Sheffield is to honour one of this country’s most popular stage and film actors next weekend. Local hero, Sean Bean is to be inducted into the city’s prestigious ‘walk of fame’ on Saturday (16 January) at 12.30pm. Sean will formally become a Sheffield Legend and join internationally-renown celebrities including Michael Palin, Seb Coe, Gordon Banks, Joe Cocker, Michael Vaughan and Def Leppard, who were all either born in or had strong associations with the city. Sean was born in the Handsworth area of Sheffield, the son of Rita and Brian Bean, in April 1959. His first successful role was his portrayal of Richard Sharpe in the British television series ‘Sharpe’. Since then he has become well known internationally for his roles as Boromir in ‘The Lord of the Rings’, James Bond’s adversary

I am very proud to welcome Sean into the city’s walk

Crystal Peaks shopping centre, Sheffield, finished 2009 on a high, with visitor numbers up by 4.72% in December 2009 compared to the same month in 2008. I told my husband that I would be home by midnight ... “I promise!” Well, the hours passed and the champagne was going down way too easy. Around 3 a.m., drunk as a skunk, I headed for home. Just as I got in the door, the cuckoo clock in the hall started up and cuckooed 3 times. Quickly, realizing he’d probably wake up, I cuckooed another 9 times. I was really proud of myself for coming up with such a quickwitted solution (even when smashed), in order to escape a possible conflict with him. The next morning my husband asked me what time I got in, and I told him 12 o’clock. He didn’t seem disturbed at all. Whew! Got away with that one! Then he said we need a new cuckoo clock. When I asked him why, he said, “Well, last night our clock cuckooed three times, then said, “Oh shit!!”, cuckooed 4 more times, cleared it’s throat, cuckooed another 3 times, giggled, cuckooed twice more, and then farted.”

CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, is this weekcalling on pub goers to donate to its ‘Consumers v. OFT Pub Market Ruling’ Campaign Fund to assist in campaigning for a sustainable future for UK pubs, through reform of the beer tie. The beer tie, as currently operated by large pub companies, forces publicans to buy beer at around 50 pence a pint more than they would pay on the open market. These inflated costs are passed onto pub goers through higher prices, poor facilities in pubs and the closure of 7 pubs a day. Reform of the beer tie to allow effective competition between pubs is long overdue. On December 22nd 2009, CAMRA issued a legal challenge to the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) via the Competition Appeals Tribunal after the OFT rejected CAMRA’s super-complaint in October, which focused on high prices, pub closures and restricted choice. Having lodged the appeal, CAMRA is relying on donations from pub goers to fund its ongoing campaign, and has set up a new website to receive donations at www. camraappeal.org.uk CAMRA will be supported in its appeal by Edwin Coe LLP, and Europe Economics. Mike Benner, CAMRA Chief Executive, said:
‘We are today calling for pub goers to support CAMRA’s campaign to secure a fair deal for consumers by donating to our campaign to ensure the beer tie works in a fair and competitive manner. ‘CAMRA has found that a lack of competition in the UK pub market is costing consumers £2.5 billion a year, as well as harming the pub-going experience through reduced quality and choice. The lack of effective competition is also a key reason why 7 pubs a day are closing, causing irreparable damage to local communities. ‘Regrettably the OFT did not examine competition in local pub markets which is why we have taken the decision to appeal. The OFT’s assertion that consumers benefit from a good deal of competition and choice in the pub sector is in our view not supported by the available evidence. ‘CAMRA has pledged funds to the appeal process and is urging consumers to contribute to ensure our campaign stands the best chance of success. This is an historic opportunity for pub-goers to stand up to unfair conditions in the UK pub market and to assist the Office of Fair Trading in understanding the scale of harm to consumers.

IS PROGRESSIVE ROCK COMING BACK TO MAINSTREAM?
