Darren Gardner COO
Darren joined in February 2020, bringing with him more than 20 years of multi-industry, multi-market experience. Darren oversees the operations of Nido’s expanding portfolio of high-quality accommodation across the UK and Europe.
Darren’s extensive professional background ranges from retail investment and management, telecommunications, private equity, venture capital and, more recently, PBSA. Prior to joining Nido, Darren developed 4,000 beds and operated 16,000 beds across 117 assets, managed by two different brands.
Tony Allen Operations Director
Tony has nearly three decades of experience working in the PBSA sector, having mobilised and operated portfolios of up to 25,000 beds across the world.
Before joining Nido, Tony was Operations Director at GSA, where he oversaw global operations for new and existing markets across a number of different territories and brands, including The Student Housing Company and Uninest Student Residences.
Suraiya Comunello CMO
Suraiya leads across all marketing and PR activities and has successfully established Nido as a globally recognised brand in the PBSA sector.
Suraiya has more than a decade of experience in the university and PBSA sectors. Prior to joining Nido in 2018, Suraiya was Marketing Director at Hines, where she established the firm’s brand Aparto in Ireland and the UK, and also worked at The Student Housing Company, successfully launching the company’s platform in new markets while maintaining the brand in the UK.
Juliana Petrikova Head of European Operations
With 10 years experience in the PBSA sector, Juliana has mobilised and operated hundreds of beds across the UK, Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Portugal and is committed to providing the best student experience.
Juliana has worked across a variety of functions including operational and systems support across European territories giving her unique insight into the PBSA sector.
Nido’s highly experienced management team have built a brand with an international mindset. Their combined experience includes the successful delivery and management of over 150,000 PBSA beds globally.

The place felt like a 7 stars hotel ! Absolutely fantastic. Very comfortable and I had no complains at all. The cleanliness was spot on, loads of facilities and entertainment. Common rooms to study and ping pong tables & billiards. The gym is open for 24 hours which is fantastic. The design and decoration instantly improves your mood and I had the best stay ever during the 8 months stay. I will definitely miss this place a lot. The receptionists Leigh, Caroline and Max were very friendly & very polite. i would rate it 10 stars.

Highly recommended residence with a good location. I have been lucky enough to stay for a few months for studies, and the experience could not have been better. From the first moment I have felt at home. The attention of the whole team is fantastic! Alex at the front desk is very professional and helpful! There is no problem that they cannot solve. High quality acommodation, nothing like I could imagine when I was in college. My daughter has had an excellent experience this year. Super folks running the show, there’s nothing too big or small for them to help with. We feel she’s very safe there, even so far from home in a new city. You get what you pay for it seems. A+ Nido
