Construction of Commercial-Retail Plaza Continues in Vegreville

Construction of a commercial-retail plaza in the heart of downtown Vegreville began on Sept. 16.
The company behind the project is Build Bright Homes, which also constructed some residential homes in Foxview Estates this year.

Jamieson Brown, Manager of Community Engagement with the Town of Vegreville, commented about the new development. He stated, “This project remains an exciting development from the Town of Vegreville’s Economic Development perspective. It represents another investment in our community, and when paired with the recent renovations and upgrades we’ve seen at existing businesses, it further enhances what is a major artery through our community for both residents and visitors alike.”
Brown said there have not been any changes to what was originally submitted in the company’s development permit. Additionally, “There has been no formal presentation to Council since the initial meeting.” That initial meeting was in late October of 2024.

At town council’s Oct. 28 regular meeting, Kuldeep Sharma, and members of his team came before members to outline the project. At that time, Sharma stated that the plaza would include a day care and other retail services as well as a drive thru restaurant. He gave an overview of the commercial site plan that was approved by council on Oct. 16. “There will be two retail units and one is a drive thru restaurant. We are working with a few franchises right now.”
Another component of the space will be a day care, “which is in high demand right now,” added Sharma. “I have already lined up all the interior plans, and some staff, which we are going to move from Edmonton and live in the town permanently.” He noted that for 120 children, they would require 28 full and part-time employees.

Additionally, “If we fill up all the retail space here we need somewhere around 60-70 employees which will be fulltime and two permanent employees, including the drive thru restaurant.”
No timeline for construction and opening of the plaza have been provided, noted Brown.
