On January 29 the Province unveiled its new framework with benchmarks and required steps, as to what may or may not be permitted based on the total number of hospitalizations.
Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville MLA Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk stated, “The Alberta Government has developed a quantitative path forward to give Albertan’s an idea when restrictions will be lifted.

We are fortunate that our total hospital cases have been under 600, and if they stay at this benchmark then on February 8 restaurants, indoor fitness, and sports/activity classes for children can operate. There are some restrictions for each to maintain social distancing, but they can otherwise operate at full capacity.

If we reach a benchmark of under 450 hospital cases, then more restrictions will be lifted allowing more businesses to open. If cases do increase these measures will have to be re-evaluated, but we are hopeful that with Albertan’s taking the proper precautions, we will see these numbers continue to decrease.”
This may be the glimmer of hope many businesses in the restaurant, hospitality, and service industries have been waiting for.