Seargent Peppers could possibly be the album which heralded the development of Progressive Rock which started in the late 60s and carries on even to this day. The Nice were possibly the first band to achieve any meaningful commercial recognition and they are best remembered for their version of Leonard Bernsteins ‘America’ famously burning an American flag on stage at the Albert Hall in front of various politicians and dignitaries. Around the same time we saw the emergence of King Crimson, Atomic Rooster, Camel and other lesser known and forgotten experimental bands. The movement really started to take off in the early 70s with the formation of the worlds first ‘Supergroup’ Emerson Lake and Palmer and other bands such as Focus, Yes, featuring the extraordinary Rick Wakeman, Genesis etc. Progressive Rock had a massive following, predominantly male, and these bands had huge shows and sold millions of albums. A concept album, The Six Wives of Henry VIII, by Rick Wakeman, sold an amazing 13 million copies and it was actually performed live for the first time at Hampton Court last year. Rick is to take another concept album from that era on the road this year, the monumental Journey to the Centre of the Earth. The development of this genre carried on with the bands developing a more commercial feel such as Rush and Asia. Biggest of all were ELP with a massive roadshow. They carried their own stage, had a 94 kilowatt fully quadraphonic PA system and a road crew of 120 eventually expanding this to include a full symphony orchestra which played to, what was then, a record audience in Canada of 72000 people at the Olympic stadium in Montreal. Pink Floyd were probably the band with widest appeal releasing one of the biggest selling albums ever, Dark Side of the Moon, and they maintained a presence in the charts which has lasted to this day. Each of these bands have made limited comebacks playing to large and enthusiastic audiences worldwide over the last 30 years or so. During the 1990s we saw bands developing such as Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree and Spocks Beard that have developed a large following and very respectable
wordwide sales and they have largely drawn their inspiration from the bands of the late 60s and 70s developing highly complex and technically adventurous music. From a less musically advanced but commercially acceptable perspective we have the very popular Muse who seem to going from strength to strength with a massive and spectacular stageshow. Last year Genesis re-formed for a world tour and played to an audience of 500000 in Rome and the news is that they may tour again this year. I was very interested to see that appearing at the High Voltage Festival on July 25th in Victoria Park will be Wishbone Ash, Argent, Uriah Heep, Asia, Focus and headlining on the Sunday night Emerson Lake and Palmer. This festival would not be taking place unless the promoters were sure that the audience was there. Commentators and music critics have regularly pronounced Progressive Rock dead and buried however it simply will not go away. We never really saw it in clubland as the level of musicianship required to play the music was generally extraordinary and the stage sets, lights, PA etc were well outside the budget of ordinary mortals. Tracks could last as long as 30 minutes and Prog. Rock and Bingo would never have made happy bedfellows in addition to which the traditional audiences in clubland were not usually very receptive. Nevertheless evidence suggests that it has not only maintained an audience over the years but it seems that audience still has the commercial will to attract the attention of major festival promoters. In their time the Progressive Rock bands that formed, developed and prospered in the UK ruled the world. They are walking amongst us once again and personally I can’t wait for July 25th.

A SAD LOSS It is with great regret that announce the death of a real clubman, Mr Bellhouse himself, Eric Davis who passed away last Thursday. For me this man was a great amongst club men, a man who gave 150 percent to his club and was a very dedicated committee man for approx 50years as con sec and lately the club president. DELPHIC ON YOUR The hottest Indie outfit of 2010 arrive in our fair city on Saturday the 16th of January, performing a headline gig at The Leadmill. Delphic’s debut album ‘Acolyte’ is complete and was released on the 11th January, it was preceded by their third single and superior slice of synth-based wizadry ‘Doubt’ released last week. A track that helped get the band spotted in the early days, ‘Doubt’ has become a firm favourite already having been Zane Lowe’s ‘The hottest record in the world right now’ and Greg James record of the week on Radio 1. Splicing New Order’s patent Mancunian brand of indie disco intellectualism with the unbound, arms aloft euphoria of Orbital or the Chemical Brothers. Muse gone minimal, or Kasabian on Kompakt, a debut album of ecstatic everyman