U.S. Representative Mike McIntyre was the guest speaker on Thursday, February 21, 2008, at the North Brunswick Chamber of Commerce business luncheon. McIntyre, a Lumberton Democrat, was accompanied by two members of his staff.

Rep. McIntyre addressed a number of topics, including the importance of supporting farmers and the military. He also indicated that he and his Congressional staff are focusing on a number of issues, including the environment and economic growth in the Seventh District.

Her injuries were so extensive that Answering the Call arranged for Julie and her grandmother to travel back to the United States for surgery.

with health and beauty. In both cases, however, it promotes just the opposite. Sun exposure is not only the biggest contributor to premature aging, it is also the leading cause of the most common type of cancer in the United States: skin cancer.

This connection has led Wilmington Plastic Surgery to offer free skin evaluations to the public from time to time.

“It’s a way for us to give back to our community,” said Mark Morgan, MD, FACS. “As with most cancers, early detection of skin cancer is extremely important for successful treatment.”

There are three types of skin cancers: basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma. While all can spread and need to be treated, melanoma is by far the most serious, accounting for more than 8,100 deaths in the United States in 2007, compared to 2,700 from non-melanomas.

Periodic skin evaluations are crucial for catching all types of skin cancer. Screening by a plastic surgeon has the added benefit of providing a continuity of care for those who are also concerned with the aesthetics of sun damage.

Antonio’s has a kids’ menu and offers a full liquor bar and a vast choice of fine wines. The Leland location also presents menu specials every weekend.

The Maternity Center offers parents and babies a soothing atmosphere that invites relaxation and comfort for everything from the birthing experience to the first bath. The team of Maternity Center experts, comprised of obstetricians, anesthesiologists, pediatricians and nursing staff, work tirelessly to ensure that the individual needs of each family are met—all the while keeping both Mom and Baby healthy and secure. Also strongly encouraged is whole family involvement in the experience, with 24-hour baby rooming in and generous visiting hours which even incorporate a lounge chair for a loved one who may want to stay overnight to be fully present during the baby’s first hours of life.

Guests should know one important thing. “Just because it’s not on the menu, doesn’t mean we won’t serve it,” Pagley insists. With a few days notice, they will be happy to provide for individual requests.

Come evening, white tablecloths and wine glasses adorn the tables, and in the summer, the outdoor patio is vivacious with live music every Friday night from 10 pm to 2 am (with no cover charge). A light bar menu of delights such as pizza, cheese sticks and chicken wings are served.

And, when challenges present themselves, whether in premature birth or if a baby has special needs, a fully equipped mobile unit quickly transports infants from the hospital to a nearby regional center so that they can get the medical attention they need in a timely fashion. In addition, ongoing care is available from the nursing staff when Mom and Baby have gone back to their home, an incredible offering almost unheard of these days.

First Bank opened its first branch in the rural town of Troy, North Carolina, in 1935. In the 73 years since, the company has grown to include 70 branches in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

The Leland branch of First Bank opened in November 2006 in the Logan Homes building at 60 Gregory Road. Already, plans are underway to expand and begin construction of a permanent branch in the Waterford area this year.

There’s a new church in town—Gateway Church of Christ, which began meeting in September 2007 in Leland. A very community-focused ministry, Gateway is a non-denominational church, which means they welcome people from all religious backgrounds or no religious backgrounds. This is a church for those who have never been to church or haven’t been in years, or for those who are simply curious about God. John Bair, Gateway’s Lead Minister, says the church is a “come as you are” place.

“We have a ton of new faces,” says John, “and we are experiencing new friendships and purpose. We are a diverse group, meaning our people come from all walks of life, but we are drawn by a ‘new’ awareness of God’s love.”

Gateway Church offers unique, fun and helpful programs, such as Financial Peace University, designed to help people get out of debt, and Back to Mayberry, a gathering on summer Wednesday nights to watch the Andy Griffith Show and revisit the moral principles visited in the show.

Gateway offers a variety of classes for adults, teens and children, and on Sunday mornings you will hear relevant messages, vibrant praise and worship music. Sundays also feature a dynamic children’s church called Bridge Kidz!
