ABOUT GOVINDA GABRIEL

When Govinda Gabriel stepped into the world of “Maxton Hall - The World Between Us”, Usˮ, he became Keshav Patel, a character who has been part of the series from the very beginning. But there is more to Govindaʼs work than his role in “Maxton Hallˮ. His previous projects have already allowed him to explore very different characters and stories. In “Encounters”, “Encountersˮ, he took on the role of Waleed, while “Kairosˮ saw him play Lias. Both

ELI RICCARDI & TONI MOR LIGHT UP KÖLN Eli Riccardi and Toni Mor seriously blew me away in Köln. Their sound was unlike anything I have heard live before and the best way I can describe it is jazz punk in the coolest possible way. It was groovy and completely unpredictable, and I loved every second of it. Both of them were incredible, but I also have to give so much credit to the supporting band. One of my favorite moments was when the saxophone and trombone players came off the stage and went straight into the crowd, with everyone around them dancing and moving with the music.

© Elise (EIC)

The crowd honestly made the night even better. Everyone was so into the music without being obnoxious about it, which made the whole concert feel even more electric. Germans seriously understand concert etiquette, so major props there. This was easily one of the best concerts I have been to in a long time, and exactly the kind of night that reminds me why I love live music so much. I walked out of the venue still completely buzzing from it all. If Eli Riccardi and Toni Mor are ever playing near me again, I will absolutely be there.

Between Stage, Screen and Sound GOVINDA GABRIEL ON KESHAV & HIS CREATIVE JOURNEY &

Best known to Maxton Hall fans as Keshav, Govinda Gabriel brings a quiet complexity to his character. We sat down with him to talk about finding his role, his journey as an actor, life beyond the screen – and what he can already tease us about Season 3.

How would you describe Kesh to someone who hasn’t met him yet? I would describe him as an introverted young man who actually wants to be good, or simply to be the way he truly is. At the same time, he feels like the world around him is pushing him into a certain corner and judging him. To some extent, he struggles because of the people around him – and because he is unable to be the way he actually wants to be.

Was glaubst du, wonach sich Keshav insgeheim am meisten sehnt? / What do you think Keshav secretly longs for the most?

I think, above all, to be accepted. / What was the biggest challenge for you in playing a rather quiet and internally conflicted character like Keshav?

How do you develop a character: mainly based on the script, through conversations with the director, or more from your own instincts?

For me personally, it wasn’t always easy to film the group scenes and party scenes on set because you had to improvise a lot and be loud. That’s a little more difficult for me. I work better when I have a script and therefore a certain framework for acting that I can prepare for. Spontaneous scenes with a lot of people can sometimes be quite challenging for me. At the same time, that also suited my role quite well because, at least in the first two seasons, Keshav finds himself in a similar situation. I’m not allowed to say much about the third season yet. In some cases, I didn’t even have to act that much because I felt a little out of place myself. I think you can automatically see that a little in some scenes. © Prime Video

Most of the time, I initially approach a role by coming up with something myself – after all, it’s my role (laughs). That already starts during the casting or audition: You have to offer something in order to get the role in the first place. That’s your first idea of the character. If that idea is accepted, it often doesn’t change that much anymore. Usually, you’re cast because you’ve already understood the character and know what you want to do with it.

8

I don’t usually prepare for a role with a personal coach. There are colleagues who do that, but personally, I prefer working with my own ideas. Over the course of the process, however, we always had joint coaching sessions before the start of the seasons, and they definitely helped. Especially with the third season, I was able to really get into it again. That’s also because things get a little more exciting for Alistair and Keshav in season three. I won’t say any more about that (laughs). In the second season, there wasn’t that much for either of us to do, so the preparations weren’t quite as intensive back then either.

Did you already know during the casting that it was for Maxton Hall, or was it still a secret for you – similar to Harriet and Damian? I didn’t know anything at all. For me, the project was also called Stuart College, and Keshav was still called Noah during the casting. Back then, I had a little book in which I wrote down my notes and thoughts about my roles. It still has the page from the casting for the first season with all my thoughts about Noah – so Keshav, aka Noah.

