INTRODUCTION The 2022-23 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) season was full of impressive achievements and highlights. Across all 26 member institutions, over 7000 student-athletes competed in the OCAA this past season across 15 varsity sport seasons and championships. The accomplishments of the OCAA spanned outside of the province as well with the members winning 16 national medals (6 gold, 4 silver, 6 bronze). Additionally, the OCAA member institutions hosted 3 national championships, providing the best championship experiences Canada has to offer to hundreds of studentathletes from across the country. The impact of the Ontario Collegiate Recreation (OCR) Committee in 2022-23 needs to be recognized, with over 4000 recreational studentathletes participating in over 50 sport events throughout the year. This included the highly anticipated introduction of a new REC CUP sport, outdoor cricket.

Outside of direct sport competition proved to be equally as impactful. OCAA studentathletes achieved in the classroom, boasting an impressive 93% academic eligibility across all sports. 92 OCAA student-athletes also earned CCAA All-Canadian honors, representing their success in sport and in the classroom. As a conference, the OCAA continues to make strides in the area of equity, diversity and inclusion. One such step was the adoption of a new mandatory anti-racism training program for all coaches and athletic personnel across the conference. The OCAA has also partnered with the University of Toronto IDEAS Research Lab on a multi-year, comprehensive anti-racism research study designed to learn more about the OCAA from an EDI lens. The success of this past season is in large part due to the incredible contributions of essential volunteers that are the lifeblood of the OCAA. A special thanks to the Senior Leadership Council, Board of Directors, Standing Committees and Championship Hosts. Thanks also to the incredible effort of the OCAA Office staff. Finally, thank you to all of the partners that support the OCAA, especially the Government of Ontario, Ministry of Tourism Culture and Sport, for their financial contributions and overall support towards the advancement of college sports in this province. As another chapter comes to a close in the over 50 years of OCAA history, there is plenty to look forward to towards 2023-24 and beyond.

PROJECTED STRATEGIC ACTIONS & OUTCOMES INNOVATE. ENGAGE. ADVANCE. This is how a highly anticipated 2023-24 OCAA season will be guided. Beyond the regular day-to-day activities, the OCAA will elevate the OCAA brand and marketing potential, while continue to ensure the foundation can support this growth. Deliberate and positive steps will be taken towards a more equitable and inclusive environment for all participants, supporting greater student-athlete success. This season’s objectives are highlighted by some exciting and truly impactful initiatives: This season will mark the beginning of a brand new OCAA LIVE streaming platform, which will allow OCAA participants and fans to connect with incredible competition better than before. Fans should expect an improved viewing experience of every basketball and volleyball game; while also accessing multiple other sporting events including soccer, baseball, softball, rugby and more. The OCAA can only continue to grow if its foundation is well supported. Significant foundational elements such as the governance structure, operational processes and the policies and procedures that drive the association will be constantly reviewed and improved with a goal of creating efficiencies and improving support for the membership.

ANTI-RACISM RESEARCH PROJECT The OCAA, in partnership with the University of Toronto IDEAS Research Lab, are conducting a comprehensive anti-racism research project. The goal is to learn more about the OCAA and its participants through a racial lens, and how to improve in the area of equity, diversity and inclusion. Over 1000 participants have taken part in surveys, with hundreds being involved in focus group discussions. The final project is set to be completed in 2024.

STUDENT-ATHLETE SUCCESS The OCAA and the Coaches Association of Ontario (CAO) are finding new ways to support student-athletes that are transitioning away from participation but want to maintain their involvement in sport. The OCAA Coach Mentor Program supports up to twenty mentormentee pairs throughout the OCAA membership. This program provides financial support, expert input, training opportunities and general coach development guidance for these participants.

OCAA HALL OF FAME The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Hall of Fame is dedicated to the recognition of extraordinary contributions and accomplishments within collegiate sports in Ontario. Honoured members include student-athletes, coaches and builders of the association. This season, 32 new members were recognized in the 10th OCAA Hall of Fame ceremony, held at the St. Clair College Centre for the Arts in Windsor, Ont., on Monday, May 1. The OCAA Hall of Fame was established in 2003. Including this year's induction, membership has expanded to 452 individuals. This season’s induction ceremony was the first since 2019, with the 2021 induction class cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The OCAA Hall of Fame expanded its class size for 2023 and will do so again in 2025.