anthems equally at home on a main stage or lost out in the middle of the floor. Produced with the Berlinbased techno émigré Ewan Pearson, it was recorded mostly in Pearson’s Berlin studio, the city’s flourishing techno scene bleeding into the crisp grooves but never to the detriment of the band’s emotive songwriting. Whether on the explosively percussive ‘Clarion Call’, the lost longing of ‘Submission’, the sheer contagiousness of ‘Halcyon’ or the epic scope of the title track, Delphic consistently demonstrate their ability to write massive songs is equal to their ability to build bangin’ beats. “With a lot of dance albums, you search out the singles but the rest is all a bit samey and boring,” says Matt, “We wrote the album as a whole and weren’t afraid to lower the tempos and concentrate on the songs.” On stage, their glorious hardwired gene pool of anthemic indie and stadium techno comes into its own, driving along like a perfectly pitched DJ set and where other bands pause to sip their riders between songs, Delphic slip in hypnotic driving techno interludes that turn any gigs into a rave. Delphic have recently appeared on Later...with Jools Holland, have been announced as the runners up for the Brits Critics Choice Award 2010 and are longlisted for the BBC Sound of 2010 poll. OK Go are back on tour in the New Year with more catchy and eccentric material. You remember the Video for “Here It Goes Again” featuring an elaborately choreographed dance on treadmills. This video was viewed by over one million people on the media site YouTube in the first six days. As of now, the original video upload for “Here It Goes Again” has been viewed over 48 million times, putting it in 42nd place for the most views of any video and 29th place for most viewed music video as well as the 7th most favorite video and the top favorite music video of all time on YouTube. OK Go are originally from Chicago, now residing in Los Angeles, California. The band’s unique part-glam, part-geek rock fashion sense has also gotten a lot of attention. They are known for combining loud, clashing patterns and wearing waistcoats, sweater vests, ties, dress shirts, suspenders, dress pants, and an unusual amount of jewelry, particularly brooches. Some have noted similarities between their style and that of Weezer, and They Might Be Giants, but the band have said in interviews that their influences were Oscar Wilde, David Bowie, “Republican assholes”, and “other people too wealthy to know how crazy they look”. The band also served as the house band for public radio program This American Life on the show’s fifth anniversary tour. The band performed an early predecessor to their wildly successful music videos-a choreographed dance to the song “C-C-C-Cinnamon Lips” created for the cable access show Chic-a-Go-Go. Ira Glass, the show’s host, wrote their first official bio, calling them “living catnip” and describing their songs as “part indie rock, part stadium rock, part straight up pop with the occasional whiff of Weezer or The Cars or Elliott Smith”. GOOD EG! Mark EG is a UK new music soldier, with original production talent constantly searching for new sounds. He is responsible for some of the most ground breaking releases in the techno world over the last 10 years but also has cemented his place at the top of the global hard dance movement. Mark has become widely acclaimed for his intense stage presence, as well as his outrageous antics behind the decks. His ability to cross over into different music movements is simply unrivalled. Mark EG constantly searches for new sounds, original production talent and cutting edge club music. He is at the forefront of the UK’s new music movement. But he refuses to be labeled. And this sometimes chameleon-like addiction to music has held Mark responsible not only for some of the most ground breaking releases in the hard techno world over the last few years (The Anxious), but also partly for the underground explosion of both hard trance and hardstyle through the UK. Mark’s tastes span back to the early 1980’s, through Detroit techno, Chicago house, electro, acid house, hard trance and hard techno. Throughout the years he’s become widely acclaimed for his intense stage presence, as well as his outrageous antics behind the decks, spanning several different musical scenes and movements. His most notable achievements have included his massive popularity in the Serbian/Bosnian and Croatian techno scene; his almost cult-like status within the UK hard trance and hardstyle movements; the near sonic domination of the Canadian rave scene; his infiltration of UKs hard dance scene; and of course who could forget his place in the UK hardcore scene where Mark has been a well respected part of the furniture for the last fifteen years - playing regularly at all the main events such as Dreamscape, Helter Skelter, Hardcore Heaven and Slammin Vinyl. The last few years have also seen Mark playing at some of the biggest outdoor events on the world stage such as Dance Valley, Impulz and Q Dance. And of course there’s his recent Blackout Audio FM techno radio show, which took over from Carl Cox on Moscow’s Megapolis FM last year and is now broadcast nationally in the Ukraine. Most recently he has been voted ‘UK’s Best Hard Dance DJ’ at the Hardcore
