The MJLC is an abolitionist discussion/study group who uses criticism to examine the widespread harms of the carceral state. In addition, we use what we learn and discuss in study group to produce a magazine.
The theme of our Fall 2022 Issue is "Consciousness." As an abolitionist effort, our publication invites creators and readers alike to tune into a moment when they first become conscious towards institutions of systemic harm, oppression, or activist initiatives. Or, maybe “consciousness” is interpreted as a personal awakening to one’s identity, standing, or recognition. All pieces contained in this issue submitted by writers, activists, and thinkers may also work as a vehicle to make others conscious towards something.
A major thank you to the UW-Madison's Division of the Arts' Artivism Student Action Program (ASAP). Without their generous grant, the Fall 2022 MJLC Edition would not have been possible.
