Heat the olive oil in a heavy skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Saute corn for 5 minutes, then add tomatoes, garlic, shrimp, and seafood seasoning and continue to cook for 2-3 more minutes. Stir in 1/2 the scallions and cook for 1 minute. Remove from pan and spoon over flatbread, sprinkle with remaining scallions.
Spicy Corn Cakes
In a large bowl mix together cornmeal, sugar and salt. Add in bell peppers, scallions, jalapeños, eggs, and milk and mix until well blended. Let the batter rest for 10 or 15 minutes. Add oil to just cover bottom of skillet and heat over medium-high heat. Spoon even amount of mixture into skillet and cook 3 or 4 minutes (you will see air holes). Flip and cook until golden brown. Serve warm with the succotash.
Where you keep your boat matters more than almost any other security measure. A marina with 24/7 surveillance cameras and controlled access beats a random parking lot every single time. Look for storage facilities that have proper lighting, fencing, and regular security patrols. These visible deterrents make theft less likely. Additionally, locked boat sheds offer even better protection, especially for smaller boats and valuable equipment. Ask potential storage locations about their security track record. How many incidents have they had? What security system do they use? Don’t be shy about these questions—reputable facilities expect them and have good answers ready!
2. Install a Quality Boat Security System
A proper boat security system serves as your first line of defense when you’re not around. Modern systems include motion sensor technology, alarm systems, and real-time alerts sent directly to your mobile phone.
Essential Security System Components:
• Motion sensor alarms that trigger when someone approaches
• Boat alarm with a loud siren to scare off thieves
• GPS tracking device for location monitoring
• Remote boat monitoring through smartphone apps
• Bilge alarm integration for comprehensive protection
The best boat monitoring systems let you check on your boat anytime, anywhere. You’ll get instant alerts if something’s wrong, giving you time to respond before damage occurs.
3. Use Multiple Physical Locks to Secure Your Boat
Basically, burglars look for quick, easy scores. Make your boat and trailer harder to steal by using multiple types of locks that slow them down! Start with a quality trailer hitch lock— this simple device prevents someone from hooking up and driving away with your boat. Next, add wheel locks on the trailer for another layer of protection. For the boat itself, steering wheel locks and propeller locks create serious obstacles. Furthermore, use marine-grade locks that resist cutting and weather damage. Cheap locks give you false security—invest in quality hardware that actually works.
4. Never Leave Keys or Valuables Onboard
Create a routine of taking your keys with you every time you leave the boat. Store them in a secure location at home, not on the boat, in your car, or even your tackle box. Additionally, remove or secure expensive electronics, fishing gear, and any other items that are easily accessible.
5. Make Your Boat Identifiable and Traceable
A GPS tracking device does more than help you find a stolen boat - it discourages theft
in the first place. Thieves know tracked boats are harder to sell and easier to recover. Mark your boat with your Hull Identification Number (HIN) in multiple hidden locations. Engrave your driver’s license number on expensive equipment. You should also take detailed photos of your boat, trailer, and all equipment for insurance purposes. Additionally, it’s wise to install tracking systems that send location updates to your mobile phone in real time. Some systems even let you set geo-fences that alert you if your boat moves outside a designated area.
6. Establish Security Routines When Your Boat’s In Use
Boat security doesn’t stop when you’re actively using your boat. It’s essential to form smart security habits that keep your vessel safe.
Daily Security Habits:
• Lock your boat every time you step away, even briefly
• Remove keys from the ignition when swimming or fishing
• Check that all locks are engaged before leaving
• Store life jackets and safety equipment out of sight
strategies. That’s why it is crucial to remove all electronics, expensive fishing gear, and portable equipment before winter storage. These items are easier to secure in your home anyway. Check on your boat regularly throughout the off-season. Frequent visits can show activity and help you spot problems early.
8. Review Your Insurance and Document Everything
Even with perfect boat theft prevention measures, insurance remains your financial safety net. Review your policy to understand what’s covered and what’s not. Document your boat thoroughly with photos, serial numbers, and receipts for all equipment. Keep this documentation in a safe location, not on the boat itself.
Protecting
Your Investment Year-Round
Boat theft prevention works best when you stack multiple security measures together! No single solution stops everything, but combining physical locks, electronic monitoring, smart storage, and solid habits can deter thieves. Start with the basics: secure storage, highquality locks, and a reliable boat security system. Build from there based on what makes sense for your situation and budget. Boat owners who take security seriously can feel confident that their boat is safe. These prevention tips provide everything you need to keep your boat secure, whether you’re using it daily or storing it all winter!

Dometic Unveils GVTX 48VDC — Smart, Sustainable Air Conditioner for Battery-Powered Boats
Dometic’s new 48V battery powered HVAC system is designed with both OEMs and end users in mind, offering a compact size, streamlined installation and ease of service. The Dometic GVTX48V’s plug-and-play modularity, quiet operation and high-static EC blower are ideal for a wide range of vessels and layouts.
Dometic Marine recently unveiled the new GVTX 48V Battery Powered Air Conditioning system. This innovation is an ideal solution for a growing segment of the recreational boating market that uses advanced battery and alternator systems to power onboard equipment.
