Millwater Women’s Group

The Millwater Women’s Group spent a very pleasant warm summer’s day wandering through Eden Gardens, an abandoned quarry nestled at the foot of Mt Eden which had its beginnings in July 1964. Today it is a national showplace which boasts the Southern Hemisphere’s largest collection of camellias, splendid collections of other plants, mature trees, flowering shrubs and perennials, with many memorials scattered throughout the grounds.

Although our group was not large this month, we all managed to walk to the top of the gardens and get a sweeping view of Auckland City and its harbour. The visit ended with a very pleasant sit-down under the umbrellas, where we enjoyed a drink and bite to eat from the cafeteria, with lots of friendly chatter, thoroughly enjoyed by all.