How would you describe Season Three of Maxton Hall?

Was ich

So far, I’ve only seen the scenes that I was allowed to dub – and those weren’t even all of my scenes. But what I can say is this: Personally, the third season has been the most fun for me to film so far. I had an incredibly great time on set. Maybe it’s also because I got to show and do a little more – who knows? / When did you realize that you wanted to become an actor, and what inspired you along the way?

I actually started acting in children’s theater when I was eight years old. It was something that was advertised at my elementary school. A girl who was one grade below me at the time was also part of the theater group, and her mother was an agent. Since she represented many young actors, she took me into her agency. As a child, I already had many castings because of that, for example for Emil and the Detectives, The Wild Soccer Bunch, or Devil’s Kickers. I auditioned for many projects where, at first, you didn’t even know exactly what they were about – similar to Maxton Hall later on. However, I never really managed to establish myself as a child actor because I didn’t take it that seriously back then. I still remember my first rejection very well. As a child, that was obviously terrible for me. My mom picked me up after a casting in Munich, and I just cried because, at nine years old, I couldn’t understand why they hadn’t cast me (laughs). As a child, of course, you don’t yet understand how this business works. At the same time, though, that reaction showed me how badly I wanted it and how much I enjoyed it. That’s how it all started. I actually stayed with that agent all the way until Maxton Hall. She was also the one who got me the casting for the series back then.

So fing alles an.

That’s especially nice, of course! You’ve stayed connected to theater to this day. How does working on stage differ for you from working in front of the camera?

For example, I often watched Damian on set walking around completely focused until he was ready for the scene. I know that from myself as well. In theater, it doesn’t work in the same way because you perform the play from beginning to end.

The audience also makes a big difference. On a film set, there are extras watching, of course, but intimate or emotional scenes are usually filmed with as few people as possible. That’s completely different from performing every evening in front of 200 people with a different atmosphere and different background noises each time.

It always depends a lot on the script and the particular production. But the biggest difference is that in theater, four or five times a week, sometimes for a month or longer, you perform the same story from beginning to end every night. On a film set, on the other hand, you might spend an entire day or half a day filming one scene. After that, it’s done, over, and you move on. In film, you do repeat a scene several times, but once it’s finished, it’s really finished. In theater, you perform the entire play from the beginning again the next evening. Personally, I find that way of working very exhausting. In the spring, I performed in Munich in a four-hour play and had a very emotional role. Doing that all over again every evening was definitely challenging. On set, you might also have a difficult scene, but at some point it’s over, and you can prepare specifically for it. With emotional scenes, the

With film, the focus is also different, and you’re less on your own. Everyone there works together to help you get the best out of yourself for the final product. On stage, on the other hand, you’re more on your own throughout the entire evening. / Which factors are decisive for you when deciding whether to take on a project?

Unfortunately, the reality at the moment is that I can’t choose completely freely yet. I’m not at the point in my career where I can simply pick projects and say what I would like to do. Like everyone else, I have to go to castings normally. At the theater or in the independent scene, that might be a little easier. So at the moment, I’m 11

mainly open to different projects and happy about every exciting opportunity.

Is there still a particular role or genre that you would really like to try someday? Ja! Yes! Especially after Maxton Hall, I would like to play something really serious for once, for example a crime drama or a thriller. That would interest me – simply a completely different genre from Maxton Hall. © Instagram I govinda_gabriel

Besides acting, you’re also active in music. What significance does music have for you and your life?

Music has quite a big significance for me. Besides acting, playing the drums is probably what I’m best at. I occasionally earn money from it as well, and it’s definitely a big part of my life. However, I haven’t professionalized music as much as acting. As soon as you say, “I’m going to do this professionally now and try to make a career out of it,” it demands even more from you and can sometimes be very frustrating. With music, instead, I can say, “I’ll play whatever gig comes up, have fun, and that’s enough for me.” I also enjoy playing with my friends in a pub, everyone gets something for it, and we have a good time instead of necessarily having to be part of a big band. That’s why making music is something so personal to me. I do it to express myself, have fun, and connect. The feeling of getting an entire club to dance is simply amazing. Especially as a contrast to emotionally exhausting theater roles, it’s something completely different: You bring people joy instead of creating a heavy or emotional atmosphere.

