They’ll be in uniform and most likely setting up a table full of free information for the public, with the popular four-legged mascot, Molly the golden retriever, greeting attendees. The Village Shopping Centre was the targeted area last week as Bacchus Marsh police began to conduct a survey to identify resident’s key safety concerns in the Moorabool, Hepburn, and Golden Plains Shires. In your community, what are your safety concerns? The survey gives Moorabool residents a chance to tell local police what their main safety concerns are, and how police can assist in combating these issues in a more productive way. The survey asks to put a variety of those safety concerns in priority order and includes a range of issues from highest to lowest, including Safety on public transport, Stock theft, Road Safety, Alcohol and Drugs and Safety of my property and possessions. Sergeant Glenn Saw from the Bacchus Marsh police station told the Moorabool News the survey has been received well and will help officers identify community needs. “We’re after feedback from the community to get some understanding of where the police are at, how they’re performing, and how safe people feel in the community. “It’s all about trying to do things better,” he said. “To improve on how we’re perceived and how people want us to perform in the community.” Sergeant Saw said officers are trying to visit all Shires in the subdistrict to engage with community members and push the message of the survey. “All the results of the survey will be collated and returned to us,” he said. “The information will be released to the community in February next year, and we’ll try and work on the recommendations that the survey provides.” You have only until December 18 to take part in the survey, and it can be found at www.engage.vic.gov.au and look for the Victoria Police Moorabool Safety Survey. The survey information is solely for the purpose of better understanding the community’s needs and all respondents will remain anonymous.