Heaven Awards and for his downright lunacy he received the Party Animal award at the London’s Hard Dance Awards. Its also well documented he was instrumental in the A+R for 90s giant Bonzai Records and edited cult music magazines such as Wax and Eternity. What a way to start 2010! It seems that the stereotypical Sheffield band nights, which formally consisted of Arctic Monkeys ‘sound-a-likes’, Pulp imitators and Human League imposters have been left behind in the noughties. A path has been cleared for a new revolution of talented musicians ready to take over in the turn of the decade. About Time! The Stockroom, on 9th January played host to three class live acts, showcasing the sheer amount of talent Sheffield has to offer. First to hit the stage were the Head Riders; a recently formed accomplished fourpiece who opened with ‘Psycho’, a daring upbeat number. This set the tone for a great night of music. Full of foot tapping rhythms and gritty vocals, there was an edginess to the band that couldn’t have gone unnoticed. The quartet went on to perform a dynamic set list which included ‘Lady Snow’ and ‘Getting’ Me’, all of which aroused the audiences curiosity. Their bizarre song titles ‘No Money, No Honey’ can be forgiven due to their boyish charm and relaxed stage presence. A

It’s great to see this formally bootlegged album see a proper release at last. It’s of they’re infamous live show at Reading in 1992. Ranked #1 in Kerrang Magazine’s ‘100 Gigs That Shook The World’ and voted as ‘Nirvana’s #1 Greatest Moment’ by fans in an NME poll Nirvana’s historic August 30th 1992 headlining appearance at the UK’s Reading Festival is one of the most bootlegged concerts in the annals of rock’n’roll. Now, fans finally have an opportunity to own a pristine copy of that entire performance. While the show’s centrepiece was a performance of nearly the entire ‘Nevermind’ tracklist, also noteworthy were early performances of three as yet unrecorded songs which wouldn’t be released until 2 years later on ‘In Utero’ [‘All Apologies’, ‘Dumb’, and in its first ever public performance, ‘Tourette’s’]. The career-spanning setlist also reached back to the band’s 1989 Sub Pop debut album, ‘Bleach,’ for ‘Blew,’ ‘About A Girl,’ ‘School,’ ‘Negative Creep’ and even further back to the mid-’80s for ‘Spank Thru’; plus tracks that would appear in studio form on the ‘Incesticide’ compilation later in the year: ‘Aneurysm,’ ‘Been A Son’ and ‘Sliver.’ Additionally, the band played a pair of beloved covers by two bands that helped shape the formative Nirvana sound – ‘The Money Will Roll Right In’ by Fang and ‘D-7’ by The Wipers). This is quite simply……….Brilliant! The one huge problem is……….they’re only releasing it (for now) on double vinyl and it’s a whopping £33!! If I were you, wait a short while and then you’ll see this released on cd. Even though I must admit, there is something that tiny bit extra special about the sound of vinyl, but can we all be bothered to dust of our decks?
We’re not great lovers of the TV show X-Factor here at Drag as you no doubt already know. But you can’t escape the fact that Leona Lewis, who won two years ago, does have an extremely perfect voice. A little dull, personality wise, is a criticism she often gets, but vocally she blows all the other contestants who have ever been on that show away. Alexandra Burke on the other hand was a loser on that show a couple of years ago, but last year came back and won the thing. Now, even though she has a really good voice, you aint ever gonna be able to put her up against Leona. She’s just too good. So the marketing for her was always gonna be an interesting one. Her mother was actually in the band Soul 11 Soul, so that’s a promising start. Her first single was the classic ‘Hallelujah’ and got her the No.1 spot last Christmas (sadly just beating the far superior version re-released by Jeff Buckley). That song was a very Leona Lewis type affair though, so were we due more of that kind of music? Well thankfully no. Her last single ‘Bad Boys’ and this new one are…………. well, if anything they’re a kind of British Beyonce with a bit more pop thrown in. I think this is a good move. This particular tune starts with her vocal and an electro-pop synth riff and then relentlessly gives you chorus after chorus. It’s fairly cool in parts and even though very commercial, its not too cheesy. The video is an all female American football look (cant play that in heels, let alone broken ones!). If you like pop then you’ll probably like this. This is the kind of song that you’ll probably see her perform on most of the weekend entertainment shows but not really shows such as Jools Holland for example.