Was gibt dir im Alltag neue Energie und Inspiration? / What gives you new energy and inspiration in everyday life?

Gute Frage! Good question! Honestly, by now, it’s mainly things like spending time with my friends, going out, meeting new people, or partying. Simply being with good friends probably inspires me the most. Of course, films and series also give me a lot of inspiration. I often go through phases where I very specifically watch the films of a particular actor or director. Then I almost study that person and try to watch their entire filmography. There are already quite a few names I’ve done that with. Sometimes, during a phase like that, I can hardly get into anything else. If I’m at someone’s place and they want to watch a particular movie, sometimes I don’t even know if

I can get into it because I’m so focused on that one person or filmography at that moment (laughs). Watching how different actors approach their roles definitely inspires me. Hast du dafür ein Beispiel? / Do you have an example for that?

Mark Ruffalo is very high up on my list. He also had his big breakthrough comparatively late, only in his early or mid-thirties. He started out with rather dark indie films and roles that were often very tragic. Personally, I really like that. He also doesn’t necessarily fit that classic “pretty boy” look, which I find interesting as well. I definitely find him extremely interesting. Of course, I could name many more people. In general, I find it exciting to see how today’s Alist actors got started. For me, that also includes watching their supposedly “bad” or forgotten films and observing how they deal with, for example, a weaker script.

What Awaits Us in Season 3 © Prime Video

A final chapter, unfinished questions, and a return to Maxton Hall one last time.

Two seasons brought us into the world of Maxton Hall. Now, one final chapter has to bring it all together. Ruby Bell and James Beaufort started out in completely different worlds, but their story quickly became about much more than romance - family, expectations, ambition and the question of how much your future is shaped by where you come from. Season 2 raised the stakes and left several stories unresolved. And that is exactly where the final chapter begins.

One Last Return to Maxton Hall Season 3 will mark our final return to the world of Maxton Hall, bringing Ruby and Jamesʼ story - and the stories surrounding James’ them - to an end. Based on Mona Kasten’s Kastenʼs third novel, Save Us, the final season is not only about what happens next. It is about where everything we have followed for the past two seasons will ultimately lead. For Ruby, the future she has worked towards from the very beginning suddenly feels far less certain. STAFF PICKS STAFF PICKS THE LOVE HYPOTHESIS

© Prime Video

Short Synopsis The Love Hypothesis follows Olive, a Ph.D. student who finds herself fake dating the last person she ever expected: Dr. Adam Carlson, the brilliant but intimidating professor everyone seems to fear. What starts as a simple arrangement soon becomes something much more complicated as real feelings begin to blur the lines.

The Love Hypothesis is one of those adaptations that simply feels good to watch. As someone who already loved the book, I was really happy with how the story was brought to the screen. It keeps the charm that made the original story so enjoyable while still working really well as its own rom-com.

Of course, there were a few scenes from the book that I personally would have loved to see make it into the film. But with any book adaptation, some moments inevitably have to be left behind - and for me, that never took away from the overall experience. What especially made the film work was the cast. The characters and their dynamics translated beautifully to screen, making the story just as fun and easy to get invested in as I had hoped. Overall, The Love Hypothesis is a really lovely adaptation and exactly the kind of rom-com you can put on, enjoy and probably end up wanting to watch again. As both a fan of the book and of the genre, I definitely left happy. Would I rewatch? Absolutely.

With “The Map of Longing” , Netflix has brought a new romance series to our screens that is about so much more than falling in love. At the heart of the story is Greta, whose life changes completely after the loss of her sister, Lucy. Before her death, Lucy leaves Greta a very personal challenge: a map filled with tasks that push her to leave her comfort zone, face her fears and discover what she truly wants from life. Then there is Will. What starts as an unexpected encounter slowly develops into a connection that is impossible to ignore. As Greta follows Lucy’s map, she and Will find themselves sharing moments that are sweet, funny and deeply emotional. But the closer they get, the more we begin to understand that both of them are carrying things beneath the surface. What makes “The Map of Longingˮ so special is how effortlessly it blends romance, self-discovery and emotion.

