Over a year has passed since Maxton Hall – The World Between Us first captured our hearts with its mix of power, vulnerability, glamour, and secrets. Beyond Ruby and James, characters like Lydia, Allistair, Ember, and Cyril brought this world to life.

As the release of Season 2 approaches, we return to where it all began to relive the story episode by episode and rediscover the moments that shaped this series.

Episode 1 – Under the Radar At Maxton Hall College, scholarship student Ruby Bell is focused on one goal: earning her place at Oxford. As the competition for recommendation letters intensifies, she finds herself in the middle of a moment she was never meant to witness — one that quietly shifts the balance between her and James Beaufort. Later, an unexpected exchange with his best friend Allistair adds a spark James isn’t quite ready for.

Episode 2 – Nobility Obliges

After the welcome party at Maxton Hall gets chaotic, Ruby Bell works hard to make the upcoming fundraising gala a success.

Heir James Beaufort is unexpectedly added to the planning committee and shakes things up with bold ideas, leading to public clashes with Ruby and the first real crack in his controlled façade.

Meanwhile, Ruby faces setbacks with her dress design, learns to swallow her pride, and the two reach a tentative truce when James offers her access to a Beaufort family dress for the gala.

Episode 3 – Exposed On the London trip, Ruby begins to see another side of James — one that’s quieter, more real, and harder to resist. But when a photo of them spreads through Maxton Hall, the fragile trust between them is put to the test. Ruby is forced to face what it means to stand in his world, while James realises that protecting his image might come at a higher price than he expected.

Episode 4 – Moment of Truth

Ruby has a dream about an intimate moment with James, hinting at the growing tension and connection between them. For her birthday, James gives her a Beaufort leather bag and a sketch, showing he notices her beyond his world.

As pressures from his father mount, James skips the Young Beaufort company presentation to attend the gala, where a power outage leads to Ruby and James sharing their first kiss, interrupted by Mortimer, ending the evening abruptly.

Episode 5 – In the Eye of the Storm As Ruby’s dream of Oxford feels closer than ever, the pressure around her and James reaches its breaking point. When Mortimer Beaufort catches them in a moment far too intimate to explain, everything Ruby has worked for is suddenly at risk. James is forced to choose between his family’s expectations and his feelings for her — and for the first time, his decision could change everything.

Episode 6 – A Piece of Happiness

Ruby prepares nervously for her Oxford interviews while James also arrives, but his thoughts keep returning to her. Outside a bar, James’s sister Lydia reveals she is pregnant and that James is still not over Ruby. Later in an Oxford hall, James grows jealous of another student’s attention toward Ruby, leading to a heated confrontation where feelings spill, culminating in a vulnerable kiss and them making love, agreeing to honesty in their relationship. Afterwards, James leaves his house grieving his mother’s death, stops at Ruby’s home, sees her family enjoying a joyful moment through the window, and quietly leaves so as not to disturb them.

My Underrated Moment - Janina For me, it’s the moments between Kesh and Allistair, subtle and fleeting yet filled with everything left unsaid. Their connection carries both fear and longing, unfolding quietly beneath the surface of Maxton Hall’s perfection. Kesh’s struggle to accept his feelings and Allistair’s quiet understanding bring a rare kind of honesty to the story. It isn’t loud or obvious, but it lingers as a reminder that not every love story at Maxton Hall fits the mold.

From Page to Screen: Head Writer Ceylan Yildirim on Maxton Hall

As Head Author and Executive Producer of Maxton Hall - The World Between Us, Ceylan Yildirim plays a unique double role behind the scenes. She not only ensures that Mona Kasten’s beloved world finds its way onto the screen, but also actively shapes new storylines and moments that give the series its distinctive voice.

For fans, this means that every scene carries both respect for the original and the creative spark of someone who knows these characters inside out. In our conversation, Ceylan shares insights into her writing process, the collaboration on set, and the passion of a global fan community that continues to inspire Season Two.

Welche Themen oder Figuren lagen dir in Staffel Eins besonders am Herzen, und wie haben der Casting-Prozess und die Zusammenarbeit mit den Schauspieler:innen dazu beigetragen, sie über das hinaus zum Leben zu erwecken, was auf dem Papier stand? // Which themes or characters were particularly close to your heart in Season One, and how did the casting process and collaboration with the actors help bring them to life beyond what was on the page?

In beinahe allen Figuren sind Themen angelegt, mit denen ich mich identifizieren kann. Das ist das Tolle am Maxton Hall-Kosmos.

