Woolley Wood is one of 16 local nature reserves across the city, covering a total of 650 hectares. Because of its age and location, Woolley Wood is a valuable haven for wildlife. It contains a wide range of woodland habitats and species and is a special place for local people to enjoy and explore. The event will be held at the entrance to the wood, adjacent to the BMX track off Ecclesfield Road at Lower Wincobank (just 5 minutes from Meadowhall Shopping Centre). From the M1, exit at junction 34 from the north at the roundabout, take the road signed Blackburn, take the first left under the railway bridge, then turn right at the traffic lights on the B6082 and the car

Maureen Shipley from the Friends of Concord Park and Woolley Wood said: “The Woolley Wood Bluebell Festival has been running for a number of years now and increases in popularity each year. The vast carpet of bluebells is a wonderful setting for the activities and visitors can find out more about one of the city’s most beautiful green spaces.” Other highlights include, local historian Professor Melvyn Jones leading a historical walk around the woods discovering the local and natural history of the site and local author, Rob Haslam, will lead a short walk of under two miles through the wood taken from his book ‘Walking South Yorkshire’.