Set against the beautiful Spanish landscape, the story draws you in with its warm atmosphere and the undeniable chemistry between Greta and Will. The series completely captivated me from the very first episode to the very last – I laughed, I got emotional, I fell for Greta and Will, and I constantly wanted to know what would happen next. There is something wonderfully warm and intimate about watching Greta slowly open herself up to new experiences again. At the same time, the story never loses sight of the people and memories that shaped her. It is the kind of series that makes you want to press “next episode” even when you know you should probably go to bed. If you are looking for a romance with heart, beautiful scenery and characters you will quickly grow attached to, The Map of Longings is definitely one to add to your watchlist. 20

Soon in Cinemas: Corpus Delicti A Closer Look at Corpus Delicti with Lena Stahl “Corpus Delicti” takes place in a society where health has become the highest priority and citizens are expected to follow the strict rules of the state-controlled Method. At the center of the story is Mia Holl, whose faith is the system begins to unravel after her brother, Moritz, is accused of murder. Mia starts to question everything she knows about herself and the society she has been accustomed to. For director Lena Stahl, the appeal of “Corpus Delicti” went far beyond adapting Juli Zeh’s novel for the screen. Stahl explained that what first drew her to “Corpus Delicti” was the its intimate story intersects with much larger questions about society, freedom and control.

I was immediately interested in the philosophical and political potential of the story, especially in combination with a very emotional sibling relationship and the idea of turning it into a major genre film. There are hardly any films like this in German cinema. The story also deals with some of the biggest themes of our society – or perhaps of every society throughout the centuries: security versus freedom, the individual versus the collective, intimacy versus the public sphere. Making a film like this at this particular moment, when the overwhelming power of data is confronted with an increasingly transparent human being, and when total (digital) state control is already omnipresent in countries such as China, seemed particularly compelling to me. Through Stahl’s approach, “Corpus Delicti” becomes more than a dystopian story. It becomes a reflection on freedom and the systems we place our trust in, while never losing sight of the deeply personal relationship at the heart of the film.

One of the central ideas running through “Corpus Delicti” is the question of what freedom really means in a society shaped by control, infomration and competing versions of the truth. We asked Stahl how she views that idea today, particularly as the film places such importance on the human right to question and doubt.

I believe that the concept of freedom is unfortunately being misused by many groups at the moment, particularly by the new right. In a crucial scene in the film, Mia Holl says that we must not stop defending the truth, our right to doubt. For me, that is actually the core statement of the film. Doubt is a deeply human component. Without doubt, there is no knowledge or understanding; this is also true in science, and it has always been an important theme in religion as well. The idea that someone or something could take this possibility away from us is disturbing. At the same time, the internet is full of conspiracy theories and pathological doubt, while we are in the process of giving up control in an almost entirely unchecked way, particularly in the field of AI. It is a great contradiction. I personally see this as one of the greatest challenges of our time, and I would like us to engage in a broader and more sustained discussion about it. Stahl’s response highlights one of the the central tensions in “Corpus Delicti”: the importance of doubt in a world where truth, information and control are becoming increaseingly difficult to separate. Rather than offering an easy answer, the film asks audiences to consider what freedom and personal responsibility mean within that uncertainty.

At the center of “Corpus Delicti” is Mia Holl, a character whose journey is shaped not only by the system she begins to challenge, but by the persoanl risks that come with doing so. We asked Stahl about the importance of placing a complexn female protagonist at the heart of a genre film, and how her own perspective as both director and screenwriter influenced the way Mia was brought to the screen.

