Looking into wants and needs of tiny town By Helen Tatchell

One small hamlet in Moorabool does not have a shop, recreation facility or a community meeting place, but that could change after last week’s Council meeting. Dales Creek is made up of approximately 200 homes and is nestled in the surroundings of the Wombat State Forest and the Lerderderg State Park. Woodlands Councillor Ally Munari delivered a Notice of Motion at the Wednesday 4 August meeting asking the CEO to prepare a report on the population growth and needs of the Dales Creek community. “Everyone would agree that COVID has made it challenging to get out and about and engage with our communities, to have those in-depth discussions about what some communities really want and need. Dales Creek is situated in the hills between Greendale and Blackwood with roads intertwining throughout the landscape. “With so many families making up this community I feel that it warrants an in-depth conversation into what the Dales Creek residents require,” she said. Some examples Cr Munari would like considered but not limited to, in the report is an active recreation space to cater for children of the area; picnic and seating area to encourage community relationships and consideration and respect for the native character. “Maybe a central location could be useful in case as the storms that occurred in early June arise, and the need to gather to regroup, as we saw was necessary.” Cr Munari’s Notice of Motion noted the population over the last 10-years had notably grown, due to an abundance of homes being built on vacant lots. “With so many families building in the area and with the 2016 Census data quite outdated, I would like to request a report into the population growth and needs of the Dales Creek community which will complement and help with plans for this area into the future.” All Councillors voted in favour of the Motion.
