WALKS FOR THE ENVIRONMENT Walks for all ages and abilities from dawn to dusk are on offer next week as part of Sheffield’s Environment Weeks. For early birds, there’s the ‘Warbling at the Brook’ guided dawn chorus walk on Saturday (14 May) around Wyming, off Redmires Road, but you’ll have to book early for this popular event. (Contact Hannah Wittram on 0114 263 4335). Later on Saturday morning the ‘Highscream’ walk just for women will begin at 10.30, starting at Bamford Railway Station. The 13 km walk will take in the views around Shatton,

There’s a chance to explore a fascinating part of Sheffield’s industrial heritage on a ‘Water Walk’ along the Tinsley Canal on Sunday (15 May) at 10am. (Contact Stella Longden on 0114 269 4698). Join the ‘Get Walking, Keep Walking’ group on Sunday for a gentle stroll across the city – or just part of it. Starting from Arbourthorne tram stop at 10am, the walk will take in the canal, River Don, Ponderosa, Weston Park and finish at the Botanical Gardens. (Contact Helen

FULL WEEKLY SCHEDULE - CENTRE A walk through the hidden gem of Tongue Gutter in Parson Cross will aim to find the hidden wildlife that lives in the area on Wednesday starting at 10.30am from Parson Cross Park Pavilion. (Contact Michael Senkans on 0114 246 4989). There’s a chance to learn more about the ancient village of High Bradfield on Wednesday evening, with a stroll from the Old Horns Inn at 7pm. Thursday (19 May) evening sees the popular bluebell walk through Woolley Woods from Meadowhall at 6pm, along sections of the disused railway line to Ecclesfield and returning through the beautiful bluebells

in the Woods. Meet at Meadowhall Interchange car park at 6pm. A four mile walk to explore Burngreave’s green spaces begins at 7pm on Thursday from outside the Mangla Restaurant on Spital Hill. The walk takes in Parkwood Springs, Roe Wood and Burngreave Cemetery. (Contact Neill Schofield on 07771 564883). A free 52 page programme, featuring over 200 events is now available from libraries, First Point and housing offices, health centres, Tourist Information Centre and many public buildings.
