Webelievethatsupportbegins withconnec�on,acuppa,maybea chat,andperhapsasharedac�vity, andthatthroughtheseexperienceswe allbegintounderstandoneanother andwhateachofusneeds.

FromNovember14ththeTrust’s newGreenwayLearning&Wellbeing team(seepage5)willbethereon Thursdaystohearabouttheaspectsof ourliveswhichmightbeholdingus back.Theteamwillbese�ngup specificlearningandopportuni�esin responsetowhatresidentstellthem. Thiscouldbesupportwithconfidence, mentalorphysicalhealth,educa�on, employment,loneliness,orisola�on. Thursdaysarebusy,andwhileitis deligh�ultoseeresidentscoming togethertofindconnec�onand support,atthesame�meitis saddeningthatsomuchsupportis needed.

Butthatisourjobhereatthe Trust–tolistentoandrespondtoour community.So,toofferevenmore

opportuni�eswewillalsoberunning bigger,seasonalsupportevents,to bringmoreorganisa�onstogether underoneroof.Everyoneisinvitedto ourWinterConnectonThursday12th December(seebackpage).Herethere willnotonlybeprofessionalstohelp andadvise,butotherthingstoenjoy aswelllikefoodworkshopsand entertainment,withfree cuppasandsnacks.

ANEWLOOKATGREENWAYGYM

Iamsopleasedandproudtolet youallknowthatourmission torefurbishandrevamptheGreenway Gymwasfinallycompletedattheend oftheSummer.Thisincludedalotof pain�ngtogivetheGymanewlook. Thankyoutoeveryonewhochippedin tomakeitsuchawonderfulnewspace forhealth.Wenowhavenew equipment,signs,colours,music system,plusextragroupclassesonour �metable.Wehavealsostrengthened ourhealthandsafetyproceduresand havetakenonnewstaff.

Itreallyhasbeenalongand bumpyroadwhichhashadits challenges,butnowIreallybelievewe havefinallynailedittomake GreenwayGym,withitsloyal members,averystrongcompe�torfor othergymsinNorthBristol.Lovely gymmemberAnneStreetsaid,“I’ve turnedseventy-oneinthepastyear whilebeingamember,andIcan honestlysayIfeelsomuchbe�erin termsofmyfitnessandphysical strength,youhaveanamazinggym whichI’veseenimprovemoreand moreeverymonth,keepupthegreat work”.

Wehadsomefantas�cvolunteers fromPieministerwhokindlytook�me outoftheirworkingdaytothrowon someoverallsandgivethegymits brand-newcolourscheme–thankyou toeveryoneatPieminister.Without thisteamofsuper-starswewould havereallystruggledtogetthefinal phasecompleted.

WestartedtheSummer HolidayswithaBANG–anendofSchoolBBQpartyonthe lastdayofterm.Therewas banners,balloons,music,and deliciousfoodincludinghalalmeat soeveryonecouldtuckin.Oneof ourRanchDads,Graham,took chargeofthecooking–hugethanks Graham!Thiscelebra�onbegansix weeksoflaughter,entertainment, learning,andlotsandlotsofhard workfromourkindvolunteersand brilliantstaffteam.

WecarriedonTheMead Olympicthemewhichbeganatthe SouthmeadFes�val.Thekids competedindifferentOlympicstyle gamestowintheirveryown ‘Southmeadal’andchocolately prizes.Wehadtugsofwar,sack races,trampoline acroba�cs,footy tournaments,bike races,running racesonagiant inflatable obstaclecourse, andasandcastle compe��on.In yearstocome,if youfindaspecial ‘Southmeadal’at thebackofadrawer, wehopeitwilltakeyou backtoSummer2024at TheRanchandthegreat memoriesweallmade playingoutsideand havingtonsoffun.

Playsessions atTheRanch focusonbeing outsideand Bristol’swelllovedwildfood educatorSteve Englandlead happygroupsof foragersintobeau�ful Badock’sWood.The childrenhuntedforblackberries tobringbacktomakecompote,and

pickedwildgarlictomakegarlic bu�ertogoontheirhomemade Frenchbreadtwists,whichthey cookedoverTheRanchfire-pit. Everyonethoroughlyenjoyed gathering,preparing, cooking,andea�ng theirownfood. Ouramazing professional partners Travelling Kitchen,runby ClareandSarah, provided nutri�ousand hotlunchesmost days.Atlunch�me weallsatandateat tableslaidwithtablecloths. Thiscreatedacleanand calmspacetojustbe inthepresent momenttoshare andenjoyfood together.I lovedthesound ofthechildren talkingand gigglingwhile havingtheirfood –itenhancedThe Ranchfamilyvibe weallfeel.The childrenhaddifferentfruit saladseverydayfordessert,and someluckyfamiliesevenhadboxes

ofstrawberriestotakehome!Once aweekwehadhealthypacked luncheswithcarefullyselected ingredientsthankstoCaféDesAmis atGreenway.

