Thursday 24 May TOT’S TALES – ‘THE UGLY DUCKLING’
Come and join in with our popular story sessions for pre-school children at the Wetland Centre. The children will listen to ‘The Ugly Duckling’ written by Ian Beck a simple retelling of Hans Christian Anderson’s famous fairy tale. The story will be followed by crafts, games and bird related activities. ‘BEHIND THE SCENES’ WALK WITH THE NATIONAL TRUST’S LANDS MANAGER
Join Jonny Parkes, Lands Manager for the National Trust, on a ‘behind the scenes’ walk around St Ouen’s Pond, the orchid fields and other areas in and around the Bay. Learn how these sites are managed by the Lands team and access areas not normally accessible to the public. OUTDOOR PAINTING WORKSHOP IN THE ORCHID FIELDS
The term “plein air” was used to describe Claude Monet and the Impressionists in France. Since then the term has been used to describe people who love to be outdoors in nature and who love to paint landscapes. Join local artist Maureen Osborne in the orchid fields at Le Noir Pre with your paints, easels and brushes and paint the various orchids in full bloom. An accomplished artist, with many years’ experience in painting and drawing, Maureen is excited and looks forward to welcoming artists of all abilities to this outdoor painting class, in any chosen medium. TAWAI – A VOICE FROM THE FOREST – A FILM BY BRUCE PARRY
Tawai is the word the nomadic hunter gatherers of Borneo use to describe their inner feeling of connection to nature. In this dreamy, philosophical and sociological look at life, explorer Bruce Parry (of BBC Tribe, Amazon and Arctic fame) travels the world to learn from people living lives very different to our own. From the jungles of Malaysia to the tributaries of the Amazon, Tawai is a quest for re-connection, providing a powerful voice from the heart of the forest itself. An exciting opportunity for families to dip into the weird and wonderful world of creatures that live in and around fresh water. Children will explore in and around the pond, identifying and learning about the strange creatures that lurk below the surface. Suitable for children aged 4-11.
