The Mayhew Animal Home

Strive for 125 Helping animals and their carers since 1886™

s 125 Year

As part of our 125th year celebrations, we are asking you to get involved in The Mayhew’s largest fundraising event ever! The idea is simple: raise money for The Mayhew in your own individual and marvellous way! Giving up a little bit of your time to raise some money for animals in need can be really rewarding. You’ll feel a real sense of pride for helping the cats, dogs and rabbits in our care. You’ll meet new people and you’ll have plenty of opportunities to have some fun!

“We chose to show our support of The Mayhew in part through sponsoring an animal unit and are now on our second – we especially love the bi-annual update with a photo of the unit’s current resident: you really feel a connection to it and that you’re directly helping that animal (and many more) at such an important time in their lives. It’s a wonderful feeling that lasts throughout the entire year.” A MAYHEW SUPPORTER

We’ve got loads of fundraising ideas for you below – but the beauty of this fundraising event is that what you do and how you do it is totally up to you!

Sponsored knit, sew or craft making – get people to sponsor you to get crafty! And then you could sell or pass the beautiful things you have made to The Mayhew to sell for you.

Sponsored ‘give it up’– with this idea, it’s not what you do, it’s what you don’t do! Why not give something up to raise some money? Chocolate, shaving, talking, driving, swearing...

Fancy dress party – cats, dogs, rabbits or film stars, fancy dress is a long-standing favourite and ideas for themes and the fun you can have when dressed-up, is endless.

Coffee money or luncheon for your friends and family in your home or get your local community involved and hold it in a more public place such as your local community centre.

Dress down day – People will pay a pound or more not to have to wear their usual work clothes or uniform. They’ll probably pay even more if they can wear the top of their favourite sports team or fancy dress!

Card games evening – Bridge, rummy, whist, pontoon, poker or even Top Trumps! A card games night could be a big deal.

Quiz evening – everyone loves a good quiz night – you could have a theme like animal facts or Victorian history - hold it at your house, local pub or community centre.

Sweepstake for who will win X factor, The Apprentice or Strictly Come Dancing and share the excitement of randomly picking the name and then willing that person on to win. Half the prize money could come to The Mayhew and the other to the winner! Bingo night – with over three million people regularly playing bingo in the UK, you’re bound to get a full house. Kelly’s eye, One Little Duck, Man Alive (that’s 1-2-5 for those of you not familiar with the bingo lingo!) Auction of promises – ask friends or colleagues to think of a promise they can auction off, eg ‘I’ll clean out the cat litter tray for a month’ or ‘I’ll wash your car’. Come dine with me – You and your friends all host dinner parties for each other. At the end of each evening you all rate the

food and the host’s performance. Make a donation to take part and make sure the winner receives a prize for being the ‘hostess with the mostest’! Take a photo of your pet doing something funny and ask people to write a caption for it. Charge people to enter the competition. Half the money raised goes to the person who writes the best caption and half goes to The Mayhew. Bag it up! Simply ask your local supermarket if you can bag customers’ shopping and ask for a donation for your service. It’s simple, and a proven way to raise money, and it’s a great way to meet new people.

THEME YOUR EVENT Why not theme your fundraising idea around our 125th anniversary by either setting yourself a target of raising £125 or you could set yourself a target of doing 125 somethings – some ideas are below:

125 Year s

Exercise your right to raise money by walking to work for 125 days. Donate the money saved on fares, petrol or parking and keep fit while you’re at it!

Sponsored silence for 125 minutes

Get sponsored to swim 125 lengths or widths in your local pool

Make 125 cat nip cushions and donate to The Mayhew to sell

Bake 125 cup cakes and sell them at a local fete, fair or event

Sponsored 125 mile dog walk – on average most dog owners walk their dog more than for a mile a day – so spread over 125 days it’s no change to your routine – but it sounds like a great challenge to those sponsoring you! Why not get a pedometer to track your progress?

Get sponsored to cycle 125 miles Knit 125 blankets and donate them to The Mayhew to keep our cats and dogs snug!

Whatever you do and however you do it, the money raised will make a real difference to the lives of the homeless and abandoned animals we work with each and every day. No matter how much you raise – every penny really does count! Don’t forget to send your photos of your fundraiser or event into us – we would love to see what you’ve been up to! We are here to help.

We can’t wait to help you with your fundraising!! You can contact us on 0208 968 2445 or or alternatively fill in and return the form opposite and we will send you a fundraising pack to help get your started.

The Mayhew Animal Home has a vision of a world where all companion animals are wanted.
