by Quadrangle Staff

Newfield High School's April Student of the Month is Cameron Unger. Cameron, twin of last months student of the month, Delaney, had nominations through the roof as well Ranked 9 out of 381 students, Cameron is maintaining an unweighted GPA of 97 6250 and a weighted GPA of 101 6625 He’ll have the potential to graduate in June with more than 35 college credits. The number of things Cameron is involved in, both in and out of school, is almost as high as his unweighted GPA; slight exaggeration there. He’s a member of the Thespian Honor Society, president of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, member of the National Honor Society and the Newfield Drum Club As a trombonist, Cameron’s a member of the Newfield Jazz Band, was a member of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra, the NYSSMA AllState Symphonic Band and a member of the varsity golf team. Outside of school he works as an assistant for the family’s foundation, Live Like Laney, he volunteers for the Jr. PGA League at Timber Point Golf Course and worked as an assistant at South Shore Golf. Being confident in the answer he’d give, I asked Cameron who or what inspires him to be as hard working and respected as he is His response was twin sister, Delaney If you remember, Cameron was Delaney’s inspiration seeing how strong he was being there for her through her battle for life Understandably, Cameron is inspired by Delaney’s drive to not just fight, but to have the motivation and determination to maintain her passion and keep on dancing. His teachers speak the world of him. Mr. Austin, NHS Band director, amongst other titles, stated Cameron strives for excellence in performance and leadership He exhibits an inherent personal desire for achieving goals that result in blossoming fruition His positive outlook, exemplary work ethic, dependability, leadership qualities and passion for learning and helping others make Cameron an asset to everything he’s a part of.

Mr. Latham, Cameron’s AP US Gov’t and Politics teacher describes him as quietly confident with a grounding that belies his age; a young man who learns for the love of it. Though known for his musical exploits, everyone outside of music nation knows him as a kind, thoughtful and gracious person whose zest for life and learning is infectious Lastly, Dr Goldstein, NHS band director, also with many other titles, describes Cameron as a scholar-athlete, an artist and an allaround good, honest and kind gentleman. Cameron is headed to University of South Carolina in the fall where he will major in music education with a concentration in music performance. As the stud musician he is, Cameron has already auditioned and earned his spot in USC’s marching band named, The Carolina Band, also known as The Mighty Sound of the Southeast Cameron, you’re an exceptional young man to say the least I’m confident when you arrive on the campus of USC post-graduation, it won’t take long for all South Carolina Gamecocks to see you for the asset you’ll quickly become. Congratulations on being voted Newfield’s Student of the Month for April!