Als ich das erste Mal mit Mona Kastens Buchreihe in Berührung kam, habe ich am stärksten mit Ruby und ihrer Entwicklung im Laufe der Geschichte mitfühlen können. Als Stipendiatin stammt sie aus anderen Verhältnissen als ihre Mitschüler:innen. Sie bekommt von vielen Seiten zu spüren, dass sie nicht dazugehört und möchte einfach unbemerkt und reibungslos durchs letzte Schuljahr kommen, um sich endlich ihren Traum von Oxford erfüllen zu können. Doch die unerwartete Liebe zu James und die Kollision mit seiner Welt fordern sie heraus, aus dem Schattendasein zu treten und sich sichtbar zu machen. Ruby muss lernen, nicht nur für ihre

Almost all of the characters contain themes I can identify with. That’s what’s so great about the Maxton Hall universe. When I first came into contact with Mona Kasten’s book series, I was able to empathize most strongly with Ruby and her development throughout the story. As a scholarship student, she comes from a different background than her classmates.

She feels from many sides that she doesn’t belong and just wants to get through her final school year unnoticed and without trouble, so she can finally fulfill her dream of going to Oxford. But the unexpected love for James and the collision with his world challenge her to step out of the shadows and make herself visible. Ruby has to learn to stand up not only for her goals but also for herself. She realizes that someone who wants to be heard and wants to make a change must be able to deal with the reaction of the outside world, even if it means facing resistance or, in the worst case, hostility. Learning to handle that with confidence is the next step on Ruby’s path.

In our search for the right cast, we looked at

many great newcomer talents. When Harriet came into the casting room, her strength and presence immediately blew us away. She didn’t just convince us with her acting. Her charisma and that subtle coolness she conveys through her looks and gestures give Ruby the complexity we had hoped for her to have.

Moreover, it’s very important not only to us but also to Harriet that Ruby is portrayed in a contemporary way. I always appreciate feedback from our actors about their characters and engage with the topics that matter to them. When an attitude or a line of dialogue is constructively questioned, there’s a reason for it. Finding out what that is can, in the best case, also enrich the story.

Ziele, sondern auch für sich selbst einzustehen.

Sie versteht, dass jemand, der gehört werden möchte und etwas verändern möchte, mit der Reaktion der Außenwelt klarkommen muss, auch wenn es sich um Gegenwind oder im schlimmsten Fall um Feindseligkeit handelt.

Damit souverän umzugehen, ist der nächste Schritt auf Rubys Weg. Auf der Suche nach der richtigen Besetzung haben wir uns viele großartige Newcomer Talente angesehen. Als Harriet in den Castingraum kam, hat uns ihre Kraft und Ausstrahlung auf Anhieb umgehauen. Sie hat uns nicht nur mit ihrem Spiel überzeugt. Ihr Charisma und diese subtile Coolness, die sie in Blicken und Gesten mitbringt, verleihen Ruby eine Vielschichtigkeit, die wir uns sehr für sie gewünscht haben. Dazu ist es nicht nur uns, sondern auch Harriet sehr wichtig, dass Ruby zeitgemäß erzählt wird. Ich freue mich immer über Feedback unserer Schauspieler:innen zu ihren Charakteren und setze mich mit den Themen auseinander, die ihnen wichtig sind.

Wenn eine Haltung oder ein Dialog konstruktiv hinterfragt wird, gibt es einen Grund dafür. Den herauszufinden, kann im besten Fall auch die Story bereichern.

Gab es eine Szene, die dich überrascht hat, weil sie am Set viel mehr Intensität oder Emotion hatte, als du erwartet hast? // Was there a scene that surprised youwith how much intensity or emotion it carried once it came to life on set?

In der 1. Staffel liebe ich die Poolszene in Folge 3 und die darauffolgende Autofahrt. Ich glaube spätestens in diesem Moment verliebt sich das ganze Publikum in Ruby und James und wünscht sich ein Happy End für die beiden.

Auch der Streit und die Versöhnung im Treppenhaus von Oxford haben eine große emotionale Wucht und heben die Dimension der Anziehungskraft zwischen den Figuren auf ein neues Level.

Auch in der zweiten Staffel gibt es viele Szenen, die nicht nur mich überrascht haben werden.

Gleich in der ersten Folge kommt es zu einem Aufeinandertreffen von Ruby und James in seinem Zimmer, das es in sich hat. Die Gefühlspalette von roh bis verletzlich – fantastisch im Zusammenspiel von Harriet und Damian – gehen extrem unter die Haut. Auch der wunderbare Fedja van Huêt hat eine ganz besondere Szene in dieser Staffel, die einen

nicht so schnell loslässt. Wer sie gesehen hat, wird wissen, was ich meine. Und die allerletzte Sequenz ist von Harriet so atemberaubend gespielt, dass sie ganz lange nachhallen wird.

Beim Schreiben dieser Szenen hatte ich Gänsehaut und einen dicken Kloß im Hals. Dass dieses Gefühl komplett in der Inszenierung und im Spiel aufgegangen ist und noch übertroffen wurde, hat mich sehr berührt.

In the first season, I love the pool scene in episode 3 and the following car ride. I think that at the latest in this moment, the entire audience falls in love with Ruby and James and starts wishing for a happy ending for the two of them. The argument and reconciliation in the Oxford stairwell also have great emotional impact and elevate the dimension of attraction between the characters to a new level.