talented, musically intelligent group of born and bred Sheffield boys, Head Riders were an impressive opening act. A band full of potential. ‘Y’all, we’re from the deep south… of Yorkshire.’ There is so much to say about the Wet Nuns we literally do not know where to start. Maybe the tacky American accents? Or the sheer eccentricity of their stage presence? The peculiar duo morphed into geniuses throughout the set; the distorted melodies of mixed country and blues were far from what we had expected. Embedded with scratchy guitar riffs, their performance was nothing short of unbelievable - literally, the audience were in a state of shock! Playing several songs, ‘All The Young Girls’ being a particular crowd pleaser, their popularity was shown by the singing along from the expanding audience, along with a fierce outbreak of a mosh pit. This reflected the spontaneity of the deadly duo. One thing’s for sure, the beautifully dark and horrifically twisted band that is the Wet Nuns are a work of pure brilliance. You won’t find a better band from Sheffield, Alabama! Headlining the show was the hugely anticipated Violet May. As the last act to grace the stage, there was a lot to
live up to, as the two previous bands were so strong. This was no obstacle for the polished performers who delivered an electrifying set, stealing the hearts of everyone in the audience. They really did live up to the near impossible expectations. Described by Alan McGee from Zani as a ‘world class band...’ Violet May proved why they are tipped to have a great year ahead of them. Talk about starting as you mean to go on! The performance was flawless from the five-piece group, as was the sophisticated sound they made. A familiarity and bond between the musicians created an effortless vibe, especially felt in ‘This Crowd’ which combined suave lyrics as well as head banging bass drum beats. The charisma from the front man Chris McClure was also very evident – dancing with the audience whilst still delivering vocally isn’t something you see everyday. Violet May smashed the boundaries of ‘a typically Sheffield Sounding band’ which is sure to get the band a huge amount of recognition. Overall, a brilliant night of local music felt by all.

Sheffield Wednesday Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Alan Irvine as first team manager with immediate effect. Former Preston North End boss Irvine, 51, steered the Deepdale side to a top six finish in the Championship last year and has signed a threeand-a-half-year contract at Hillsborough. Following a thorough recruitment process, involving a number of very strong candidates for the manager’s position, the club is confident that they have secured the best possible candidate to drive forward Sheffield Wednesday’s footballing operations, both out of our short term position and also in the longer term. Sheffield Wednesday manager, Alan Irvine, said: “I am delighted to take up the position of manager at Sheffield Wednesday. It is a club with great traditions and a brilliant outlook for the future. While the league table shows us that there is a lot of hard work in front of us between now and the end of the current season, it is a challenge I am relishing and I believe the squad here at Hillsborough is more than capable of pulling away from the current situation at the bottom of the Championship. “Sheffield Wednesday has made excellent progress off the pitch in the past 12 months and it is now my job to make sure that progress is mirrored on the pitch. I am really looking forward to starting work with the players and I can’t wait to get out on the training pitch to start preparing for the vital matches we have coming up this month.” Irvine became Preston North End’s manager in November 2007, after leaving Premier League side, Everton, where he was assistant manager to David Moyes for five years. Irvine took charge of the Lilywhites when they were in 21st place in the Championship and guided the Lancashire side to safety and a 15th place finish to the 2007/08 campaign. His first full season at Deepdale saw Preston finish sixth in the Championship, qualifying for the 2008/09 play-offs. He left Preston on December 29 after two years in the job at Deepdale. Sheffield Wednesday chairman, Lee Strafford, said: “It was essential for us to secure the best possible candidate to revive the team’s fortunes this season but, more importantly, in the long term. New Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine has spoken of his delight having been appointed in the hot seat at Hillsborough. Irvine has signed a three and a half year contract with Wednesday and his appointment comes just two weeks after his shock departure from previous employers, Preston North End. He told Wednesday Player: “Everybody in football knows that this is a fantastic club and a club with enormous potential. When you’re at other clubs, you always keep an eye on clubs like Sheffield Wednesday because of the tradition and history of the club. They have fantastic support and this is a great opportunity for me. “It came as a massive shock to lose my job at Preston because I think most people feel that I did a good job in the time that I was there. I’m not too sure exactly why that happened but fortunately for me, this opportunity came along and it wasn’t an opportunity that I could turn down. There are very many top quality managers out of work at the moment so competition for any job available is very tough and I am delighted to be here.” After successfully maintaining Preston’s Championship status having joined the club in the thick of a relegation battle in November 2007, Irvine steered the Lilywhites to the playoffs the following year. That impressive pedigree prompted the Owls to make a play for his services after he recently lost his post at Deepdale. And Irvine’s immediate ambitions at Hillsborough match his achievements over the Pennines in his first two seasons at PNE. He explained: “The short term is simple - keep this club in the Championship. We need to have a huge turnaround in terms of the form for the second half of the season and we need the wins. “So short term, it’s exactly the same as when I went in at Preston. I joined them when they were in danger of relegation
