Troy Moran

On Saturday, April 27, 2024, a light in the close-knit community of Hart was lost as Hart High School Principal Troy Moran passed away unexpectedly.

Troy’s impact on not only Hart, but the five other West Michigan school districts he served in was no small thing. Troy carried with him the unique ability to change the full momentum of a student or coworker’s day, simply with a smile and a few kind words.

Though Troy has moved on from this world, his light still remains in those he interacted with during his far too short time on Earth. His legacy lives on through his daughters, Elle and Reagan, as well as the countless other people he encountered.

Whether it was starting up the “Ride With Pride” initiative at Hart or his unwavering support of the Pirates’ athletic progams, Troy was constantly finding new and innovative ways to make a difference.

Troy was best known for saying “Don’t count the days, make the days count,” something we hope all the graduates honored in this section will continue to do as they take their next steps in life.

The ‘Leaving their Mark’ section is dedicated to Troy.

Senior Athletic All Stars By: Brendan Samuels The Oceana Echo Sports Editor

Each year there are a plethora of impressive athletes that graduate from the five high schools in Oceana County.

This year’s class is chocked full of 12 sport athletes that have competed at the highest level for the majority of their high school career. In order to make sure we feature all of these deserving athletes, we’ve allotted three slots per sport

Football

and arranged them similar to the way All-Star teams are selected.

First team honorees are the cream of the crop. Even if these athletes were surrounded by other skilled individuals, they stood out from the crowd. If you look on the field, court, mat or track, these are the kids that make you say “wow.”

Second team honorees are just as skilled as the first team athletes, but they may not get the same recognition in terms of accolades and statistics.

Honorable Mention (H.M.) athletes

are deserving of being recognized for what they’ve done over the course of four years. These athletes are impressive individuals and the fact that they aren’t higher on the list isn’t a hit to them at all.

In fact, the vast majority of these athletes are only in the H.M. category because there are so many equally impressive athletes around them.

The class of 2024 has been a fun one to watch compete and they’ve no doubt left their mark on their respective teams.

The majority of well-paying jobs in West Michigan will require some form of education beyond high school. We encourage younger students and families to explore the variety of paths available for post-secondary learning including certificate programs, skilled trades, training, apprenticeship programs and associates and bachelors degrees.
