INDEPENDENT TRADERS POPPING UP IN MOOR MARKET Pop-up shop programmers “Common People” are opening two new stalls in Sheffield’s Moor Market as hireable spaces for new retailers. In collaboration with Sheffield City Council, the organisation hopes to encourage new independent businesses to take space in the Moor Market, try out trading and grow in a vibrant environment. The Community Interest Company (CIC), which runs a successful pop-up in the Winter Garden hosting 24 businesses each year, is hoping to attract

new shoppers to the Moor Market by giving a range of new businesses the chance to trial the space. Councillor Leigh Bramall, cabinet member for business, skills and development at Sheffield City Council, said: “As Sheffield shoppers will know, Common People has a well-earned reputation for turning empty units in the city into vibrant shops bursting with original, locallyproduced clothing, crafts, jewellery and more. “I am really excited to see their individual touch brought to the Moor

Market, especially in the run-up to Christmas when people are looking for gifts with that individual and personal touch.” At the same time, representatives from Common People will also curate the Pop-up Pantry section of the Moor Market, which gives food producers a chance to sell their wares for just £30 a day. Director and Curator of Common People CIC, Felicity Hoy, will be heading up the new venture in the Moor Market. She said: “This space is

part of wider project in the city centre that helps and encourages small businesses and selfemployment to grow and flourish. “Without projects like this, the transition between start-up and premise owner is daunting. “We hope to try and bridge that gap and encourage people to take on retail spaces in the future. “With the Moor Market, we hope to open the space to a different demographic and inspire more alternative businesses to take a space and add to the vibrant variety that is

already here.” The first of the new popup shops, Sheffield-based Dack Images Clothing and Design, opened a couple of weeks ago, selling quirky art, gifts and clothing. Common People Enterprise promotes, encourages and supports independent, creative and social businesses in Sheffield. Meanwhile, several new stores have recently opened on The Moor, in the vicinity of the Moor Market, where a new retail and leisure complex is also currently under development.
