Following a series of sold-out shows across the UK, richard Hawley returns to Sheffield’s city Hall on Tuesday 16th December to celebrate the 20th anniversary of coles corner. Joined by his full band and a string section, Richard will perform Coles Corner in its entirety in the city that shaped it. Tickets are on general sale now and are available from

In the two decades that have elapsed since Richard Hawley abandoned band life full-time, first with The Longpigs and then as Pulp’s guitarist – the 57-year-old songwriter has forged one of the most singular and diverse careers in modern music.
Following the universal acclaim of his Top 5 2024 album, In This City They Call You Love, and the success of the award-winning
musical featuring his songs, Standing At The Sky’s Edge, Richard released a special anniversary editions of his revered 2005 album Coles Corner earlier this year. Coles Corner was Hawley’s third studio album and his first for Mute Records. After five years of garnering praise for his songwriting talents and heart-melting baritone voice, and steadily building a solid fanbase through
his outstanding live performances, hard work paid off on an album regarded by many as his best. Recorded in Sheffield’s Yellow Arch Studios, and co-produced with his long-time bassist Colin Elliot, and Mike Timm, Coles Corner featured fellow musicians Shez Sheridan (guitars), Jon Trier (keyboards), Jonny Wood (upright bass) and Andy Cook (drums). They conjured up an exquisite album

News, Information and Advice
dogs to be permanently allowed on supertram
South Yorkshire’s Mayor Oliver Coppard has confirmed that dogs will now be permanently allowed on Supertram services, following a successful trial and strong public support. More than 10,600 people responded to a public consultation, with 75% in favour of changing the rules to allow dogs onboard. Since the trial began in March, over 6,000 dogs have travelled on Supertram – a clear sign of demand and public approval. Previously, only assistance dogs or dogs in carry cages were permitted. Under the new permanent policy, one well-behaved dog per passenger will be allowed to travel on Supertram. The move follows similar successful trials on light rail networks in Greater Manchester, the West Midlands, and Blackpool. South Yorkshire’s Mayor, Oliver Coppard, said: “Fixing public transport in South Yorkshire means making it work for all of us, and that includes our four-legged friends. More than 10,000 people have told us: allowing dogs on trams makes our network more inclusive and accessible. We’re building a public transport system that reflects the needs of the people who use it every day. Whether you’re commuting, exploring, or simply heading out with your dog, Supertram will get you there.” Since Supertram came back under public control in 2024, investment has more than doubled to £15.3 million to improve the network. It’s part of South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority’s commitment to invest over £110m by 2027. This includes upgrades to the trams, track, control systems and power supplies alongside the construction of a new Tram Train station at Magna. Sean English, Managing Director at Supertram, said: “We’re delighted to welcome dogs onboard our trams permanently, following the strong public support we saw during the trial. This change reflects our commitment to making Supertram more accessible and responsive to the needs of our passengers. Throughout the trial, we worked hard to ensure the safety and wellbeing of both our customers and colleagues, and we’ll continue to monitor and manage the service to maintain a positive experience for everyone. It’s a great example of how listening to our passengers helps us shape a better, more inclusive transport network. I’d also like to thank our Supertram colleagues for their hard
work and dedication throughout the trial period, their efforts were instrumental in making it a success.”
A new Business Plan for 2025/2026, approved in March by the SYMCA Board, outlines priorities for the tram network which includes a £15 million investment in the next two years tackling the issues caused by trams that are 30 years old. SYMCA is also looking at buying a new fleet by 2032, subject to government funding.
A new Tram-Train stop at Magna Science Adventure Centre is also being built, set to open in Winter 2025/6. It’s the first addition to the Tram Train service since 2018 and will serve visitors to the Magna Science Adventure Centre and people living and working in Templeborough, Rotherham. With buses coming back under public control from 2027 and Supertram already under public control, it will allow the Mayor to realise his ambitions to create a fully integrated public transport system across South Yorkshire. South Yorkshire’s Supertram network is set to benefit from further investment this October half-term, as essential rail replacement works take place to improve reliability and futureproof the system for years to come. The works mark the final phase of a major programme of investment delivered this year, as part of South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority’s (SYMCA) commitment to invest over £110m by 2027. This includes upgrades to the trams, track, control systems and power supplies alongside the construction of a new Tram Train station at Magna.
The next stage of works will begin on Infirmary Road from Sunday 26 October to Friday 31 October and partially affect Blue and Yellow route tram services.
Melanie Corcoran, SYMCA’s Executive Director of Transport, said: “These works are part of SYMCA’s ongoing investment in Supertram. By scheduling them during the school holidays, when passenger numbers are lower, we aim to minimise disruption. Our reliable replacement bus services are scheduled to connect with trams for onward travel so people can continue to make journeys during this time. We’re grateful to customers for their patience during this period of ambitious and essential upgrades. This investment will help ensure the safe and reliable operation of Supertram for the
millions who rely on it every year.”
Rail replacement works on Infirmary Road
The rail replacement works are essential to replace worn rails and ensure trams can continue to operate safely for years to come.
The new rails will give passengers a better travel experience by improving comfort, reducing noise, and reducing the risk of unplanned closures on the network.
These essential works will be undertaken along Infirmary Road near to the tram stop. To allow these to be completed safely, Blue and Yellow route tram services will be subject to alteration between Sunday 26 October and Friday 31 October inclusive.
Infirmary Road, Langsett/ Primrose View, Bamforth Street, Hillsborough Interchange, Malin Bridge, Hillsborough Park, Leppings Lane and Middlewood tram stops will not be served during this time.
It’s important to note the majority of the Supertram system will run as normal during the works, with the exception of the Blue and Yellow routes which will run as follows:
• Blue route tram services will run between Halfway and Shalesmoor for Kelham Island operating at the normal frequency of up to every 12 minutes.
• Yellow route tram services will run between Meadowhall Interchange and Cathedral during the day until around 20:00 on Monday to Friday, operating at the normal frequency of up to every 12 minutes
• after 20:00 on Monday to Friday and all day on Sunday, Yellow route tram services will extend beyond Cathedral and run between Shalesmoor for Kelham Island and Meadowhall Interchange
• Purple route tram services will run as normal
• Tram Train services will run as normal except on Saturday evenings whilst the construction works for the new Magna Tram Train Station and Park & Ride facility take place