There are also many scenes in the second season that will not only surprise the audience, but also me. Already in the first episode, there’s an encounter between Ruby and James in his room that really packs a punch. The emotional range - from raw to vulnerable - fantastically portrayed in the interplay between Harriet and Damian - goes extremely deep under the skin.

The wonderful Fedja van Huêt also has a very special scene in this season that stays with you for a long time. Whoever has seen it will know what I mean. And the very last sequence is acted so breathtakingly by Harriet that it will resonate for a long time. While writing these scenes, I had goosebumps and a lump in my throat. The fact that this feeling came through completely in the direction and the acting and was even surpassed - moved me deeply.

Drehorte wie Schloss Marienburg, Potsdam und London haben alle eine Rolle bei der Gestaltung von Maxton Hall gespielt. Wie haben diese Orte die Atmosphäre der Geschichte beeinflusst? //

Filming locations like Marienburg Castle, Potsdam, and London all played a role in shaping Maxton Hall. How did these places collectively influence the story’s atmosphere?

Ich glaube, dass Maxton Hall in England spielt, aber hauptsächlich in Deutschland gedreht wird, trägt maßgeblich zum Zauber unserer Serie bei. Der Mix dieser Orte erzeugt eine ganz besondere Atmosphäre. Im Schloss Marienburg fühlt man sich fast wie bei Harry Potter. Die neugotische Architektur und die verschlungenen Treppenaufgänge schaffen eine Stimmung von Geheimnis und Tradition, die perfekt zum englischen College-Leben passt. Die ausgewählten Ecken von Potsdam wiederum bringen eine ganz eigene Mischung aus historischen Gebäuden, die so auch in England stehen könnten, aber eben nicht klar verortet werden und einem künstlerischen Ambiente mit ein. Das hilft ein Stückweit von der Realität abzurücken und dieses leicht überhöhte Gefühl der Welt um Ruby, James und Co. zu erzeugen. London spielt nur momentartig eine Rolle, wirkt aber wie der pulsierende Herzschlag hinter der Geschichte.

Vor allem das majestätische Oxford und all die anderen kleinen englischen und deutschen Motive sind Puzzleteile unseres erzählten Universums. Diese Spielorte werden von unserer Szenenbildnerin Isabel von Forster und ihrem Team konzeptionell und gestalterisch geschickt zusammengeführt und wirken dadurch beinahe wie lebendige Charaktere, die eigene Emotionen transportieren. Sie verleihen der Reise von Ruby und James eine Authentizität, die das Publikum in diese Welt eintauchen lässt, ohne sie zu hinterfragen.

I believe that the fact that Maxton Hall is set in England but filmed primarily in Germany contributes significantly to the magic of our series. The mix of these locations creates a very special atmosphere. At Marienburg Castle, you almost feel like you’re in Harry Potter. The neoGothic architecture and the winding staircases create a sense of mystery and tradition that perfectly fits the English college life. The selected spots in Potsdam, on the other hand, bring their own mix of historical buildings that could just as well be found in England, but that

cannot be clearly located, and they add a touch of artistic ambiance. That helps to distance the story a bit from reality and to create that slightly heightened feeling of the world around Ruby, James, and the others.

London only plays a role in brief moments, but it feels like the pulsing heartbeat behind the story. Above all, the majestic Oxford and all the other small English and German motifs are puzzle pieces of our narrated universe. These locations are conceptually and artistically brought together by our production designer Isabel von Forster and her team, making them feel almost like living characters that convey their own emotions. They give Ruby and James’s journey an authenticity that allows the audience to immerse themselves in this world without questioning it.

Wie ergänzt du dich mit Martin Schreier am Set, um eine gemeinsame Vision der Serie zum Leben bringen zu können? // How do you and Martin Schreier complement each other on set to bring a shared vision of the series to life?

Was Martin und mich sehr verbindet ist die Leidenschaft und die Kraft, mit der wir Geschichten erzählen, und, dass wir keine Angst vor großen Gefühlen haben. Wir beide haben eine sehr starke kreative Vorstellung, die manchmal komplett deckungsgleich ist und manchmal total auseinanderläuft. Gleichzeitig sind wir sehr unterschiedliche Persönlichkeiten und bringen sehr unterschiedliche Lebenserfahrungen und Perspektiven mit.

Ich für meinen Teil denke mir auf dem Papier aus, wie die Geschichte gebaut ist, wie sie verlaufen soll, welche einzelnen Bestandteile – aus dem Roman oder aus der eigenen Ergänzung – dazugehören, wie sich die Charaktere verhalten und was sie sagen müssen, um ihrem Anteil mit der nötigen Tiefe und Substanz gerecht zu werden. Je klarer dieser „Fahrplan“ ist, umso besser kann Martin ihn am Set mit allen Gegebenheiten vor Ort umsetzen. Dabei bringt er natürlich seine eigenen kreativen Vorstellungen mit. Da sind genaue Absprachen sehr wichtig. Sowohl am Set als auch in der Postproduktion. Da kann es durchaus vorkommen, dass wir uns uneinig sind und kreativ „streiten“. Aber da wir wissen,

dass wir beide für „unser Baby“ das Beste erreichen wollen, finden wir immer Lösungen, die meist keine Kompromisse, sondern noch schönere Varianten als die anfangs von uns angedachten Ideen ergeben. Das ist eine ganz besondere Erfahrung.

