CHANGING LIVES THROUGH GOLF IN NORTHERN OHIO

Who We Serve:

Working on behalf of 500+ PGA Professionals & Associates, we support:

Veterans through PGA HOPE and Play Days

Juniors & student-athletes through Clubs Fore Kids and youth programs

Communities & nonprofits through grants and partnerships

Mission Statement:

The Northern Ohio PGA Section Foundation is a 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. It is a non-profit organization established to support the Northern Ohio community, with a focus on junior golf, education and scholarships, and charities in the area.

Why This Work Matters

Receiving the financial assistance from the NOPGA has been life changing. It has allowed me to advance my golf career into college! I am so thankful for the tournaments I was able to play in and the friendships I made along the way.

-Parent of a Child Receiving Junior Tour Financial Assistance

I am very grateful that PGA HOPE is available to help bring Veterans together, not just to work on their golf skills but to help them reconnect and move forward with life after the military.

-Veteran who graduated from PGA HOPE: Medina

My students' selfconfidence went through the roof when my students received their new clubs. None of them had ever received their own NEW set of clubs, and it was like Christmas Day when they received them in the early summer.

CLUBS FORE KIDS

For many students, Clubs Fore Kids is the moment golf becomes possible.

OPPORTUNITIES CREATED

REMOVING BARRIERS TO PARTICIPATION THROUGH EQUIPMENT AND OPPORTUNITY

MORE THAN CLUBS

For many young golfers across Northern Ohio, access to the game begins with one simple but powerful thing: having the right equipment in their hands.

Through Clubs Fore Kids, the Northern Ohio PGA Section Foundation partners with schools and coaches to remove financial barriers and ensure studentathletes have the tools they need to participate, improve, and belong. In 2025, this support reached schools and communities

where golf programs were newly formed, rebuilt, or sustained because of the availability of quality clubs. What follows is the impact told directly by the coaches who see it every day - increased confidence and excitement around team golf, expanded participation and opportunities that otherwise

would not exist. From first-ever teams to championship runs, Clubs Fore Kids is helping young golfers step onto the course with pride, purpose, and possibility. In addition to schools, clubs were provided to 18 individual juniors with financial need.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN A CLUBS FORE KIDS SET?

More than just clubs, each set provides young golfers with the tools, access, and guidance to get started and keep going.

Every Clubs Fore Kids set includes:

Age-appropriate golf clubs and stand bag

Youth on Course membership for affordable rounds

Golf balls and tees

Golf bag, bag tag, and towel

Practice manual to support skill development

For many participants, this represents their first opportunity to truly belong in the game.

The Impact of Clubs Fore Kids

What are the Coaches Saying?

Fairview High School

The clubs tremendously helped in the physical part of the game but it also helped in the mental side. Golf is an expensive sport and when a freshman comes into high school with clubs that are twice as old as they are, it can make it a mental challenge to compete against his/her peers.

Warren G. Harding

We competed in a partial season and 3 tournaments! We have not been a team for many years. Very excited for the growth of the program. The clubs helped exponentially! Don’t think we would have a program without the clubs!

Parkway High School

Getting properly fitted clubs into the hands of these young golfers has created excitement for them as they now show up to the course carrying a new bag with properly fitting modern golf clubs. Having multiple sets of clubs to "loan" allows these golfers the opportunity to continue practicing with properly sized equipment

Van Buren High School

The clubs were used by JV players, however our Varsity team finished as Sectional Champs, 4th as NW District qualifying for the Div 2 OHSAA Girls Golf State Championship and finished 6th of 12 teams! It really gave the girls a sense of importance and aided confidence.

Cardinal High School

The clubs allowed our new golfers to play golf without the financial burden of attaining high quality equipment. The clubs were of a higher quality than the girls would have had access to The grant helped reduce the stress and risk to the girls of trying something brand new.

Northwest High School

The clubs were so helpful for our team. Seeing that 2/3 or more of the 15 players were all new to golf, having 6 sets of new clubs enabled several players to get to participate and play. They had confidence and showed courage as they were paired up with playing partners in our matches.

Louisville High School

The clubs helped our team very much All three sets were used and the girls learned with them We were runners-up in the Tri-County League (South Division) this year!

