NOTE FROM OUR PRESIDENT & CEO

RACHEL S. MOORE As we open our 2026–2027 season of Glorya Kaufman Present Dance at The Music Center, it’s my pleasure to welcome you to The Music Center’s Ahmanson Theatre for Ballet Festival: Jerome Robbins, a Joyce Theater production, curated by the incredible New York City Ballet Principal Dancer Tiler Peck. I cannot imagine a more fitting way to begin the season than with this celebration of one of the 20th century’s great choreographers, brought to us by an artist Los Angeles audiences have come to know and love. For all of us at The Music Center, welcoming Tiler back feels like a homecoming, and I’m sure she, as a Southern California native, sees it the same way. This past season, audiences saw her dance on our stage with New York City Ballet, and, in 2017, she became the first woman to curate The Music Center’s BalletNOW, a program that went on to become a documentary on Hulu. Just last month, New York City Ballet named Tiler as the company’s first choreographic associate, the first woman to have a choreographic position with the company. Now she returns to The Music Center as both curator and performer, bringing together an exceptional roster of dancers from New York City Ballet and other leading companies around the world. This engagement is an L.A. premiere and the festival’s only U.S. performance this season, which makes it all the more special to share with you. Many know Jerome Robbins best for his choreographic work on Broadway, including West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof and Gypsy. Yet, in the ballet world, he remains somewhat of an unsung hero, far too often less celebrated than his contemporaries. Robbins was a visionary artist who helped shape American ballet by blending classical technique with jazz-infused theatricality, and he moved between commercial and concert dance with rare ease. In doing so, he brought dance to an enormous audience, many of whom might never have encountered ballet. Performed to live chamber music, the works in this festival reveal the wit, musicality and emotional depth that make his choreography timeless. These performances also mark a historic moment. A Suite of Dances was created by Robbins for Mikhail Baryshnikov and, until now, has been performed only by male dancers. Baryshnikov himself rehearsed Tiler in the work, and, when they were finished, he told her the piece was now hers to make her own. Tiler is the first woman to dance this role, and I am thrilled that audiences at The Music Center will see her perform it during Saturday’s performance. As the first engagement of our new season, this festival sets the tone for a year of remarkable dance. In January 2027, we continue with the L.A. premiere of The Surge: An Ode to Sinéad O’Connor, also a Joyce Theater production, from Tony Award®–winning choreographer Sonya Tayeh. I hope you will join us throughout the season and “be swept away.” My heartfelt thanks to our Ballet Circle donors and to Center Dance Arts, founding supporter of Dance at The Music Center, for their steadfast dedication to bringing world-class dance to Los Angeles. Thank you for being with us as we open this new season. Enjoy the performance! Warmly,

As a cultural anchor in Los Angeles, The Music Center is home to some of the world’s greatest and most highly regarded artistic programs and events. The Music Center’s programming arm, TMC Arts, presents and produces arts experiences that reflect and serve the diverse populations of Los Angeles, with a commitment to making dance and dancing accessible to everyone. Offered year-round, these programs include Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center, arts learning programs in schools and neighborhoods, free participatory events on campus like The Music Center’s Dance DTLA, and immersive encounters and experiences that challenge expectations and bring communities together. Ticket sales and subscriptions alone cannot sustain this work. Your gift makes it possible.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT As a steward of The Music Center of Los Angeles County, we recognize that we occupy land originally and still inhabited and cared for by the Tongva, Tataviam, Serrano, Kizh and Chumash Peoples. We honor and pay respect to their elders and descendants — past, present and emerging — as they continue their stewardship of these lands and waters. We acknowledge that settler colonization resulted in land seizure, disease, subjugation, slavery, relocation, broken promises, genocide and multigenerational trauma. This acknowledgment demonstrates our responsibility and commitment to truth, healing and reconciliation and to elevating the stories, culture and community of the original inhabitants of Los Angeles County.

We are grateful to have the opportunity to live and work on these ancestral lands. We are dedicated to growing and sustaining relationships with Native peoples and local tribal governments, including (in no particular order) the: • Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians • Gabrielino Tongva Indians of California Tribal Council • Gabrieleno/Tongva San Gabriel Band of Mission Indians • Gabrieleño Band of Mission Indians-Kizh Nation • San Manuel Band of Mission Indians • San Fernando Band of Mission Indians

This acknowledgment, however, is empty without our efforts to counter the effects of structures that have long enabled injustice against Native Americans. The Music Center is committed to working with First Peoples to build and sustain partnerships and grow collaborations that engage and respect the knowledge, expertise and agency of First Peoples, past, present and future. The Music Center strives to be a champion of the arts in Los Angeles for all people. We are listening, learning, unlearning, and will evolve in the work ahead. To learn more about the First Peoples of Los Angeles County, please visit the Los Angeles City/County Native American Indian Commission website at lanaic.lacounty.gov
