Topsail Island Shoreline Protection Commission Luncheon

 To promote environmental management on Topsail Island, the Topsail Island Shoreline Protection Commission (TISPC) held a luncheon on February 3, inviting more than 65 guests that included State House Representative Carson Smith, Chairman of the Pender County Board of Commissioners David Piepmeyer, Onslow County Commissioner Mark Price and other local officials, business leaders and friends of the Topsail Island community. Pender County Tourism Director Tammy Proctor co-hosted the event with Steve Smith, chairman of the TISPC and mayor of Topsail Beach. The event took place at the assembly building at Missiles and More Museum. Mayor Smith talked about waste and two programs that help businesses be more environmentally friendly. Guest speakers represented Karen Beasley Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, North Carolina Coastal Federation, Visit NC and Outdoor NC as well as the Salty Turtle Beer Company, which talked about their environmental business practices.

Sundown in the Ferry 2022

 Get ready for summer fun in Sneads Ferry! Sundown in the Ferry is a free summer concert series established by The Satellite Club of The Rotary Club of Sneads Ferry. This year’s events will feature live music, vendors, food trucks, family-friendly activities and more. Save the dates: May 28, June 25, July 30 and August 20.

Annual Dolphin Dip in Surf City

 Surf City’s annual Dolphin Dip may have been cancelled in 2021, but it came back stronger than ever for its 20th annual event on Saturday, January 1, 2022. Hundreds of people came out to the beach dressed in costumes to support Share The Table, a nonprofit organization that helps hungry families in Pender and Onslow counties. When the clock struck noon, attendees rushed into the water (and rushed out just as quickly), washing away the previous year and starting the new year refreshed and restored. Trophies were awarded for best costumes in youth, adult and group categories.
