By E. Chenice Thompson, BA., FCCEP "As I learn more, my students learn through my inspiration!" For more than 30 years, with a large majority of this time as a public-school elementary teacher, the focus was core subjects such as: English, Reading, Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. Anyone remember these? At that time, it was an important aspect of daily instruction. While many changes have come and gone, I find it to be one of the joys of my teaching experience. Experiencing them learning, created my inspiration, creativity and fueled increased learning in the students I was privileged to teach. Technology has changed and, in some cases, enhanced the teaching techniques of earlier years. For the past 15 years I have served in the private school arena, as a teacher and now an executive director, overseeing several programs which include child development through elementary level grade school. I had to raise my technical level, especially my computer literacy. While I primarily oversee the teaching staff, because of the pandemic, many students are being educated by their public-school teacher through on line technology, such as LaunchED@Home. We recognized a need when many working parents in our community needed assistance because their children needed a safe, social distance environment to study, while the parents were working. Someone to coach, motivate, provide structure and lunch. We call it "Learning Pods; A Supervised Center for Virtual Learning for Students." The experience has been great, first to see students educating us on their technical skills while we support their teachers and parents with academic support. So, it continues as I learn more, the students are learning, and we are inspired to support them and their parents during these unprecedented times. I could have never imagined that we would experience this season in our education arena. However, I am still inspired to educate! More Info: 407-522-6511