In der letzten Folge der zweiten Staffel gibt es zum Beispiel einen Song, der eine ganz spezielle Schlüsselrolle für die Familie Bell spielt. Wie der eingebaut und aufgelöst wurde, ist aus genau so einem Reibungsmoment entstanden. Martin hatte schließlich die zündende Idee, die der Szene den fehlenden Hauch Magie verliehen hat. Das war ganz toll!

Ich glaube fest daran, dass gerade unsere Unterschiede und unsere Leidenschaft für unsere Vision das Ergebnis unglaublich bereichern und Maxton Hall zu dem machen, was es ist.

What connects Martin and me very deeply is the passion and the energy with which we tell stories, and the fact that we’re not afraid of big emotions. We both have a very strong creative vision, which sometimes aligns completely and sometimes goes in totally different directions.

At the same time, we are very different personalities and bring very different life experiences and perspectives to the table.

For my part, I work out on paper how the story is structured, how it should unfold, which individual components - from the novel or from our own additions - belong to it, how the characters behave and what they need to say in order to do justice to their role with the necessary depth and substance. The clearer this “roadmap” is, the better Martin can bring it to life on set with all the circumstances there.

Of course, he contributes his own creative ideas as well. That’s why precise coordination is very important - both on set and in postproduction. It can definitely happen that we disagree and have creative “arguments.” But since we both know that we want to achieve the best for “our baby,” we always find solutions that are usually not compromises, but even more beautiful versions than the ideas we had originally envisioned. That’s a very special experience.

For example, in the final episode of the second season, there’s a song that plays a very special key role for the Bell family. The way it was

integrated and resolved came out of exactly such a moment of creative friction. In the end, Martin had the brilliant idea that gave the scene the missing touch of magic. That was just wonderful! I firmly believe that it’s precisely our differences and our shared passion for our vision that enrich the result so incredibly and make Maxton Hall what it is.

Wenn du auf den Adaptionsprozess zurückblickst – was hat er dich über das Geschichtenerzählen gelehrt, das du in deiner bisherigen Arbeit noch nicht erlebt hast? // Looking back on the adaptation process, what did it teach you about storytelling that you hadn’t experienced in your work before?

Die dramaturgischen Grundregeln zwischen Prosa und serieller Erzählform für ein visuelles Medium unterscheiden sich erheblich, auch wenn es sich um den gleichen Inhalt handelt.

In den Romanen von Mona Kasten können wir seitenlang in den Gedanken und Gefühlswelten von Ruby und James schwelgen. Sie schafft es, die Komplexität der Themen mit viel Romantik, Leichtigkeit und Wärme zu beschreiben. Das wollte ich natürlich auch für unsere visuelle Umsetzung schaffen.

Gleichzeitig muss aber der Handlungsablauf so strukturiert werden, dass die Erlebnisse der Figuren im Rhythmus und Zeitablauf der Folge stimmig sind und die emotionale Achterbahnfahrt fürs Publikum so mitreißend wie möglich gestaltet werden kann. Aber wie können Gefühle in der Handlung mitgetragen werden, ohne erklärt werden zu müssen? Wir haben viel über Musik und visuelle Stilmittel wie die Slow Motion Montagen diskutiert und uns entschieden, sowohl Rubys als auch James‘ Gedankenstimme als kommentierendes Element aus dem Roman zu übernehmen, um dem Aspekt der beiden Perspektiven gerecht zu werden.

Allerdings haben wir festgestellt, dass die Originaltexte dafür nicht immer eins zu eins übernommen werden können. Ich habe versucht, visuelle Entsprechungen für die komplexen Gefühle und Gedanken zu finden und bin dabei noch tiefer in die psychologischen Hintergründe der Figuren eingetaucht als es im Roman der Fall ist. Dabei

The dramaturgical principles between prose and a serial narrative form for a visual medium differ significantly, even when dealing with the same content. In Mona Kasten’s novels, we can indulge for pages in Ruby’s and James’s worlds of thoughts and emotions. She manages to describe the complexity of the themes with a lot of romance, lightness, and warmth. That’s something I naturally wanted to achieve in our visual adaptation as well.

At the same time, the course of events must be structured in such a way that the experiences of the characters fit coherently within the rhythm and timing of each episode, and so that the emotional rollercoaster can be made as captivating as possible for the audience. But how can emotions be carried by the action without having to be explained? We discussed a lot about music and visual stylistic devices such as slow-motion montages, and decided to adopt both Ruby’s and James’s inner voice as a commentary element from the novel in order to do justice to the aspect of the two perspectives.