• The BL1 service will run between Shalesmoor for Kelham Island and Malin Bridge up to every 12 minutes and will serve limited bus stops located near all affected tram stops along the route.
• The YE1 service will run between Castle
Square/Cathedral and Middlewood up to every 12 minutes during the day on Monday to Friday, until around 20:00.
• After 20:00 on Monday to Friday and all day on Sunday, the YE1 service will operate between Shalesmoor for Kelham Island and Middlewood and will serve limited bus stops located near the affected tram stops along the route. All valid tram and multimodal tickets will be accepted for travel on the BL1 and YE1 replacement bus services.
Customers can buy their ticket in advance using the TSY Mobile app, or from a tram conductor. Alternatively, tickets can be purchased from the BL1 and YE1 bus drivers using contactless card or cash payments when boarding.
Customers can find out more about the replacement bus services and view the BL1 and YE1 timetable via travelsouthyorkshire. com/InfirmaryRoad. Traffic and local bus services These essential rail replacement works on Infirmary Road, will require some traffic diversions which will affect traffic and some temporary changes to bus service 57 and 57a (Stagecoach) and 81 & 82 (First Bus) Pupils at Tinsley Meadows Primary School took part in a special cycling workshop with Olympic gold medallist and South Yorkshire’s Active Lives Commissioner, Ed Clancy OBE, after winning a prize in the Mayor’s Walk and Wheel Challenge 2025.
The school was one of over 140 across South Yorkshire to join Mayor Oliver Coppard’s Challenge that encouraged children to walk, wheel, scoot or cycle to school, promoting healthier, more active lifestyles. Tinsley Meadows was selected to receive the workshop, helping pupils build cycling skills, confidence and road safety awareness. The school celebrated its win during Cycle to School Week (13-17 October 2025). Ed Clancy OBE, said:“It was brilliant to see how much energy and enthusiasm the kids at Tinsley Meadows brought to the session. I believe every child should have the freedom to choose whether to walk, scoot, or bike to school – it’s a great way to stay active, build confidence and healthy habits for life.
The Mayor’s Walk and Wheel Challenge is all about making moving more fun and easy, and this workshop was a cracking example of that in action.”
a
blooming success story as crystal peaks receives top award
Crystal Peaks Shopping Mall and Retail Park has received a gold medal in the prestigious Yorkshire Britain in Bloom Awards. The award, which is given as a mark of excellence, recognises the Sheffield shopping centre’s commitment to the neighbouring environment and wildlife.
And in a special report, there were accolades not only for the centre’s floral displays but also for the way it has embraced and encouraged a wide variety of wildlife and created special areas for all visitors to enjoy.
Britain in Bloom judges praised the centre’s abundance of hanging baskets and planters and the way in which both staff and tenants were encouraged to be involved in planting. They also noted that local schools were encouraged to take part, helping to teach the next generation about gardening and produce, while plants grown by the centre’s landscaping team were sold to raise money for local children’s charities. There was praise too for the way in which the centre embraces and enhances wildlife across the site.
“There are many provisions such as a hedgehog box, kestrel and swift boxes and swift sounds playing, along with bird and bat boxes and established beehives on the roof, which are
managed by a local beekeper,” the report said.
The judges also admired the way in which a fallen tree on a grass verge in one of the centre’s car parks had been used to encourage insects.
“The longer grass and wildflowers popping up around the trunk make for a great display, something unique and different to break up plain grass verges and established shrubs within the car parks,” they said.
“The centre’s sensory garden is also coming along well with a good selection of plants in the beds, creating a quieter area outside, making for a calm atmosphere amongst the flowers.
“Users have been considered here too, with a wide path and turning circle at the end for wheelchair or mobility scooter users and prams.”
Centre manager Lee Greenwood commented: “We are delighted that Britain in Bloom judges have once again recognised the enthusiasm and dedication that our landscape team put into creating a welcoming atmosphere for all at Crystal Peaks.
“Maintaining an area which is a viable wildlife habitat at the same time as welcoming so many visitors every day is vital to the centre’s philosophy of creating a genuine community hub.”

