Relocation of Rotherham Outdoor Market Newport Road, North Cave,

Rotherham outdoor market will be temporarily relocated from the outdoor covered market to Effingham Street, from Monday 6th November 2023 as works progress of the regeneration of Rotherham Markets.

The market is a key milestone in the Council’s ambitious multi-millionpound town centre regeneration, part of its key commitment of investing in Rotherham’s future.

To allow this work to take place, the outdoor market will be temporarily relocated to Effingham Street to ensure that market traders can

operate, and shoppers can continue to use it while redevelopment work is carried out. The new temporary location has been carefully chosen to provide vendors and patrons with a welcoming and accessible space while the redevelopment project is in progress.

Rotherham Council’s Cabinet Member for Jobs & the Local Economy, Councillor Denise Lelliot, said: ”We are excited to begin the next phase in the redevelopment of the town centre markets. Local businesses, vendors, and community members have expressed their enthusiasm for the upcoming changes.

This temporary relocation is seen as a steppingstone towards an even more exciting and vibrant marketplace in the future.”

This relocation ensures that the existing outdoor market can continue to thrive while Rotherham evolves and grows. It also offers an exciting opportunity for both vendors and shoppers to experience a fresh and revitalised market atmosphere.

Once the works are complete, visitors will benefit from a refurbished indoor and outdoor covered market, extensive public realm, a modern and accessible central library and improved links

to the town centre and college.

This next phase of the town centre masterplan is a testament to the Council’s dedication to preserving the heritage of the town while embracing a dynamic future. The redevelopment will not only breathe new life into the community, but also provide economic opportunities for local businesses.

More than 50 years since the opening of the Centenary Market, this redevelopment will house great local traders in an environment fit for the 21st century, helping to bring good quality, affordable produce to the next

generations of shoppers.

Sheffield’s Children’s Services have been graded “Good” by Ofsted with Sheffield’s first ever ‘outstanding’ grading for the ‘experience and progress of children in care’.

This Ofsted inspection is the first since 2019, when its outcome was ‘good but requires improvement in help and protection’. This year’s inspection looked at the impact of leaders on social work practice with children and families, the experiences and progress of children who need help and protection and children in care, as well as the experiences and progress of care leavers.

Children’s Services are making a tangible and positive difference to the lives of children and families in Sheffield.

Councillor Dawn Dale at Sheffield City Council, said: “This is the most welcome news for us, and I congratulate everyone who had a part to play in this achievement. We are delighted to be recognised for the outstanding work that we do with children in care. The Ofsted report highlights the strength of our leadership team in Education, Children and Families and our childfocused, stable, consistent, and skilled workforce. It’s an incredible achievement and I particularly thank the professionals who work to achieve high standards of service for our children and young people. Our Children’s Services are supported with cross party support and this inspection recognised the high aspirations of political leaders and officers across the council to make sure that every child and young person from Sheffield has a strong sense of belonging and excellent experiences.”

Hidden Body Damages Hidden beneath cosmetic damages may be more sinister structural sins.

The storm’s high velocity winds and flying debris can subtly distort your vehicle’s body.

Electronics System Corruption Both conventional and electric cars house complex electrical systems, which are susceptible to storminduced damage. For EVs, compromises to the battery pose a particular risk.

Tyre and Wheel Damage Storm debris can cause unseen tyre punctures or impair wheel alignment, posing significant driving hazards.

Decoding the Hidden with Preventive Measures Being aware of potential unseen damages is the first step; proactive measures can help mitigate these dangers.

Wyatt suggests the following steps: 1 Thorough Inspection: Make a post-storm habit of inspecting your vehicle meticulously, focusing on both visible and potential hidden damages.

2 Regular Maintenance: Routine servicing can detect and repair most storm-induced damages.

3 Roadway Prudence: Post-storm roads can be treacherous. Driving slowly and avoiding flooded areas can prevent substantial vehicle damage.

have improved since the previous inspection in 2019. Services for children in need of help and protection are now good, the experiences of children in care are now outstanding and services for care leavers are good.

Senior leaders know what else they need to do to make sure that services for all children and young people continue to get even better. There are lots of great services in Sheffield that help children when difficulties arise. This means when families have small problems, they get help quickly so that they do not become big ones.

This means that more children can continue to live safely and happily at home with their families.

When children are at risk of serious harm, social workers act very quickly to make sure they are kept as safe as possible.”

Ofsted praised the Council’s approach to making sure that the views of children in care and care leavers inform service development to help ensure that leaders get things right for children. Ofsted also saw how services in Sheffield for children in care were improved by the “impressive Youth Voice and Influence Service workers” who are care experienced young people who actively and influentially hold senior leaders in Children’s Services to account.

Councillor Dale added: “I am confident that we will continue to improve until all our services provide an outstanding service for children and families in the city. We are determined to do this and it’s reassuring for us to know we will be doing that based on this positive, well-received Ofsted outcome.”