Western Reserve H.S.

The clubs not only provided opportunities for some kids but also generated excitement around the team. I loved the whole team clinic and coaches clinic.

Developing the Next Generation of Leaders

Katherine Foerg Wrapped up PGA WORKS Fellowship

My time as the PGA WORKS Fellow with the Northern Ohio PGA has been an incredibly meaningful chapter in my journey within the game of golf. From the first junior event of the season to our final Fall tournaments, every day reminded me of why I fell in love with the game in the first place.

Working with the Junior Tour and Drive, Chip & Putt gave me the opportunity to connect with so many of our young players and families. Seeing their growth, excitement, and love for golf each event was something truly special. One of my favorite memories from the year was reuniting with so many familiar faces at the Junior Ohio Cup — the hugs, smiles, and pure joy shared that weekend perfectly captured what makes the Northern Ohio PGA community so special. Those moments reaffirmed the impact of creating positive, welcoming experiences for juniors as they grow in the game we all love.

Beyond junior golf, I was also grateful to be involved in Foundation initiatives that reflect the PGA’s mission of inclusion and connection. Whether helping at PGA HOPE play days, Clubs Fore Kids clinics, or the Hope Cup, each event allowed me to witness the power of golf to bring people together. Building relationships with veterans, kids, and community partners deepened my appreciation for how the game can truly change lives.

Katherine is now the Development Coordinator for the First Tee of Greater Philadelphia where she is helping to give opportunities to the next generation of golfers.

Moments that Matter at Firestone

Inspiration

, Teamwork, and Unforgettable Moments for Junior Golfers Across

Northern Ohio

The 5th annual Firestone Junior Cup brought junior golfers from across Northern Ohio to Firestone Country Club for a day focused on learning, camaraderie, and fun. Players participated in a clinic with Meg GlassStem, PGA, and a special Q&A with PGA TOUR Champions player Paul Stankowski, gaining insight and inspiration from leaders in the game.

When weather shortened play, the event shifted to a thrilling team shootout on the 18th hole, creating an unforgettable shared moment for all eight teams. Jimmy Beers Golf captured the title for the third consecutive year, with Team Tanglewood finishing as runner-up.

PGA HOPE HELPING OUR PATRIOTS EVERYWHERE

PGA HOPE Northern Ohio, a flagship program of the Northern Ohio PGA Section Foundation, introduces golf to military veterans as a form of therapy and rehabilitation helping enhance their physical, emotional, and social well-being.

Through free instruction, clinics, and course access, PGA HOPE Northern Ohio creates welcoming environments where veterans build connection, confidence, and community through the game of golf.

In 2025, the program expanded to 21 PGA HOPE locations across Northern Ohio, serving more than 320 veterans. These programs are led by PGA Professionals and Associates who are trained in adaptive golf and committed to using the game as a tool for healing and long-term impact.

PGA HOPE Northern Ohio is made possible through the leadership of local PGA Professionals, community partners, and donors who believe in the power of golf to change lives.

As a veteran, it meant more than I can put into words to have a space that was welcoming, uplifting, and rooted in purpose.

The atmosphere you’ve created at Windmill Lakes, and the community it supports, gave me and my fellow veterans a chance to focus on something positive, something healing. For two hours a week, it wasn’t about the past— it was about swinging a club, learning something new, and laughing with people who understood.

PGA HOPE DAY NAMED IN STATE OF OHIO

CELEBRATION OF SERVICE, HEALING, AND CONNECTION

Led by PGA Professionals

Seventeen PGA and LPGA Professionals served as team captains, each guiding four veterans from their PGA HOPE programs a reflection of the year-round instruction, mentorship, and relationships built at facilities across Northern Ohio. The fivesome played a nine-hole fiveperson scramble in a day of celebration.

A Moment on the Course

An eagle on the final hole sealed victory for Kevin

Sullivan, PGA (Quail Hollow CC) and his PGA HOPE: Mentor team, capturing the overall title in the 3rd Northern Ohio PGA HOPE Cup and providing a memorable finish to an already meaningful day. This marks the second time that Sullivan’s team has won the HOPE Cup.