Wearethankfultofundingfrom theHolidayAc�vi�esandFood programmewhichencourages ac�vi�esrelatedtomakingand ea�nghealthyfood.So,we discoveredandtasteddifferent typesofmelon(someofourchildren hadnevertastedanotherkindother thanwatermelon),wemadeour ownfruityicepoles,aswellasjuices andsquash–therewasplentytogo round.Thechildrenalsopeddled theirwaytotastyfruitsmoothiesby takingturnsonTheSmoothieBike whichpowersthefruitblender. Theyalsomadetheirownmilk shakeswithextraice-cream!Sarah andClarefromTravellingKitchen taughteveryonehowtomakepizzas fromscratchfromthedoughto sprinklingontheherbs.

Aswellasthissummerof makingandtas�nggoodfood,there werelotsofotherkindsof workshopsandadventures.Tash, fromEachoneTeachoneUKhelped thechildrentomakebubblebath salts,bodylo�ons,andlipbalms,all fromnaturalingredients,andtaught bodyandself-care.LifeCycleUK tookagroupofourboysonabike ridetoTheVenchinLockleazeso

theycouldenjoydoingtricksonthe bikepumptrack.GizmotheClown entertainedusandtaughtuscircus skills.Andofcourse,onhotdays, theold-fashionedwaterslidecame outsoeveryonecouldwhizzalongin thewetandcooloff.Wealsowent onawonderfultriptovisittheSS GreatBritainandlearnabout Brunel–itwasagreatday outforeveryone.

Notonlywasthe Summerasuccessfor youngerkids,butour youngpeopleaged thirteenplushadagreat �meattheirevening sessions.A�erac�vi�esfor youngpeoplemovedroundto TheRanchfromtheoldSouthmead YouthCentreonArnside,sessions forthisagegrouphavegotbe�er andbe�er.OurYouthEngagement ManagerDelisincrediblypassionate aboutworkingalongsideyoung peopletolistentothekindsof ac�vi�es

wanttotakepartin,andsupports themtofindpathsto meaningfulfutures.He hasnowadded anothersessionto runthreeeachweek foryoungpeople. APlayingOutsessionisacoupleof hourswiththeroadclosed(stewarded byresidents)wherechildrencanplay freely,andotherresidentscan connect.Thereisasimpleprocessto getthisgoingincludingcha�ngto yourneighboursandge�ng permissionfromtheCounciltoclose theroad,thenle�ngeveryoneknow aboutit.

BLUEBELLISFLOURISHING

ThisyearTheBluebellNursery celebratesitsten-year anniversaryattheGreenwayCentre. Owner,Izabela,startedthenursery backin2014,withplentyofsupport fromhertwochildren.Shehasalways beenverypassionateaboutteaching andwantedtobringherknowledge andpassionofqualitychildcaretothe Southmeadarea.

Thenurserywasoriginallysituated intheGreenRoomsbuilding(oncethe canteenwhenGreenwaywasa school),butearlierthisyear,dueto thisbuildingbeingrenovated,the nurseryrelocatedtothemain GreenwayCentrebuilding.The nurseryisnowrightnextto theGreenwayGymand CaféDesAmis.Even be�er,the nursery’sview looksdirectly acrossthe Greenway field,overto thelovely Badock’sWood naturereserve, wherethechildren areo�entakenon specialguidedtripsso theycanlookatwildlife,which, inturn,inspirestheirloveofnature.

TheBluebellnurseryis mul�lingual,withteachersfrom differentethnicbackgrounds,which,in turn,isreflectedbytherangeof na�onali�es(forexample,Portuguese, Sudanese,Bulgarian,Spanish,and Polish),representedthroughthe childrenthemselves.

Thenurseryisinfluencedby differentmodelsofchildcare, par�cularlythosefirstimplementedby theReggioEmilianurseries,which placegreatimportanceonthe influenceoftheenvironmentand naturalexplora�on.

Childrena�endingthenurseryalso haveweeklyaccesstoaso�-playand theoutdoorplaygroundatTheRanch AdventurePlayground&YouthSpace.

Addi�onally,thenurseryhasa gardenareawherechildrencan

engageinavarietyoflearningopportuni�es.