However, we found that the original texts could not always be taken over one-to-one for this purpose. I tried to find visual equivalents for the characters’ complex feelings and thoughts and, in doing so, delved even deeper into their psychological backgrounds than is the case in the novel. Being in close exchange with Mona Kasten and the LYX publishing house was very important to my producing partner Markus Brunnemann, to our partners at Amazon Studios, and to me, and it helped refine many decisions throughout the process.

Alles, was ich von den Fans in den sozialen Medien sehe oder lese, motiviert mich, genau die Elemente weiterzuführen oder noch weiter auszubauen, für die wir uns schon in der ersten Staffel entschieden haben. Wir bekommen so viel Zuspruch aus der ganzen Welt. Das ist überwältigend. Darum wollten wir an der Grundformel nichts ändern. Musik spielt dabei eine ganz elementare Rolle. All die Maxton Hall-Playlists und die musikalisch unterlegten Fan Edits zeigen, dass wir mit unserem Sound ins Schwarze getroffen haben. Auch die selbstkomponierten Songs unseres fantastischen Komponisten-Duos Victoria und Julian (Songs in Cinema) sind bei den Zuschauer:innen unglaublich gut angekommen.

Daher habe ich in der zweiten Staffel ganz konkrete Songs schon zu den jeweiligen Szenen ins Drehbuch geschrieben. Nicht, damit es dann unbedingt dieser Song auch im fertigen Film werden muss, aber damit die Tonalität der Musik von vornherein spürbar ist und schon in der Inszenierung berücksichtigt werden kann.

Everything I see or read from fans on social media motivates me to continue or further develop exactly those elements that we had already decided on in the first season. We receive so much positive feedback from all over the world. It’s overwhelming. That’s why we didn’t want to change the basic formula.

Music plays a very fundamental role in this. All the Maxton Hall playlists and the fan edits set to music show that we really hit the mark with our sound. The original songs composed by our fantastic composer duo Victoria and Julian (Songs in Cinema) were also incredibly well received by the audience.

That’s why, in the second season, I wrote very specific songs directly into the script for the respective scenes. Not because it necessarily had to be that song in the finished film, but

Wie schaffst du es, den einzigartigen Ton der Serie zu bewahren, wenn du neue Handlungsstränge oder Figuren einführst? // How do you approach maintaining the show’s unique tone while introducing new storylines or characters?

Wie gesagt, ist Musik ein ganz entscheidendes Element im kreativen Prozess. Außerdem ist es maßgeblich wichtig, die Kernwerte und Themen der Romane im Blick zu behalten. Jede neue Figur und jeder neu dazu erfundene Plot sollte sich organisch aus der Geschichte heraus in die bestehende Welt einfügen und dabei helfen, die zentralen Fragen der Hauptcharaktere zu beantworten.

Ich habe ganz bewusst Nebenfiguren aus der bestehenden Romanwelt eingebaut. Auch wenn sie im Roman nur am Rande eine Rolle spielen, war es mir wichtig, sie im Sinne der emotionalen Spannung weiter auszubauen. Mona Kasten hat manchmal mit einem einfachen Halbsatz Themenwelten angelegt, in die man sich wunderbar vertiefen und damit Handlungsbögen für die serielle Erzählform verstärken kann.

Bei diesem Prozess sind meine Kolleg:innen im Writers Room und unsere Redakteurinnen Petra Henggeund Julia Nisslein von Prime Video die besten Sparringspartner. Mit ihnen gleiche ich alle Ideen ab und kann nach ihrem wertvollen Feedback erkennen, was funktioniert und was eventuell nicht so gut aufgeht.

As I said, music is a crucial element in the creative process. In addition, it’s fundamentally important to keep the core values and themes of the novels in mind. Every new character and every newly invented plotline should grow organically out of the story and fit naturally into the existing world, helping to answer the main

characters’ central questions.

I very consciously incorporated supporting characters from the existing novel universe.

Even if they only play a minor role in the books, it was important to me to expand them further in terms of emotional tension.

Mona Kasten sometimes established entire thematic worlds with just a single short sentence - worlds you can wonderfully dive into and use to strengthen narrative arcs for the serial storytelling format.

In this process, my colleagues in the writers’ room and our editors Petra Hengge and Julia Nisslein from Prime Video are the best sparring partners. I align all ideas with them and, thanks to their valuable feedback, can see what works and what might not come together quite as well.

Welchen Rat würdest du jemandem geben, der davon träumt, Executive Producer im Fernsehen zu werden, aber nicht weiß, wo er anfangen soll? // What advice would you give to someone who dreams of becoming an executive producer in television but doesn’t know where to begin?