Northern Powergrid has launched its annual winter campaign to help people across the region be prepared and know what to do to reduce the impact on them and their loved ones if their power supply is ever affected.

Over the coming weeks the electricity network operator, which powers everyday life for 8 million customers across 3.9 million homes and businesses in the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, is emailing important advice and guidance directly to more than 2.9 million customers including over 550,000 of its Priority Services Members.

Northern Powergrid is encouraging local people to take a few minutes to bookmark its ‘be prepared’ page and power cut map and to add 105, the national number to report a power cut or electricity emergency, to their phones so they can stay informed and support their family, friends and neighbours.

It is also sharing free energy saving advice, reminding its Priority Services Members of the additional advice and support available and encouraging those who may be more vulnerable in power cut due to their medical or personal circumstances to take action and join its free Priority Services Membership. Anyone interested can find out

As part of the campaign the network operator has invested in digital and radio advertising and is set to provide a range of key partners, including local authorities, community groups, MPs and other local resilience organisations, with a dedicated pack in the coming weeks so they can help spread the word through their channels.

The campaign, launched to coincide with the end of British Summer Time (BST) and clocks going back, will run until next spring with two phases.

The first phase will run until mid-December and focus on helping people be winter ready and the remainder will ask people ‘do you know what to do in a power cut?’ in a bid to help more people take action if their power is ever affected by a local network issue, severe weather or a wider electricity emergency in the future.

The campaign complements a campaign launched last week aimed at encouraging more people to join its free Priority Services Membership and is part of the network operator’s commitment to ensuring its customers receive the advice, guidance and support they need before, during, and after a power cut.

Rotherham remembers – Armistice Day and Remembrance Day 2023 Rotherham will come together to remember its fallen servicemen and women from past and recent conflicts this week.

Armistice Day is marked every year and commemorates the official cessation of hostilities in the First World War at 11am on 11 November 1918.

The Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Robert Taylor, will lay a wreath at All Saints’ Square in Rotherham on Saturday 11th November and mark the twominute silence on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Members of the public are invited to attend this short ceremony and join the two-minute silence.

Rotherham will come together to remember its fallen service members from past and recent conflicts on Sunday 12th November for Remembrance Sunday. This year’s event will once again be held entirely outdoors and take place at Clifton Park.

The parade will depart from outside the Garden House, Clifton Park at 10.35am and make its way through the park towards the Fun Park, past the Bandstand and down to the Cenotaph War Memorial, with uniformed groups, veterans and key organisations taking part. The parade will arrive at the Cenotaph War Memorial at approximately 10.50am.

From 10.55am, a service will take place led by Reverend Canon Phil Batchford from Rotherham Minster, with the Act of Remembrance, national twominute silence and wreath laying at the Cenotaph War Memorial.

Mayor Councillor Robert Taylor will lay a wreath on behalf of the borough. Members of the public are advised to lay their wreaths after the official event has concluded.

On conclusion of the service, from 11.25am the parade will make its way back up to the Garden House where the Mayor and Deputy-Lieutenant will take the salute.

Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Robert Taylor, said: “I would like to encourage residents to come along and pay their respects to our fallen servicemembers as Rotherham comes together as one community to remember.

“The Armistice Day ceremony

and the Remembrance Parade will provide an important reminder of the ultimate sacrifice made by those who have served.

“It is an honour to be part of these annual events and I feel an immense sense of pride to be able to lay a wreath on behalf of the borough.

"I would like to thank the armed forces community for assisting the council in organising this year’s events.”

For the Remembrance Parade residents can use the car park in Clifton Park that is accessed via Doncaster Road. No public parking is available at the Museum Car Park for the duration of the event, from 8am until midday.

Free parking is available at council owned off-street car parks in the town centre on Saturdays for those wishing to attend the short Armistice Day event.

SURVEY REVEALS PUBS SUPPORT NEEDED Look out for snowflakes at Peaks The new figures demonstrate the importance of the Chancellor extending the hospitality sector relief and freezing the multiplier at the Autumn Statement, with 38% of hospitality venues failing to make a profit.

The survey, conducted by the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA), British Institute of Innkeeping (BII), Hospitality Ulster and UKHospitality, reveals Government action on business rates is viewed as a top priority by 60% of respondents, up 16% from August.

The survey also reveals that business optimism has slumped to just 29%, down 10 percentage points from the summer.

A joint spokesperson for the trade bodies said: “These figures lay bare the enormous impact inaction at the Autumn Statement would have on the hospitality sector. Pubs, restaurants, hotels, coffee shops, to name a few, will fall victim to a

significant business rates bill, if relief expires and rates are hiked with inflation.

“Reducing investment and cutting staffing levels are the last thing venues want to do. In fact, they want to do the opposite, but their hands will be tied if rates increase to such an extent in April.

“Businesses are only able to absorb endless cost rises for so long and yet more pressure in the form of business rates will only force them to consider whether this is passed onto consumers.

