, where runners can do the 5K on Saturday and the half or full on Sunday morning. We expect over 1,300 runners will get the new medal in 2017. Also introduced for the 2017 event is the OC Marathon Corporate Challenge (OCMCC). The corporate challenge is designed to encourage participation in a fun event that promotes workplace wellness, advocating for a healthier lifestyle and building camaraderie. The OCMCC offers Orange County businesses, regardless of size, the extraordinary opportunity to add some excitement and team building going head-to-head in friendly competitions against other OC businesses of similar size. None of this would be possible without the generosity and support of our sponsors and volunteers that help our event take place. U.S. Bank has been the Title Sponsor of the U.S. Bank OC Marathon for four years and we are so proud to have them continue with their support. Wahoo’s Fish Tacos, simply the best fish tacos, is now in the eighth year as Title Sponsor of the 5K. Additional sponsors include KIA Motors, Erdinger Non-Alcoholic Beer, Travel Costa Mesa, HOKA ONE ONE, Massage Envy Spa, Gatorade Endurance, UPS, Manatt, Perfect Bar, Honey Stinger, Alta Dena (TruMoo), and our official host hotels, the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel and Spa and the Hilton Orange County/Costa Mesa. We also could not do any of this without this most special group of people, our volunteers. These amazing people, many that may not even run, start their day at zero-dark thirty, stand around for hours, offering water or assistance and always encouragement to people that may or may not say thank you. Please know that you are appreciated by all of these runners and all of us at the OC Marathon. Lastly, a very special thank you to the city staff, public safety departments of our four host cities, Newport Beach, Irvine, Santa Ana and Costa Mesa, as well as the County of Orange and the various other agencies that make this event possible. Our OC staff, Book That Event team and more than 2,500 volunteers and charities are dedicated to putting on an amazing event for all of you. We wish all of you the best of luck, we hope you will enjoy being a part of the event and we thank you for participating in the 2017 U.S. Bank OC Marathon Running Festival. Have fun and thank the volunteers.

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT - HOKA ONE ONE
Lightweight or Well-Cushioned? Why Not Both? HOKA ONE ONE’s innovative running shoes can offer something for every type of runner It was April 20, 2015, and something different was happening at the Boston Marathon. In each of the race’s four waves, runners of all stripes and speeds were wearing the Clifton, a HOKA ONE ONE model that had launched less than a year earlier. Its ultra-soft cushion underfoot was appealing to runners who would take four, five or six hours to cover 26.2 relentlessly hilly miles on pavement. But the Clifton wasn’t just on feet in the middle and back of the pack. In wave one, corral one, some of the fastest amateur runners in the world donned the well-cushioned shoe for its remarkable weight: as HOKAs went, these were light and nimble. Even HOKA professional runner Sage Canaday, standing on the elite start line and eyeing the sub-2:18 time needed to qualify for his third Olympic Trials Marathon, considered them light enough for one of his most important races of the year. “The cushion that the Clifton provides makes my legs and feet feel good, and the fact that it is light makes it ideal for high performance running in all conditions,” said Canaday. “The popularity of the Clifton is a testament to its innovative design.” In short, HOKA wasn’t just an ultrarunning brand anymore. With shoes cushioned enough for beginners and joggers, yet light enough for elite competitors, the brand was well on its way to empowering runners of all ambitions and speeds at this year’s OC Marathon to meet their running goals – and maybe even enjoy the ride. With its continued addition of elite road, trail, tri and track athletes, HOKA has increased its stable of shoes to include lightweight trainers, racing flats and track spikes alongside its original “max-cushion” models, with plenty of options in between. The Clayton and Tracer, among other models, continue to refine the extraordinary weight-to-cushion ratio that has brought HOKA to the feet of more and more runners since its founding. “HOKA might be synonymous with maximal cushion, but our shoes also happen to be some of the best lightweight performance models on the market, all with unique qualities designed to help everyone run easier, farther and/or faster,” said Gretchen Weimer, Vice President of Product at HOKA. “Our shoes truly offer something for every runner and walker.”
The Simply Stable Arahi The Arahi is the ideal shoe for runners who are looking for a light and fast shoe with pronation support. It’s extremely versatile for daily runs or long distance days. Featuring the same HOKA cushioning you’ve grown to love, plus our new J-Frame technology, this lightweight, responsive, nimble shoe is both supportive and comfortable.

The following is a list of the must-haves: • Lawn and patio decorations • Encouraging signs, banner and balloons • Fun radio station and upbeat music • CDs, Jill FM, the Sound, K-EARTH, JACK FM and K-WAVE. • Musical instruments • Drums, harmonicas, bagpipes, guitars, saxophones and trumpets. • Noisemakers and party favors • Blow horns, kazoos, whistles, clappers and cowbells. • Create a Theme: • For example, celebrate with an ‘80s theme or pretend you’re a runner crossing your own mini finish line. You could even dress up as a cheerleader. GIVE THE GIFT OF A HEALTHY CHILDHOOD Childhood malnutrition can have lasting effects, but it’s preventable with proper nutrition. The Nutrilite™ Power of 5 Campaign is helping thousands of children age 5 and younger get the nutrients they need every day.

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT - NUTRILITE
Nutrilite - Presenting Sponsor of Kids Run the OC Funds Raised Support the Power of 5 Campaign Nutrilite™ is a proud sponsor of the “Kids Run the OC” race that has become a great tradition in the community. Funds raised go to support the Nutrilite™ Power of 5 Campaign to fight global childhood malnutrition. It is the goal of the Nutrilite™ Power of 5 Campaign to work with established nutrition or healthfocused programs around the globe to reach 500,000 malnourished children in 20 countries by the end of 2019. Currently, the Nutrilite™ Power of 5 Campaign works with partners in 15 countries. More than 3 million children 5 years of age and under die each year as a result of childhood malnutrition, and more than 160 million children under 5 are stunted and are often challenged with health and development problems for the rest of their lives. Although malnutrition is a widespread and growing problem, it is preventable and, as a leader in nutrition, Amway is in an ideal position to help. Our Nutrilite scientists developed a micronutrient supplement, Nutrilite Little Bits, that provides 15 essential vitamins and nutrients to children ages 6 months to 5 years old. When given with food once daily, Nutrilite™ Little Bits can help a child’s brain and body develop properly so they can survive, thrive and achieve their full potential. We launched the Nutrilite™ Power of 5 Campaign to raise global awareness of childhood malnutrition as we work with Amway Business Owners, employees and the public to find a global solution to this issue. Join us today! Simply go to powerof5.nutrilite.com to find out how.