Award winning Cliff Richard tribute appearing in Sheffield
Local tribute producers Groovy Gazza Productions will be bringing the UK No.1 Cliff Richard tribute, Jimmy Jemain to the area next week. But this will also be a reunion for the show members. The show is called ‘Suddenly’ and in it Jimmy will be performing his award winning Cliff tribute alongside Lorrie Brown’s tribute to Olivia Newton John. The show will also feature a few duets made by the pair Gary Birtles and Lorrie Brown who are Groovy Gazza Productions have been producing shows around the UK for the last 15yrs. They regularly perform locally at The Fairways in Birley and The Olde House at Newbold in Chesterfield. They also make regular appearances at The Moor Market presenting their show in the food court.
They started out in the industry working with a young Jimmy Jemain long before he made his name on the popular TV show
Stars in their Eyes in 1990.
Gary says, ‘Lorrie and myself were booked to do a panto tour of Jack and the Beanstalk, Lorrie as principal girl and myself as the comic. The role of Jack was played by Jimmy and that was our first experience working together.
We toured around the South in clubs and community centres for 2 months in a transit van with a cast of 6 and the whole show packed into the van. It was the best education we ever had. We had to drive across the country, set up the show, perform a 3hr panto, take the set down and drive home.
It was probably the hardest job we ever did but taught us so much and was a lot of fun’.
Even back then Jimmy had an uncanny resemblance and vocal style of Cliff but this was way before his appearance on the popular tv show. Before the tribute industry started.
Since then Jimmy has gone on to forge an impressive career with his tribute performing all around the world. He was even booked to perform as a surprise guest at Cliff’s 70th birthday party. Cliff loved it and since then the pair have kept in touch. Jimmy also appeared in the West End in ‘CliffThe Musical’ at the Prince of Wales theatre.
Lorrie has gone on to have a successful career in the tribute scene as well with tributes to Kate
Bush, Stevie Nicks and her most successful tribute to Dame Vera Lynn.
She has appeared at the City Hall and Sheffield Peace Gardens on Armed Forces and Veterans Day on several occasions. She won her first award in 2013 and when Vera Lynn heard about it she invited Lorrie down to meet her at her home. The pair kept in touch regularly until Dame Vera sadly passed away in 2020.
The tribute market is the dominant employer now in the industry and has even had its own awards ceremonies.
The annual ceremony was called National Tribute Music Awards and Lorrie and Jimmy have won several between them.
‘Suddenly’ A tribute to Cliff and Olivia will be appearing at The Fairways in Birley next Tuesday 28th Oct between 12 - 3pm. Tickets are £19 inc a 2 course meal and available at the bar or call 0114 265 3692
The show will then be at The Olde House in Chesterfield on Wed 29th 12 - 3pm. 2 course meal and show £19.50. Tel 01246 274321
Lorrie will be performing her Vera Lynn tribute in Sheffield on Nov 11th, Armistice Day, at Crystal Peaks Market at 11.02am following the 2 minutes silence

