WE ARE NIDO. We are Nido Student, a private accommodation provider for students attending any third level college or university. We offer ensuite rooms in shared flats, or self-contained studio rooms, all with access to a common room, study room and shared laundry. There is no lottery to apply for accommodation at Nido, students can simply choose their room online, complete the paperwork and their room is secured. Super-fast WiFi and all bills are included in the rent, plus we have a flexible cancellation policy. The residence team are available from 9:00am-5:30pm and there is overnight security in place. We make it as easy and stress-free as possible to book with us and live with us. We aim to provide the best student experience and put the wellbeing of our students first.

WHERE WE ARE Curraheen Point is located in a safe and quiet residential area where students can study in peace and can easily get to class. We are located a 15 minute walk from both University College Cork and Munster Technological University. We are also less than 10 minutes’ walk from Cork University Hospital and the Mardyke Arena, and are serviced by the 220, 208 and 205 bus. We’re also just 5 minutes from Tesco Express for groceries and 5 minutes from our local pharmacy and coffee shop. Plus, we’re a 15 minute walk to Wilton Shopping Centre. SAFETY AND SECURITY The physical and mental wellbeing of our students is always our top priority. Curraheen Point has a number of specific safety features to keep our residents safe including: We are a gated community with access via a fob or mobile key, ensuring only residents and staff teams can enter the site without signing in. 24/7 CCTV cameras and security patrols during the night. Mobile keys and physical keys issued to students to minimise the chances of being locked out. Curraheen Point is in an area covered by both the community watch and Residents’ Association. Our dedicated residence team are on-site each day between 9:00 and 5:30pm, plus we have resident assistants and security on call during the night in case of emergency.

Michelle O Connell General Manager

Michelle holds a master’s degree from Dublin Technological University and a bachelor’s degree from University College Cork. She has years of experience having started her career in the sector as Assistant Manager for UCC Campus Accommodation back in 2018; having previously worked as the operations coordinator for a construction and maintenance firm. Michelle’s role as General Manager is to ensure the smooth running of the residence, with priority for the safety, security and wellbeing of all residents.

Róisín Phelan

Assistant Manager Róisín Phelan is a graduate of the University of Limerick and as the Assistant Manager, acts as the first point of contact for all students. Here to help with anything from maintenance requests to booking the study room, to organising events for the Curraheen Point community. Róisín also helps get students who are new to the city settled with the best recommendations for coffee shops, restaurants or things to do in the local area.

WHAT ARE THE ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS AT CURRAHEEN POINT?

ENSUITE ROOM

We think a lot about the design of each room. Everything from maximising space with smart storage or making sure there are plugs near the mirrors, each room is carefully and thoughtfully designed for student life. Students can choose between an ensuite room in a shared apartment, or an ensuite studio room with a private kitchenette.

Ensuite room in a shared flat Our Ensuite Apartments allow students to enjoy their own bedroom and ensuite bathroom while still getting the atmosphere of a shared living room and kitchen with between 4-7 other people. They can select from a range of room sizes and floors throughout the residence to create their perfect home. Compact comfy double bed

Self-contained Studio Room Our Studio rooms are ideal if a student likes to have their own space, kept just the way they like it. They can still use all of our common spaces & attend all events so making friends won’t be a problem either, they get the best of both worlds. Compact comfy double bed

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE RENT? We try to make things as easy as possible for the students who live with us, that includes wrapping everything into one easy monthly cost, so all they have to worry about is studying.

All bills (that’s electricity and gas) Super-fast WiFi (with up to 6 devices and speeds of up to 200MBPS) Rubbish collection and recycling services (refuse, glass, usual recycling) Contents Insurance (provided by Endsleigh Insurance)

What’s not included? Laundry – although there are laundry services at Curraheen Point these are charged per wash and per dry. There are industrial sized washing machines meaning you can put a big wash on in one go. The ‘Circuit Laundry’ helps too as you can see when the machines are free and receive alerts when your washing is done.

WHY NIDO? All students welcome All third level students are welcome at Curraheen Point, Nido is not designated to any one specific third level provider so we get a good mix of students from all the major colleges and Universities in the city. We can also try to match students up with other students of the same institution if they prefer.

No lottery and a flexible cancellation policy Unlike some providers in the city, we do not hold a lottery for our rooms, simply make a booking via our website online, return the licence and the room is booked. This means students can focus on their academic studies and enjoy their summer rather than worrying about securing a place. We also understand that students might have applied to several institutions and might be unsure where they’ll attend. Therefore, at the time of writing, Nido offers free cancellation before the 18th of August 2021 (subject to change in-line with CAO results, see our website for updates.)

Social and study spaces Curraheen Point is home to over 140 students each year, and is made up of two parallel buildings with a central courtyard for those few sunny days. It also includes a shared casual study space and reception, with a TV lounge including a Smart TV and sound bar. There is a dedicated study room with writable walls plus HDMI connections to the TV which can be booked for group presentations or individual study time. Our brilliant residence team run events, mixers and fortnightly celebrity naming quiz, famous amongst the residents!

HOW WE’VE RESPONDED TO THE PANDEMIC Nido acted quickly to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our residents, both mentally and physically, despite these unprecedented times. Here are some of the ways we’re protecting our residents and keeping them up to date: ✓ We provide regular updates on protocol and government guidance to ensure they are always up to date. ✓ We provide hand sanitiser in communal areas and all entrances and exits to the building. ✓ We were the first in the sector to develop a full virtual events programme that has since won awards and is focused on wellbeing both physically and mentally. ✓ Students will see us more often in high traffic communal areas, cleaning and sanitising high touch items. Think door handles, tabletops, lift buttons, exit buttons – all will be getting our undivided attention. ✓ Social distancing is still important to keep everyone healthy, so we will continue to ask students to limit the number of people in common spaces at any one time. ✓ For the safety of all residents, we have added floor stickers showing the right distances to be apart and have reconfigured layouts of shared spaces to maximise use of communal areas, whilst maintaining a safe distance. ✓ The new cleaning schedule is published for students to see. ✓ We have circulated information about the support lines, open at all times, to ensure in an emergency there is always someone to call.

EVENTS Our events have gone virtual due to the restrictions in place with Covid-19. This allowed us to continue to support and grow our community in a way that kept everyone safe. Our events will continue online, via our social handles, until we are safely allowed to conduct them face to face. We will keep you posted well in advance of any changes.

Virtual Events: Our events aren’t just for our residents, we have opened up a programme of over 70 events to your friends and family to take part. From Yoga to Guitar masterclasses, BBQ cook outs and floristry workshops, we’ve got an event that’s sure to pique your interest.