“The Government must listen to the concerns of hospitality businesses, as the nation’s third largest employer, and extend the hospitality sector relief and freeze the business rates multiplier at the Autumn Statement, and as well as taking steps to reduce the overall tax burden on the sector in relation to business rates, VAT and excise duty. These businesses are at the heart of communities and high

streets across the country, employing millions, generating economic growth and driving investment across our cities, towns and villages.

“Our economy cannot grow if hospitality cannot grow. The Government must act immediately to underpin this growth and ensure our pubs and hospitality venues survive.”

The survey also highlights the double whammy of rising businesses costs and more cautious consumers, with budgets stretched thin due to the cost-of-living crisis. There has been an 18% rise in businesses noticing consumers purchasing fewer drinks when they go out, with 72% of respondents reporting the number of drinks purchased having decreased slightly (55%) or significantly (17%).

Combined with energy bills being 60% higher year-on-year and record food and drink inflation, 55% of respondents said they had not raised menu prices by as much as their own cost increases.

part of the seasonal decorations at the shopping centre.

THE BLADES ARE UP & RUNNING The Blades are up and running in the Premier League and deservedly so, following an actionpacked afternoon that ended with Ollie Norwood firing home a penalty in front of the Kop to secure the spoils.

Cameron Archer gave United the lead on 72 minutes after Paul Heckingbottom’s side had dominated the second period, only for Jean-Ricner Bellegarde to restore parity as the clocked ticked down.

But following a corner, United kept the ball alive and substitute Fábio Silva was adjudged to have fouled George Baldock

by referee Robert Jones, with the decision standing despite a lengthy VAR check. From 12 yards, Norwood did the rest!

United made two changes for the showdown against Wolves, with fit-again Baldock starting for the first time since early September and Archer replacing Slimane, as the Tunisian and McAtee dropped to bench.

On a soggy afternoon in the steel city, Wolves started brightly and after a couple of earlier breaks down the left, Semedo fired an effort over from a promising

position, before Baldock was cautioned for a foul on Kalajdžić. Hwang and Semedo then combined on the visitors right, but Foderingham was alert and tipped over at the expense of a corner.

Hwang was causing constant problems and looked to have found an opening for Aït-Nouri, but the wing-back somehow fired wide with the goal at his mercy.

Unfortunately, the last action of note in the opening 45, was Brewster limping off, he was replaced by McAtee.

United were quickly out of the blocks in the second half with

Archer curling over from Hamer’s pass, before Dawson crudely halted the progress of McAtee and was shown a yellow.

Kicking towards the Kop, with the home faithful right behind the players, Hamer fired over from a well-worked short corner, as former loanee Doyle was booked for hauling down the advancing Bogle.

And on 72 minutes, United got their rewards as ARCHER seized the opportunity following a fortunate bounce after McAtee challenged for a loose ball and the former Villa man took aim fired past Sa with the aid of

the underside of the crossbar to spark wild celebrations amongst players, fans and management alike.

17 minutes elapsed without any incident of note, but with 60 seconds of the 90 remaining, Wolves equalised as BELLEGARDE fired past Foderingham on the turn from Traoré’s cross with the aid of a deflection off Trusty, but United were angry as they had twice attempted to make a substitution with Hamer clearly suffering.

After the goal, he was replaced by Osborn, with the yellow card brandished to Hamer,

boss Heckingbottom and lastly Lester for their protests.

But deep into added time, in the 100th minute following a prolonged VAR check, the Blades finally secured a first win of the campaign, with NORWOOD smashing into the roof of the net after Fábio Silva had made with contact with Baldock as United kept a last-gasp corner alive.

It was the last kick of the game, as referee Jones blew the final whistle when Wolves restarted proceedings to spark fantastic celebrations.

Rovers boss Grant McCann was left disappointed that Rovers could not book their place in the second round of the Emirates FA Cup after being held to a draw by Accrington Stanley.

“I’m disappointed not to win the game, given how good we were in

the pitch, we got back into it and then it became quite an open game.

“Haks had probably the best opportunity with the header, but we have to say that Viktor has made a couple of good saves.

“I was really pleased with the character from the team. Georgie Kelly got

his finish and the game was in the balance after that.

“We’ve got fight, we didn’t show that on Sunday and we can’t hide away from that. It wasn’t easy to come into that game, so I was pleased we were able to come away with something.”

Although disappointed with the Owls’ 1-0 defeat to Bristol City, Danny Röhl is pleased with the fight his side is showing after four games in charge.

Wednesday skipper Barry Bannan was shown a red card at Ashton Gate and the Robins later capitalised on their oneman advantage when Rob Dickie poked home the winner.

There were many positives to take from a Wednesday perspective despite defeat, and Röhl was proud of the endeavor shown by his players.

“We changed the shape after the red card to create more chances to score and it was good to see how good we were protecting our goal.

“We will prepare during the week and we will be ready again. We had a belief and a good conviction about what we can do.

“All four games you see there was a turning point in the match and we’ve been unlucky sometimes, but in the end the process is in the right direction and this is what we need.”