Reunited after 46 Years

After 46 years apart, U S Navy veterans and Youngstown natives David Boos and Don Bell were reunited through PGA HOPE former shipmates who served together aboard the USS Independence in the late 1970s, brought back together by the game of golf and a shared commitment to healing and connection

More Than a Day

PGA HOPE Day represents a meaningful milestone for veterans, PGA Professionals, and the Northern Ohio golf community. Officially recognized by the State of Ohio, the day honors the leadership of PGA Professionals who use golf as a pathway to healing, connection, and overall well-being for those who have served our country.

Celebrated alongside the PGA HOPE Cup at Avon Oaks Country Club, the day brought together veterans from PGA HOPE programs across the region and the PGA and LPGA Professionals who guided them through instruction and mentorship at their home facilities throughout the year. The event created space not only for competition, but for reflection, camaraderie, and shared experience reinforcing the sense of belonging that defines PGA HOPE.

PGA HOPE Day reflects a year-round commitment to serving veterans, ensuring they feel supported, valued, and connected long after the final putt drops.

A New Role. A Familar Mission

Jason Strejcek, PGA HOPE Ambassador

A Veteran Chosen to Lead

Jason Strejcek has been named the Northern Ohio PGA Section’s newest PGA HOPE Ambassador a role reserved for veterans who lead by example and embody the mission of Helping Our Patriots Everywhere. As an ambassador, Jason represents veterans across the region, using his voice and lived experience to welcome, support, and stand alongside fellow service members on their PGA HOPE journey.

“There are too many people who have been taught that if you show emotion or need to talk to somebody, you’re weak, ” Jason says. “That is just not the case. ”

The Service That Shaped Him

Jason’s path to leadership began long before golf. Following the attacks of September 11, shock turned into resolve. “Shock turned to anger, ” he recalls. “And I needed to think about doing something about it. ”

He left college and enlisted, serving eight years as a U.S. Navy corpsman and completing two deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. During those deployments, Jason experienced moments that would stay with him forever not only the intensity of combat, but the weight of responsibility that comes with caring for others in impossible circumstances.

“My PTSD is not really the things that I did, ” Jason says quietly. “It’s the people I couldn’t save. ”

Jason’s leadership reminds us that healing often begins with being heard.

Northern Ohio Sends First Team to the Secretary’s Cup

Carmel Country Club | Charlotte, NC

For four Veterans from Northern Ohio, the PGA HOPE Secretary’s Cup was more than a golf tournament it was a meaningful step forward in their healing journey.

PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) uses golf to support Veterans’ mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing. It’s not about scores or competition. It’s about creating space for connection, confidence, and calm after service.

At this year’s Secretary’s Cup at Carmel Country Club in Charlotte, Navy Veterans Jason Strejcek and Jennifer Baun joined Army brothers Trip and Paul Heaverly, alongside PGA Master Professional Barry Friedman, to proudly represent Northern Ohio. Chosen from more than 50 applicants nationwide, these four Veterans earned the opportunity to compete at one of PGA HOPE’s most meaningful events.

Jennifer, who began playing golf just a year ago, has already inspired dozens of women Veterans across Ohio to try PGA HOPE, stating:

“There’s a place for every Veteran here.”

The week was filled with laughter, reflection, and moments of pride including an escort to the course and a formal announcement of each Veteran’s name and branch of service. As Marine Corps Veteran Chris Nowak put it, “This isn’t about golf. It’s about healing. ”

The Secretary’s Cup created moments that extended well beyond the competition moments of connection, pride, and reflection As Veterans shared stories, supported one another, and stood together representing their branches of service, the experience highlighted how the game of golf can foster healing, renewed purpose, and a strong sense of belonging.

How Has Golf Helped their Mental and Physical Well-Beings?

For many veterans, the hardest battles begin after they come home. On the golf course, they find space to breathe, heal, and reconnect with themselves, with others who understand, and with a sense of calm that’s often hard to find in everyday life. Through shared rounds and simple moments, golf becomes a pathway to renewed confidence, connection, and hope.

Golf is a game that can be played individually and in teams meaning, it gave me the opportunity to challenge myself and be alone on a course or be out with others that just want to play. Both are cathartic in different ways. Mentally I can become centered just walking or being on a course. Physically, it provided variety to be active and stay healthy. There is not much sweeter that being out on a hole convincing yourself of a decision and executing it to see the results for yourself or teammates.

