It takes many hours to read a good book, but have you ever thought how many hours it takes to write one? Di Cahir is the author of Between Two Mountains, an historical book taking in the town of Dunnstown and surrounds, and she notched up over 3000 hours compiling it. At the launch of the book in January this year, Leo Murphy said, as one of the oldest citizens, he’s been fortunate to call Dunnstown home. “The book will refresh memories and it will be used as a reference tool in time to come,” he said. “It’s taken around 18-months or so from start to finish, near on a full-time job and if you had to put a figure on it, I’d say up to $150,000 would be a good estimate if you had to pay someone by the hour.” Ms Cahir was humble in her speech, saying it was not about her, “it’s about the book.” “The family history and photos that were submitted so we could put this together, and the trust everyone had in me with this book. “How privileged we are to have so many living treasures,” she said. A small committee got together to organize a book about the Dunnstown community, and they started off as far back as they could go. Due to COVID, Ms Cahir finished the book earlier than expected as she was due to travel overseas to Europe for three-months, with the trip not eventuating, but the book did. Moorabool Mayor Tom Sullivan said it was an honour to launch the book by a local author. “The content focus’ on Dunnstown and its people, also covering the surrounding areas,” he said. “There are over 400 families mentioned in the book, and many still live in the area today and, I highly recommend this book to everyone.” A huge round of applause erupted at the Dunnstown Recreation Reserve when Leo Murphy said the contribution by Di Cahir is nothing short of massive. “Not sure how we can thank her for that.” Between Two Mountains was printed with the help of a Ballan & District Community Bank Branch grant. If you missed ordering a paperback or hard copy of the book prior to the launch, copies are still available by emailing Ms Cahir - dideelee@me.com or 0409 919 692.