and I managed to get them out of trouble and get Preston safe with four games to go. I would be absolutely delighted if I could do the same again here. “Longer term, obviously it is to take this club into the top half of the table and compete at that end. Again, if we could replicate what was done in my second season at Preston, I would be delighted.” Given his experience at Deepdale, Irvine is fully conversant with the requirements of pulling away from relegation danger. The Owls, of course, had a huge ‘six-pointer’ scheduled for this weekend hosting fellow strugglers Peterborough, but the new gaffer is not overly concerned at losing that game to the inclement weather conditions. His reasoning is that the time between now and his maiden game at the helm - next Saturday at Barnsley - will give him more valuable time on the training ground with his new charges. Irvine added: “The Peterborough game was going to be huge given its significance and what I would have been hoping for was the response you usually get when a new manager comes in. But you can’t bank on that, you’d much rather trust the work you are doing on the training ground to get a good result on a Saturday. “So my feeling as a coach is that the ways things have happened with the cold weather, it could be a good thing because it will give us more time to get the preparation right for the game against Barnsley.” And closing on Wednesday’s current plight in the Championship bottom three, Irvine added: “First and foremost, everybody has to understand exactly where we are. It’s no use thinking ‘we’re a big club and we’ll get out of it’. We have to understand we are in a very precarious position. “You have to make sure you are very difficult to beat. I’m a purist by nature, I like open, attractive football but right now
at this moment in time, we have to play winning football and we have to do whatever it is required to win games. “I know that there are some very good players here and we have to assess those players. I know the players but I don’t have a working knowledge so we will see what can be done within the financial constraints but the most important thing is to concentrate on what we’ve got.”

The new era starts here. As the dust settles on Alan Irvine’s coronation there is an air of division amongst Wednesdayites as to whether the manager is fit for the crown. Personally, I think we have got lucky on this occasion for a number of reasons; he has an appropriate number of syllables in his name for a whole host of songs, he is Scottish, which always helps, and he has the most proven track record for the task in hand. Darren Ferguson may be a more sexy appointment for the team who jettisoned Irvine but right know we need sensible and reliable trousers rather than hot pants. Anybody who is writing Irvine off before a ball is kicked is a fool and I challenge their intelligence. Put simply, he has achieved what we need to achieve, very recently. Teams in the north west (more significantly in the shadow of Manchester) are beginning a trend of believing that they should be higher in the football world than God intended and ruthlessly sacking any manager who can’t get them there. Some call it ambitious, I call it pompous. Alan Irvine may well call it something else slightly more unprintable but either way, he is now with a club with genuine claims for higher status and let’s hope he rubs a few noses in it on the way there. January is epitomising the calm before the storm. After a lacklustre and generally forgettable cup tie and with snow stopping play, this month is about to explode in a frenzy of action on Saturday at Barnsley and not die down for a good while yet. Its going to be a rollercoaster and Alan Irvine is at the controls. Don’t look down…

AT HALF-WAY MARK Crowds at Coca-Cola Football League matches have risen by more than 3% during the first half of the 2009/10 season. More than 8.6m fans have attended matches during the first five months of the league season at an average of 10,441 fans per match, compared to 10,101 at the same stage twelve months ago. These encouraging figures were boosted by a December fixture programme that attracted the highest average crowd (11,411) for League matches since 1959/60 and the 19th highest of all time. Football League crowds are currently at their highest levels for 50 years and have topped the 16 million mark in each of the last five seasons. Football League Chairman, Lord Mawhinney, said: “It is very encouraging to see more and more supporters going through the turnstiles at Football League grounds. “The dedication they have shown towards their clubs during a challenging economic period further underlines the strength of the domestic game.” The League’s two showpiece cup competitions - the Carling Cup and the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy - have also witnessed growing popularity this season. In the Carling Cup, crowds have increased by more than 3% during the competition’s 50th year, whilst the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy has seen attendances rocket by a massive 37%.

Speculation regarding the future of the former England under-21 star has been unabated since pre-season and debate surrounding his decision to snub a move to Newcastle rages. We mustn’t kid ourselves into thinking this decision stems from a vehement passion for Sheffield United and desire to once again play top flight football in a red and white shirt. But on the other hand it is important that we see this development as an extremely positive one. The main factor determining Kilgallon’s decisions at present is a desire to play in the Premier League as soon as possible.