It gives me space. Plus I get to hit something hard without getting into trouble!! Dan Dauk gave me a great, simple trick to help hit my driver better. And spending time on the course with other veterans that are eager to learn is a refreshing experience. This program is super effective and impactful, and I am really thankful the PGA is so supportive of the program.

The moment you strike the golf ball you no longer have control of what it does and the only thing you can do is prepare yourself for the next shot. There's no reason to dwell on the last shot or spend the mental energy on being upset about a bad bounce, the best thing to do is to walk to your ball and analyze the situation at hand and plan your course of action. Translating that into everyday life helps me to remember to stay in the present, address things as they arise, and let go of things that I cannot control.

Mentally, golf has been a crucial tool in managing my PTSD. The time spent on the course allows my mind to reset, giving me a break from the recurring thoughts of my experiences in Iraq and the friends I lost. The game demands focus, patience, and strategy, which helps shift my attention away from past trauma and onto the present moment. Programs like PGA HOPE have further supported my journey, helping me improve not just my swing but also my overall approach to the game and life.

Investing in Futures Through Golf

Each year, the Northern Ohio PGA Section Foundation’s Scholarship Program celebrates the power of golf to open doors beyond the course. Scholarship Day brings together PGA Professionals, donors, families, and students to recognize academic excellence, leadership, and character— values that define both the game and the mission of the Foundation.

Since launching its $10,000 scholarship program in 2021, the Foundation has proudly awarded scholarships annually to deserving junior golfers pursuing higher education. With strong applicant pools each year, the Scholarship Committee continues to face the rewarding challenge of selecting recipients whose stories reflect perseverance, service, and ambition.

Former recipients are now progressing through college and entering fields such as engineering, medicine, business, and education while continuing to carry forward the lessons learned through golf. Today, the NOPGA Section Foundation has awarded nearly $130,000 in scholarships in the past 5 years.

Ava Furiga Scholarship Recipient | Class of 2025

For Ava Furiga, golf has been a source of strength, focus, and healing A three-year varsity golfer and team captain at Avon High School, Ava learned resilience through the game lessons that carried her through academic excellence and personal loss After the passing of her mother, Ava leaned on golf’s steady rhythm to push forward with purpose and resolve

“I am so honored to be receiving the NOPGA Foundation Scholarship. Golf has taught me patience and focus, skills that I will carry with me into my future career in medicine. I’m especially proud of myself for continuing to strive for excellence, even after the loss of my mom. ”

Vinh Lai Scholarship Recipient | Class of 2025

Vinh Lai’s journey reflects the values at the heart of the Northern Ohio PGA Section Foundation hard work, leadership, and gratitude. A four-year varsity golfer who balanced elite academics with athletics, Vinh credits golf with shaping far more than his swing He was involved in leadership positions in the Asian American Pacific Islander Club and the school newspaper as well as the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society

Through the NOPGA Junior Tour and First Tee, he found mentorship, discipline, and lifelong relationships that helped guide him toward excellence both in and out of the classroom Graduating from St. Edward High School with a 4.65 GPA, Vinh is attending The Ohio State University to pursue aerospace engineering

“NOPGA has given me much more than being able to hit a golf ball—it has given me lifelong relationships, valuable life skills, and steadfast determination. In the years ahead, I hope to inspire others through the same values that NOPGA and the game of golf have given me. ”

Northern Ohio Captures Third Junior Ohio Cup Matches

Team Goes 3-0 in First Three Years of the Matches

Events like the Junior Ohio Cup shape leaders long before adulthood.

At the 3rd Annual Junior Ohio Cup at Brookside Country Club, weather conditions deteriorated from uncomfortable to unplayable. Rain, wind, cold temperatures, and soaked fairways forced tournament officials to shorten Sunday’s Singles Matches to nine holes. What couldn’t be shortened, however, was the determination of the 32 junior golfers who had earned their way into one of the most meaningful events of the season.

Despite the conditions, the Northern Ohio PGA junior team delivered a dominant performance, defeating the Southern Ohio PGA 17–7 to claim its third consecutive Junior Ohio Cup victory. Entering Sunday with a 6–2 lead after Fourball matches, Northern Ohio sealed the win by capturing nine of the 16 Singles matches—showcasing composure, teamwork, and competitive grit in the face of adversity.

