DCSD announces Teacher Feature winners

The Darlington County School District’s Teacher Forum has announced the Teacher Feature winners for February. The program recognizes one teacher from each school to honor excellence in education.

Teacher Feature is coordinated by the district’s Teacher Forum, which is composed of each school’s Teacher of the Year. The purpose of the Teacher Forum is to foster professional growth and teacher leadership.

Better Homes and Gardens Segars Realty sponsors the Teacher Feature program, which honors Teacher Feature winners with free meals at local restaurants.

The February honorees are:

McElveen named to Dean’s List at GSU

Mackenzie McElveen of Hartsville was recently named to the Dean’s List at Georgia Southern University

To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must have at least a 3.5 grade point average and carry a minimum of 12 hours for the semester.

McElveen, who serves as treasurer of the Tri Sigma chapter of Zeta Phil Beta, recently attended the sorority’s officer’s academy in Dallas, Texas.

Watford named Softball Player of the Week

Taylor Watford, senior designated hitter for Francis Marion University, has been named the Conference Carolinas Softball Player of the Week for the opening week of the 2023 season.

Watford, a native of Lamar and a graduate of Hartsville High School, batted .600 in four games – all Patriot wins – with four runs scored, a double, two homers, and seven runs batted in. She also recorded a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.300 slugging percentage.

She went 4-for-4 with a pair of two-run homers in a 9-0 win at USC Aiken, and then in a doubleheader sweep of Augusta University, she combined to go 2for-3 with three walks and three RBIs.

Watford played two sea- sons at Ole Miss before transferring to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) where she played one season.

The next home games for FMU will be the Patriot Invitational Tournament on Feb. 18-19.

Watford is majoring in psychology.

Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center will host an in-person hiring event that will include open interviews for a range of clinical and nonclinical positions from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22 at the hospital campus in the Main Lobby.

Candidates will have an opportunity to meet the staff, learn about working in the hospital, hear about opportunities for career growth, and interview for a job. Sign-on bonuses may be offered for some positions.

Hartsville Evening Lions Club

Hartsville Lions Club now has a Hartsville Evening Lions Club branch that meets every first and third Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Hartsville Chamber conference room on 5th Street in the Center Theater. New members welcomed. We are here to serve our community. We are non-profit.

Alzheimer Caregiver’s Support Group