Ich würde sagen, eine unbändige Leidenschaft fürs Geschichtenerzählen ist die Basis. Ein grundlegendes Interesse an allen Bereichen des Filmemachens wäre natürlich auch wichtig. Dann würde ich dazu raten – neben all den großartigen Hochschulen und Studiengängen, für die man sich bewerben kann – so viel Praxiserfahrung wie möglich zu sammeln. Workshops zu besuchen, Praktika oder kleinere Jobs zu absolvieren und die verschiedenen Facetten der Produktion kennenzulernen. Jedes kleine Detail hilft, ein besseres Verständnis für das Handwerk zu entwickeln.

Networking ist ein weiterer wichtiger Aspekt.

Echte Verbindungen zu anderen Kreativen können inspirieren, motivieren und manchmal

auch ungeahnt Gelegenheiten für eine Zusammenarbeit eröffnen.

An eigenen Projekten zu arbeiten, auch wenn sie nur ganz klein sind und dabei die eigene Stimme zu finden, halte ich für essenziell. Jeder Mensch ist ein Unikat. Und diese Einzigartigkeit in die eigenen Projekte bewusst einfließen zu lassen, wird sie immer von anderen abheben.

Den Wert darin zu erkennen, ausdauernd und resilient zu sein, ist fundamental! Denn der Weg kann steinig sein und Rückschläge gehören zum Prozess. Sich niemals entmutigen zu lassen und das Ziel vor Augen zu behalten, kann am Ende entscheidend für den Erfolg sein.

I would say that an irrepressible passion for storytelling is the foundation. A fundamental interest in all areas of filmmaking would, of course, also be important. Then I would recommend - in addition to all the great universities and study programs one can apply for - gaining as much practical experience as possible. Attending workshops, doing internships or smaller jobs, and getting to know the different facets of production. Every little detail helps to develop a better understanding of the craft.

Networking is another important aspect. Real connections with other creatives can inspire, motivate, and sometimes open up unexpected opportunities for collaboration.

Working on your own projects, even if they’re very small, and finding your own voice in the process is, in my view, essential. Every person is unique. And consciously letting this uniqueness flow into your own projects will always make them stand out from others. Recognizing the value of perseverance and resilience is fundamental! Because the path can be rocky, and setbacks are part of the process. Never allowing yourself to be discouraged and keeping your goal in sight can ultimately be decisive for success.

Egal, wer wir sind oder woher wir kommen, manche Themen sind einfach universell. Wir alle kennen die Intensität der Gefühle einer ersten großen Liebe. Diese durch die Augen von Ruby und James neu zu erleben und dabei an die eigenen Erfahrungen erinnert zu werden, hat bei vielen Menschen starke emotionale Reaktionen ausgelöst. Ich habe viele leidenschaftliche Kommentare in den sozialen Medien gesehen, in denen Menschen ihre eigenen Gedanken über Liebe, Verlust und Identität geteilt oder sich über unsere antagonistischen Figuren aufgeregt haben.

Staffel 2 ist ein sehr intensives Wechselbad der Gefühle. Wir haben nicht nur erzählerisch noch mal eine Schippe draufgelegt. Es geht um so viele existenzielle Themen: Tod, Verlust, den eigenen Platz im Leben. Für unsere Hauptfiguren geht es um Wachstum auf allen Ebenen und darüber, sich von auferlegten Strukturen zu befreien. Ich würde mich freuen, wenn es uns gelänge, unseren

Season 2 is a very intense rollercoaster of emotions. We’ve taken things up another notch not only narratively. It deals with so many existential themes: death, loss, finding one’s own place in life. For our main characters, it’s about growth on every level and about freeing themselves from imposed structures. I would be happy if we managed to encourage our viewers to believe in their own dreams, not to be beaten down by life’s setbacks and run away from them, but to face challenges head-on — just like Ruby, James, and Lydia do.

No matter who we are or where we come from, some themes are simply universal. We all know the intensity of the feelings that come with a first great love. Experiencing that anew through the eyes of Ruby and James, and being reminded of our own experiences in the process, has triggered strong emotional reactions in many people. I’ve seen many passionate comments on social media in which people shared their own thoughts about love, loss, and identity - or expressed their frustration with our antagonistic characters. Everyone is wishing for a happy ending for Ruby and James. Seeing how deeply we can touch and unite people in their emotions and experiences, despite all our differences, makes me very, very happy.

HARRIET HERBIG - MATTEN AT HOT ONES GERMANY

Fiery wings, cold milk and honest laughter. Harriet Herbig-Matten takes on the ultimate heat test at Hot Ones Germany, balancing humor and grace through every level of spice.

Before becoming Ruby Bell, Harriet appeared in Das Pubertier and Bibi & Tina. She once auditioned for “The Empress (Sisi)”, narrowly missing the lead. “Everything happens for a reason,” she says, otherwise she might never have landed at Maxton Hall. The call confirming her role came in an unlikely place: a supermarket restroom.

At Hot Ones, she stayed calm until chicken wing number eight plus the sauce, when things, as she laughed, turned “godless.” Milk and ice were ready, but she didn’t give up and even dared the host to do the same. Between spice and laughter, she shared small details about herself. Her first shoot was a short film by her brother, she brushes her teeth an odd number of times and she hates sauerkraut and mustard.