Chris Wilder was equally as delighted as he was relieved following United’s hard-fought success over Watford at Bramall Lane on Saturday afternoon.
The victory was deserved but not without one or two nervy moments late on that didn’t go unnoticed by the boss or those in the vicinity of his technical area.
Speaking in the aftermath of a first home win of the campaign, he remarked:
“I still do believe we should have had more points on the board regarding a few decisions, but we are here to win, whether that is me in the dugout or supporters around the ground, that’s what we turn up for.
“I still don’t think people realise how hard it is to win games in the Championship, particularly with the position we are in, but we’ve done it and we have to use that momentum and bottle it going forward.
“We’ve worked on things in the break, getting
more men forward, sometimes it is mentality and desire to get in the box. I’m not a counter attacking manager, I want something at the end of it, and we did that, we showed a desire to score and win, we’d have liked it to be comfortable, but it was never going to be straightforward.”
Wilder added: “I’m delighted for Sydie (Peck) and Soumaré in there, people forget it is only his second season, we were
missing Tom (Davies) and Gus (Hamer) which were huge blows for us, but we’ve showed what we are about as a group. Now we have to keep moving forward.
“I thought our game management was great, they’ve got some talented players and individuals who can hurt you, we’d have love to have got two or three but one was enough to get us off the bottom of the table.”
nomBe RetuRns to Win miLLeRs ALL thRee Points
Sam Nombe’s comeback from injury was perfectly timed, as he scored the winning goal in Rotherham’s victory over Leyton Orient.
The Millers have faced setbacks this season with several strikers sidelined due to injury, making Nombe’s return a significant boost for manager Matt Hamshaw.
The forward was brought on after halftime for Josh Benson, and his strike ultimately secured the three points.
In the first half, the closest chance fell to Ar’jany Martha just seconds after kickoff, but he was denied by the quick reflexes of Orient goalkeeper Killian Cahill. Rotherham took the lead in the 57th minute through a well-crafted move.
Joe Rafferty’s chipped cross was nodded back across goal by Jamal Baptiste, allowing Nombe to poke the ball home.
Orient nearly equalized when Tayo Adaramola’s looping volley threatened to dip under the crossbar, prompting an unconventional save from Cameron Dawson.
The visitors also pressed from numerous corners, but Rotherham held firm — with Sonny Perkins shooting wide and Omar Beckles’s header being kept out by Dawson.

Henrik Pedersen wants to see his side replicate their second half performance against Charlton over 90 minutes in future matches.
Wednesday matched the hosts for much of the clash in the capital, but two first half goals were enough to seal three points for the Addicks.
The Owls rallied in the second period and Jamal Lowe reduced the scoreline to one, but Wednesday couldn’t find the equaliser.
Pedersen said: “We need to be brave from the beginning of the first half.
“To win football games, this bravery we showed in the second period, we should have had for 95 minutes.
“The boys do all they can every single minute of the game, but the first goal is too easy to give away in the Championship.
“Then we give away the set piece goal and it’s tough to be 2-0 down.
“We made some small changes, but it was more about the belief and the character from the boys, the courage in the second half.
“We have to win a game like this, but now we have
lost we have to learn from it. We have to take this second half with us because it was strong.
“We don’t have to make ourselves small, we need to think bigger.”
Goalkeeper Ethan Horvath was shown a red card in the final minute of the game, and Pedersen says the best environment will be created for the young shot-stopper who takes his place in midweek.
He added: “Of course it’s a big test, but we can only do as normal and try to create the best environment that we can when we integrate the young players.
“We have to support and do the best we can, and I’m sure he will do the best he can along with the other guys.”
The Owls boss had special praise for the travelling support from South Yorkshire, who showed much appreciation for his side at the end of the Valley defeat.
He added: “The little moment after the game was special with the players and the fans, we are one team and everyone knows we are together.
“How the players and fans were one today, it was amazing.”

Grant McCann insists restoring confidence to the Rovers squad will be a collective effort.
After conceding the equaliser in the defeat to Northampton Town, Rovers appeared to lack confidence in their play and were second best for much of the second half.
While McCann admits the staff will play a role in bolstering the group ahead of the trip to Reading, he says the onus is also on the players to do so.
“There is a lack of confidence at the minute and it’s our job to find it, but it’s also the players’ job to find it for themselves,” he said.
“After a positive week on the training ground and a positive start to the game, at half time you’re thinking ‘come on, let’s build on this when we’re going towards our own fans.’
“We didn’t quite do it.
“I keep saying it but it’s a long season and we have to get back onto the winning trail very soon.
We started the season magnificently and over the last five or six games, we haven’t got the results or performances we’re hoping to get.
“We need to keep searching for that.
“We have to pick the players back up again, make them understand why these things are happening and try to work on it.
“That’s all we can do. We’re not used to this, being in a position where we haven’t won for five or six games in the league.
“We need to suck it up, stay together and be as one. We need to continue to help the players to go out there and perform with confidence and a smile on their faces.”
