The Army Within

You have been blessed with an internal army that is constantly at battle with the enemy. This army never stops fighting to keep you protected from the trillions of disease-causing viruses, bacteria, parasites and fungi that bombard your body daily, attempting to set up camp. Mostly unseen and unheard, these nasties attack you from all angles, externally and internally. If it weren’t for your personal army, your immune system, you would be in dire straits. But not all bacteria in and on you are bad, as around 100 trillion of them form part of your complex immune system.

Yet at times we can be guilty of expecting our immune system to function without any help. The saying “an army marches on its stomach” means a group of soldiers or workers can only fight or function effectively if they have been well fed. It makes sense then to keep your immune system strong at all times, not just if you feel unwell or when the flu season strikes. Prevention is the key! If you are constantly getting colds or repeat infections, it is a sure sign that all is not well with your immunity.

Bolster your friendly soldiers with a diet full of whole grains, omega-rich oils and healthy fats, unsweetened yoghurt, colourful fruits and vegetables – eat a rainbow; avoid processed grub full of sugar, trans fats and chemicals; reduce stress where possible; get more sleep; supplement with a good quality high potency multi-vitamin and individual supplements such as Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Cod Liver Oil, Olive Leaf Extract, Garlic, Oregano Oil, Medicinal Mushrooms, Echinacea, Colloidal Silver – plus recolonise your good bacteria with a quality probiotic. These and many other excellent singular and combination immunity-boosting supplements are available at Health By

Millwater Women’s Group

Our April meeting was held in the gardens of one of the original Millwater residents. Vera generously invited us to have a shared outdoor morning tea and enjoy her lovely garden. We all loved seeing her beautiful mature trees and hearing so much history about the lovely area we live in. Thanks to Vera and her friends who made us so welcome and shared their history so generously with us.

Our May 18th meeting was back at the Pioneer Village where one of our members (thanks Marian) has organised a speaker and some CPR lessons for us. This is something most of us needed a refresher on so will be a morning well spent and of course a chance to catch up with all the other members of the group.

GBPensions’ partnership means they can help with your pension transfer to NZ!

GBPensions have secured an Overseas Alliance, meaning they can still assist clients with the transfer of UK pension schemes with “safeguarded rights”. Such schemes include Defined Benefit (DB or Final Salary) pension schemes and other schemes with any form of underlying guarantee. However, GBPensions’ director Tony Chamberlain warns that the difficulties encountered achieving this partnership may prove too onerous for many other NZ financial advisory firms.

Restrictions with affected schemes are a consequence of the UK’s 2015 Pensions Freedom rules. Under these guidelines, members wishing to transfer out of such schemes must seek advice from a financial adviser who is not only regulated by the UK authorities, but also has appropriate UK pension transfer qualifications. Oddly, very few UK advisers are permitted by the UK authorities to give such advice – even if they have the appropriate UK qualifications and are willing parties.

Tony and the team spent many weeks hunting for, talking to and meeting with potential candidates, but in several cases the advisers’ compliance managers or PI insurers would not permit them to proceed. Others wanted to charge clients an additional NZ$10,000 – thus reducing the potential financial benefits of the transfer.

Fortunately, GBPensions have overcome this serious issue. that many NZ advisers, for various reasons, will no longer be able to assist with the transfer of UK, DB pension schemes.”

For a friendly, informal chat about your UK to NZ pension transfer options please phone GBPensions on 0800 427 693.

A Disclosure Statement for GBPensions financial advisers is available without charge or obligation.