After Maxton Hall, Harriet needed time to be seen beyond “the actress next to Damian.” Now she feels grounded and independent, ready to define her own path. She describes herself as Ruby’s opposite. While Ruby plans and organizes every step, Harriet trusts instinct, creativity and flow.

In “Schwarzes Gold,” she found the perfect contrast to Maxton’s perfection.

Surrounded by dirt, oil and freedom, she plays a character that is angry, strong and fierce, and felt creatively liberated by the experience.

She is drawn to thrillers, sports dramas and historical stories, projects that challenge and inspire her. If she weren’t acting, she says she would still be creating something artistic.

The official trailer for Maxton Hall Season 2 is finally out - and if one thing’s clear, it’s that this season isn’t going to get easy on us.

Emotional fallout, complicated dynamics, and the kind of heartbreak you feel in your stomach - the tone is darker, the stakes are higher, and the softness from Season 1 now comes with bruises.

The trailer picks up right after the Season 1 finale - James facing the loss of his mother, Ruby still believing things between them are finally falling into place. Then comes the scene: James at the pool, kissing Elaine.

Ruby sees it. And whatever felt safe is suddenly gone.

Fans felt it instantly. “Watching the trailer was like seeing the pages of my favourite book come to life. The pain, the yearning...

Season two is going to wreck me emotionally!”, wrote @thisisxalina.

But it’s not just Ruby and James at the center of it all. We see Ruby leaning on her friends - Ember, Lydia, and Lin - a reminder

that this story isn’t only about love, but also friendship, grief, and who’s really there when everything falls apart. Meanwhile, James and Lydia are left to deal with their emotions. @damik.ua messaged: “My mouth was hanging open the entire time. I couldn’t even close it. Maxton Hall at the Prime Retreat in Ibiza At this year’s Prime Video Retreat in Ibiza, Harriet Herbig-Matten and Damian Hardung swapped the Maxton Hall uniforms for sunshine. On the very same day as the official trailer release, our two leads showed up with the same ease and quiet chemistry fans know and love from the show.

But the retreat wasn’t just a getaway - it also gave a first glimpse into Season 2.

During the event, the very first episode was shown to an international audience, and early reactions made one thing clear: it’s going to be emotional. Picking up right where Season 1 left off, the story goes deeper, hits harder, and doesn’t hold back.

The feedback online and on-site was overwhelmingly positive - a good sign for a season that promises more growth, more pressure, and more honesty from both Ruby and James. Harriet and Damian both spoke about their characters stepping into new territory: Ruby still focused and driven, James more vulnerable and emotionally raw than we’ve seen him before.

Later that night, the afterparty kept the mood up - and Runa Greiner who we know as Ruby Bells sister, Ember Bell, was there too.

Highlighting A Fan Edit Account Meet Bianca — or Bia Hardung, as the fandom knows her. Our first Fan Edit Highlight.

From Guatemala, she’s a talented video editor who brings Damian’s performances to life through emotional, beautifully detailed edits. Whether she’s matching scenes to music or capturing the smallest expressions, her work has become a standout in the fandom.

To start, could you please write 3–5 sentences about yourself — just whatever you feel comfortable sharing and think would be fun for readers to know.

Hi everyone! I’m Bianca, better known in the world of edits as Bia Hardung, and I’m from Guatemala. Although I study a math-focused career, I always find ways to escape into my creative side, as any true Pisces would. When I’m not editing, I enjoy reading, writing, listening to music and cook. Creating Damian edits has been an incredible adventure, a little world where I can let my creativity soar and enjoy every detail of the process.

How did you first get into video editing?

I began to take an interest in video editing out of sheer curiosity and as a form of creative refuge. When I discovered Maxton Hall and saw the brilliant performances of each actor, especially Damian Hardung, I felt as though I had found a kind of muse that awakened my creativity. At first, my attempts were simple, experimenting with effects and styles, but gradually I began learning and developing my own visual language. Before I knew it, editing had become an important part of my life;

each edit has become a space where I can explore my creativity while connecting with the community, sharing moments that move us all.

What inspired you to start creating edits of Damian and his work?

I think it all started with the way Damian manages to convey such genuine emotions. There is something in his acting that goes beyond the screen— each of his characters seems to have a soul, a story that keeps breathing even after the credits roll. That connection is what inspired me to create. I wanted to capture, in my own way, that intensity and sensitivity he conveys, especially in Maxton Hall, where he achieves such a unique balance between vulnerability and strength. Every look, every gesture of his seems to tell something different, and my edits are born precisely from this desire to preserve those moments, to relive them, and to share them with others who were also touched by his performance.

Can you walk us through your creative process when making a new edit?

It usually all starts with a song. That’s where the main idea comes from, as there are melodies that deeply connect

with the characters Damian portrays.