In my opinion, there are still too few films with strong female protagonists, particularly in the genre space. This was therefore also a central aspect in my decision to take on the project. Mia is an adult, highly educated and professional woman who has everything to lose and yet has the courage to stand up for who she is. A film always contains personal aspects, especially when, like me, you also write the screenplay. In this sense, Mia also embodies the “female experience,” referring to the specific social, psychological and cultural circumstances of life as a woman, which I naturally know well. Emotional circumstances, social pressures and unique challenges that characterize womanhood cannot be separated from my interpretation of this story. And apparently, they cannot be separated from the future either. Mia’s journey gives the film a deeply personal center, grounding its larger political and philosophical ideas in the experience of one woman navigating pressure, expectation and loss. Her strength does not come from being untouched by those forces, but from continuing to define herself in spite of them. That perspective adds another layer to “Corpus Delicti,ˮ allowing its dystopian world to feel intimate as well as unsettling.

Casting Hannah Herzsprung and Damian Hardung was key to making Mia and Moritz’s relationship feel believable. Stahl shared how both actors helped shape that bond on screen. 24

I already had Hannah in mind while writing, because to me she embodies a fascinating balance between strength and vulnerability, which I could very easily imagine for Mia. She is someone who completely dedicates herself to a project when it challenges her, and as Mia Holl, she was on set and in front of the camera every day except for one day of filming. She was a true partner for me, always committed to our shared vision. I discovered Damian in a new light. When I first contacted him, I didn’t know that he had already played Moritz Holl on stage once before. We began exchanging letters about the role, which I found very inspiring and constructive. He had already explored the role once and then reinterpreted it together with me. When I saw Hannah and Damian together for the first time during a read-through, I knew they had a very intuitive connection with each other that immediately made their sibling relationship believable. We then explored these emotions intensively during rehearsals and developed a shared history for the two characters that Hannah and Damian could draw on during filming. We had a very strong foundation together, which carried us through the truly demanding days of filming.

Overall, Stahl’s reflections reveal “Corpus Delicti” is shaped as much by its characters as by the questions it asks. At its heart, the film invites audiences to question, reflect and decide for themselves where they stand.

Corpus Delicti celebrated two premiere nights in Berlin and Munich. The cast, including Hannah Herzsprung, Damian Hardung, Alexander Fehling and Haley Louise Jones, joined director Lena Stahl on the red carpet alongside guests from the production. After watching the film ourselves at a pre-screening yesterday, Elise and I wanted to share one of our favourite scenes with you — and tell you why it stayed with us.

One of my favorite scenes as there are so many My favorite moment in the film is definitely one to pick from is when Heinrich Kramer walks into involving Mia and Moritz. Their relationship and the interrogation room and meets Moritz Holl for the way their bond is portrayed throughout the the first time. You could see the udder confusion story really touched me. The image I chose on Moritz’s face and throughout their whole captures that feeling beautifully and reflects the interaction the tension could be easily cut with a emotional connection between them without knife. That power dominance between a brother giving anything away. It’s a moment that and a possible “friend” to Mia was truly a genuinely brought me to tears and will stay with moment I will never forget. - Elise me for a long time. - Janina

Damian, obviously! Like many of us, I first discovered him through Maxton Hall. After that, I started learning more about his work as an actor and who he is as a person. I felt that more people should discover his work, so I decided to start a Thai fan page dedicated to him. What kind of content do you enjoy creating the most for your fan account, and is there a particular type of content you’re especially proud of? enjoy creating photo edits and fan posters the most, and it makes me happy to see other people enjoying them too. The one I’m especially proud of features three of Damian’s characters from three different projects:

If you could choose any Maxton Hall character other than James to spend a day with, who would you choose and what would you do together? I’d like to spend the day with Ruby. Iʼd take her to my favourite places in Thailand, try some delicious Thai food together, and find a quiet café where we could talk about anything and everything. The Maxton Hall fandom is such a creative and supportive community. What has being part of this fandom meant to you personally?

