The following prints and drawings represent a selection of works from Germany from the beginnings of Expressionism until works of the Neue Sachlichkeit.
The early period is characterized by the work of Edvard Munch, who shot to fame and notoriety as a result of his exhibitions in Germany in the 1890’s. Munch’s Madonna in particular, scandalised the German public and contributed to the influx of crowds to the exhibitions that the artist organised around Germany.