From there, I choose the most fitting verse, the cuts, and the main image that will open the edit. It’s a very intuitive process — I let the music and visuals guide me until everything aligns and conveys exactly what I wanted to express.

Do you have a favorite edit you’ve made so far — and what makes it special to you?

This is a very difficult question… I even had to go back and stalk myself to relive the story behind each of my edits. It’s hard to choose just one when each carries a piece of my heart, but I think the edits that feature the song ‘Bout It’ by JMSN hold a very special place for me. It all started with the first edit I made using that song, and unexpectedly, it became “Damian’s song” within my content.

Reading the comments from the community, where they began calling him “the owner of that song,” made each edit feel unique and turned that song into a kind of personal signature in my work. Every time I use ‘Bout It’ with a character Damian portrays, I feel like I’m reliving that first moment of inspiration, and it reminds me that every edit I create should be enjoyed to the fullest, because in the end, the real magic lies in creating with emotion and sharing it with those who feel it with me.

Where do you find inspiration — both inside and outside the Damian Hardung fandom?

Within Damian's fandom, I find inspiration in his performances and the genuine way he conveys emotions; this motivates me to try to capture a bit of that same magic in my edits. Outside the fandom, I find inspiration in music, cinematography, colors, and those small moments of peace that, without planning, spark ideas in my mind. Additionally, the community that enjoys my edits plays a fundamental role in my creativity: reading their comments and feeling that a video manages to convey emotion pushes me to keep creating and exploring new ways of expression. That connection is what makes the entire process so rewarding.

What’s the most rewarding part of sharing your edits with the fandom?

Without a doubt, the most rewarding part is the connection. When someone shares the feelings that one of my edits sparked in them, whether in a private message or a comment, I know all the effort was worth it. It’s beautiful to see how something that comes from a personal feeling can touch so many people who share the same love for Damian, his series, and movies. Another incredibly important aspect that I can’t overlook is the genuine friendships I’ve formed with members of Damian’s community around the world; they enrich the experience even more and make me feel that I’m not just sharing an edit of my favorite actor or series, but creating a space where emotions and friendship come together and are experienced collectively.

Any dream projects or future ideas you’d love to create?

Wow, this question gave me a total flashback to the day I created a speculative edit of Damian with a very special brand… yes, the one that starts with Calvin and ends with Klein (wink). That day, a crazy idea came to mind after reading

comments about how amazing it would be, someday, to collaborate on a campaign or official project with him. Maybe I’m dreaming a little too high, but I would love to contribute in a more professional way alongside his team, combining my creativity, admiration, and that fan magic that always inspires me to keep creating. Even so, today I feel happy enjoying every creation and every idea that comes from the heart, without expecting anything in return, simply enjoying the journey and sharing my love and support for Damian in every edit.

How do you balance your own creative style with capturing the tone of Damian’s projects?

Finding the balance between my creative style and the tone of Damian's projects is an intuitive and deeply emotional process. I fully immerse myself in each project, letting its atmosphere surround me and feeling every emotion, while carefully observing the key scenes I want to highlight in my edits. Gradually, my mind begins to pair songs that bring my ideas to life, allowing my personal vision to blend naturally, like a delicate exercise in harmony. This way, I let my creativity shape each edit into something not only truly special but also capable of moving and delighting those who watch it.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start making and sharing fan edits?

My advice would be to start without fear and without comparing yourself to others. We all start from zero, and over time you’ll discover your own style. Don’t aim for perfection; instead, focus on conveying emotions. Each edit is an opportunity to learn and experiment, so enjoy the process and let your work reflect what you truly feel. If you edit with passion and authenticity, there will always be someone who connects with your art and appreciates what you share.

Nearly 3,000 people came together at Berlin’s Tempodrom to celebrate the return of Maxton Hall. And what made this night even more special? The fact that so many of them were actual fans of the story, the characters, and everything this show represents.

That kind of energy is rare - and you could feel it in every corner of the venue and way beyond.

From the moment we arrived, it was clear this wasn’t going to be just some premiere. Inside, we were welcomed into an immersive experience that brought the world of Maxton Hall to life:

A Spoiler-Free Look into the Season Two Premiere

iconic set pieces, a wish tree, detailed location recreations, exclusive merch to win, photobooths, and so many little touches that made it feel like stepping into the series itself.

Before the screening even started, a live show hosted by Melissa Khalaj and Laura Larsson brought the cast on stage for a mix of heartfelt, hilarious and surprising moments. There were games, interviews, and spontaneous emotional reactions — and even the cast and crew seemed blown away by the sheer number of people there for them, their work, and this story.

Thanks to a global livestream, fans from all over the world got to be part of the evening too (something that’s still available to watch on YouTube!).

What followed was something we’ll never forget: the exclusive screening of the first two episodes of Season 2.

Watching them in a room full of people laughing, crying, and reacting together? It was powerful. The atmosphere was electric, emotional, and filled with love for this story and everyone involved in bringing it to life.