It means so much to me. I’ve felt welcome since I first started the page, and Iʼve received support from people all around the world. Whenever Iʼve needed advice or guidance, people have been willing to help, even though weʼve never met in person. For me, it really is the best fandom! What song would you choose to represent your Maxton Hall experience, and why? It doesn’t have to be from the Maxton Hall soundtrack, but it can be! “Long Live” by Taylor Swift. For me, Maxton Hall has become more than just a series. It has inspired me to do things I never thought I would do, like run a fan page and travel for something I love. Along the way, Iʼve made new friends and memories I never imagined making. This song captures that feeling of wanting to hold on to those special moments and the people who made them unforgettable. Is there a particular moment, scene, or storyline from Maxton Hall that you feel especially connected to, and why? For me, it’s Ruby and Jamesʼs love story as a whole. Maxton Hall tells a story we may have fallen in love with many times before: enemies becoming lovers, forbidden love, and two people from very different worlds finding each other.

What do you enjoy most about running your fan account? I enjoy learning new things and sharing my ideas with other fans through pictures and videos. But more than anything, I treasure the friendships I’ve made with people who share the same love for Damian and Maxton Hall. Your fan account has given you the opportunity to experience some very special moments. If you’d like to share: could you tell us a little about your experience of meeting Damian Hardung? What was that moment like for you? It was beyond anything I could have imagined. I went to Germany simply hoping to support Damian’s new film, Corpus Delicti. Then, the day before my flight, I found out I had a ticket to the premiere. That was already such an unexpected surprise! On the day of the Berlin premiere, Damian was very busy, so I didn’t initially get a chance to meet him. Just as I needed to go inside the cinema, he was heading outside to meet the fans again. Some friends I’d met in Germany pointed out that I had come from Thailand. He asked about me, and I came over to meet him. He gave me a warm hug, and we talked briefly before I had to go inside.

But what makes it magical is Ruby and James. Their chemistry and the way Harriet and Damian bring these characters to life make me believe in them and root for them. Their story gives me that feeling that true love is real, and I think that’s why it means so much to me.

28

I met him again the next day in Munich, and he greeted me by name. He remembered my name! We talked about my journey from Berlin to Munich and what I planned to do during my time in Germany. He was so kind. I still can’t quite believe I met him two days in a row. Has Maxton Hall or your experience of running a fan account changed the way you see certain things, or is there something you’ve learned along the way? When I started, I had no idea how to run a fan page or what I should post. I’ve learned so much along the way, from editing videos and using Canva to choosing content that I hope other fans will enjoy. Beyond running the account, Maxton Hall has taken me to places I never imagined visiting because of a show, including Oxford, Berlin, and Potsdam. Getting to stand in those filming locations and see them for myself has been such a wonderful experience. Has there been a Maxton Hall fandom moment or interaction that stayed with you? If so, what made it memorable? Yes. Since I started my page, I’ve received such a warm welcome from everyone in the Maxton Hall fandom. What I love most is that there doesnʼt seem to be any competition between us. We genuinely support one another, and if we know someone needs help, we reach out. I received so many lovely messages when Damian liked and commented on my posts, and even more after I finally had the chance to meet him. Everyone was incredibly supportive and genuinely happy for me, which meant a lot. It made me realize that we all came together because of our shared love

for the show. Even though we’re from different places and may have never met otherwise, Maxton Hall has created this wonderful community where people celebrate each otherʼs special moments. For me, thatʼs one of the things that makes Maxton Hall and its fandom so special. With Season 3 being the final chapter of Maxton Hall, what are you most looking forward to, and what do you hope the fandom will take away from the series? Honestly, I have mixed feelings about the final season. I’m so happy that James, Ruby, and the whole gang will be back on my screen, but at the same time, it will be very hard to say goodbye to a show and characters we love so much. Luckily, we can always go back and watch it all over again! I hope the fandom has enjoyed this journey as much as I have. As we look forward to this final chapter, I hope we can celebrate the show together and appreciate all the memories and friendships it has given us. Is there anything you’d like to say to our readers and fellow members of the Maxton Hall community? I’d like to say thank you for the friendships Iʼve made since starting this page and for all the kindness people have shown me along the way. The number of lovely messages I received when I met Damian meant so much to me. Thank you for sharing that happiness with me. Maxton Hall and Damian have brought us together from different parts of the world, and to me, that’s one of the things that makes this community so special.