This event is different by design. Unlike traditional tournaments, the Junior Ohio Cup is earned, not entered. Only 16 juniors qualify each year based on season-long performance, making participation itself a milestone. For these young athletes, it is their version of the Ryder Cup

team golf, pride, and camaraderie layered on top of elite competition.

Several players exemplified that spirit. Annelise Stencel of Akron completed her Junior Ohio Cup career undefeated, finishing 6-00 across three appearances. Dexter James of Hudson delivered one of the weekend’s defining moments with a dramatic holeout for eagle, igniting cheers through the storm. On the girls’ side, Julia Gulla, Kayla Knaze, Korrine Knaze, Elena Varga, and Stencel all went undefeated, while James and Dominic Castelluccio led the boys with perfect weekends.

Beyond the scorecard, the weekend left a lasting impression. Players spoke openly about the joy of representing their Section, competing alongside friends, and embracing conditions that tested both skill and character. Parents and coaches echoed that sentiment remarking on how rare and meaningful it is for juniors to experience true team competition at this level.

For donors and supporters, the Junior Ohio Cup represents more than a trophy. It reflects the Northern Ohio PGA Section Foundation’s commitment to developing young people through golf teaching resilience, sportsmanship, and teamwork while creating memories that last far beyond a single weekend.

Rain may have defined the forecast, but determination, opportunity, and pride defined the outcome.

104 Ohio Open Pro-Am

Held prior to the Ohio Open, the 104th Ohio Open Pro-Am welcomed PGA Professionals and amateurs to Firestone Country Club as the championship returned to the iconic venue for the first time in 62 years. The Pro-Am set the tone for a memorable week, blending competition, camaraderie, and support for the Northern Ohio PGA Section Foundation. As NOPGA Executive Director David Griffith noted, “The Ohio Open Pro-Am is a special opportunity to bring people together at Firestone while supporting our Foundation and celebrating the rich history of this championship. ”

Smucker’s Birdies & Charity

72 Professionals Raise $160,000+ for Foundation

Birdies & Charity is one of the Northern Ohio PGA Foundation’s most meaningful traditions, bringing PGA Professionals together to give back through the game they love. In 2025, nearly 70 professionals dedicated their day off to raise more than $140,000, continuing the event’s strong legacy of impact across Northeast Ohio. As Quail Hollow Country Club Director of Player Development Kevin Sullivan, PGA, shared, “I play in Birdies & Charity because I believe in the Northern Ohio PGA Foundation and its mission. ”

Invited Charity Classic

Firestone Country Club Foundation Receives $29,000 from Auction

The Northern Ohio PGA Section Foundation was selected as one of three charities for the Invited Charity Classic, hosted at Firestone Country Club’s South Course in October. The event brought players from around the country together for a day of golf with proceeds split between the NOPGA Section Foundation, Northern Ohio Golf Charities, and Invited Foundation. As Foundation Director Danielle Monas shared, “We’re grateful to be included alongside incredible partners and for the opportunity to highlight how golf can create impact beyond the course. ”

David Griffith Northern Ohio PGA Executive Director

Impact is not created in a single day or a single program It is built steadily through trust, commitment, and people who believe that golf can do more than entertain. It can serve, heal, and open doors.

The Northern Ohio PGA Section Foundation exists to support that belief. Working on behalf of PGA Professionals across our Section, the Foundation invests in programs that extend the game’s reach to veterans, juniors, and communities who benefit most when opportunity is made accessible. The stories and results throughout this report reflect a year of purposeful action and thoughtful growth

What stands out to me most is not just what we accomplished, but how it was accomplished. PGA Professionals stepped forward as leaders and mentors Veterans showed courage in returning, reconnecting, and supporting one another Donors and partners placed their trust in the Foundation to steward resources responsibly and with intention. That shared commitment is what gives our work its credibility and its power

As our programs continue to grow, so does our responsibility. The Foundation is committed to delivering impact that is meaningful, measurable, and lasting ensuring that access to the game leads to connection, confidence, and community Thank you for believing in the power of golf to change lives.
