Most of us have a computer of some sort; be it laptop, desktop or tablet. Modern software and hardware evolution means that most of us will need qualified technical expertise to sort it out – and this is where Next Step Network Services, our own Millwater resident business, comes to our assistance. Owner Stephen Hooper talked to theMillwatermag about the expert computer services available on call from Next Step.

Stephen grew up on a small farm in Drury, where he attended primary school before going on to Rosehill College, and then AUT where he graduated in 2007 with his Bachelor of Engineering Technology, specialising in Computer Systems Engineering. Stephen had been working part-time in Dick Smith Electronics in Papakura since he was 15, and he returned there as full-time assistant manager for the first year after graduating. Stephen then moved to Edtech as a junior systems administrator and was assigned to Rosehill College, where, over the next three years, he rose to become senior network administrator and then systems engineer.

Being true Kiwis, Stephen and wife Kate then took off to Europe on their OE, and it was during this time that Stephen decided to start Next Step. Stephen explained the business name, which came partly from him being known as ‘Step’ at school, plus he wanted to signify his commitment to the future of computer technology by using the word ‘Next’. Computer technology continues to evolve rapidly, as we know, and Next Step Network Services aims not only to be in step with this evolution but to understand what will be the next steps. Stephen contributes proactively in the fortnightly meetings in Orewa of TNG (The Network Group), which is a like-minded peer group of successful people who share business experience, contact information and more.

The breadth and depth of Stephen’s computer expertise has seen Next Step Network Services be in demand across the North Shore and the wider Rodney areas. His trusted abilities have seen his business grow through word-ofmouth recommendations, added to an effective presence on Google AdWords, on Facebook and in local media.