This next-generation climate control solution is built on Dometic’s award-winning TX platform, delivering powerful, energy efficient, and intelligent performance in a compact design that is intuitive to operate and easy to install and service.
With this system, customers can connect the unit directly to a 48V power source. This not only simplifies installation, but it also improves the system’s overall efficiency.
Dometic’s proven Variable Capacity Compressor dynamically adjusts output based on environmental conditions and realtime demands, ensuring optimum comfort for boaters while minimizing power draw. It is available in two sizes that provide cooling in 10,000BTU/h to 18,000BTU/h capacity. The GVTX 48V operates directly from the 48V batter bank, making it the best HVAC solution for an evolving class of battery-powered layouts. The GVTX 48VDC is designed for future integration with Dometic’s upcoming battery management systems.
“Modern battery technology and proven innovations like our Variable Capacity compressors are bringing new levels of comfort to more kinds of boats around the world,” said Dometic Marine Segment President Eric Fetchko. “Advances such as our GVTX 48VDC provide reliable, sustainable comfort for an enhanced boating experience aboard a whole new class of vessels,” added Fetchko.
To ensure optimum performance and run time in real-world conditions, this system features an integrated Battery Monitoring System that actively protects onboard power reserves by preventing over discharge. This gives boaters greater peace of mind whether they are cruising on electric
power, drifting all day on the offshore fishing grounds, or anchored in a remote cove.
Dometic provides independent control that lets boaters customize operation for efficiency, tranquility, or comfort. Settings include Eco Mode to limit the maximum power used by the unit, Quiet Mode for a peaceful night’s rest, and Scheduling Mode that lets boaters choose pre-set times to cool or heat areas of the vessel. Dometic’s Zoning feature also enables control of multiple units through a single display over the NMEA 2000 network.
Dometic’s robust construction includes long life Titanium condenser coils and a BLDC high-velocity rotatable blower. The system also includes a standard sound cover to ensure quiet operation and a better boating experience. Like all newgeneration Dometic marine climate and refrigeration systems, the GVTX 48VDC runs on R454B “green” refrigerant with a lower Global Warming Potential (BWP) rating.

Inshore Fishing Report
Snook have pushed back heavily into the upper and back bays with the shorter photo period and cooler mornings. They’re staging at sun-drenched, wind-protected shorelines and ambush points like creek mouths, mangrove points, and deeper edges. Fish the solunar majors and minors with slow-rolled paddletails, shrimp imitations, or live white bait. Midday, think shade and flow— docks, bridge pilings, and deeper troughs.
Redfish are on the move and feeding. Follow the mullet schools across the flats, oyster bars, and island points. When they get picky, switch to cut offerings: fresh threadfin, ladyfish, or pinfish chunks on a 2/0–3/0 circle hook with 20–30 lb leader. On higher tides, push tight to the bushes; as water falls, work the edges and potholes.
Trout are biting well and sliding shallower during cooler mornings, then easing to the edges by mid-day. Target 3–5 ft grass/ sand mix with soft plastics on 1/8–1/4 oz jigheads or free-lined live shrimp. At night, dock and bridge lights can be loaded— present small baits naturally and avoid heavy hardware.
Flounder have been active on sandy seams adjacent to structure—jetty eddies, beach troughs, and the sand skirts around docks. Hop a bucktail or a 3–4” grub tight to the bottom and cover ground; long pauses trigger strikes.
Sheepshead numbers are building. Work pilings, rock piles, and jetty corners with small pieces of shrimp, fiddler crabs, or oysters on size 1–1/0 hooks, light leader, and just enough weight to hold.
Spanish mackerel around deeper passes and bridges on moving water. Fast, flashy spoons or gotcha-style plugs shine; long-shank hooks help with teeth. Small black drum may mix on the flats and oysters; bigger drum patrol bridges—bring crabs or larger shrimp.
Nearshore Fishing Report
Hogfish are a headline target right now. Cold snaps bunch them up; stable weather keeps them chewing. Our go-to is live shrimp on light tackle: 4000–5000 series spinner, 20–30 lb braid to 10–15 ft of 30 lb mono/ fluoro, knocker rig with 1–2 oz egg sinker and a 3/0–4/0 hook. Think smaller ledges, patches of flat hard bottom, and shell seams in 40–70 ft. Work patiently—grunts and porgies usually fire first, then the hogs.
Mackerel are thick and bait pods are pushing threadfins along the beaches. Have a trolling spread (spoons, planers, small plugs) ready on the way out, and a flat-line ready over structure. Kingfish are in the mix—wire or long-shank options help and keep a pitch rod rigged with a stinger for sky-rocket bites.
Lane Snapper are steady, especially deeper near shore (50–90 ft). Squid gets quick action; bigger lanes prefer live shrimp or smaller threadfin chunks. Mangrove Snapper have been hit-or-miss in the shallows but improve as you stretch toward the deepest near-shore edges— downsize to 30–40 lb leader, 3/0–4/0 double-snell with 1-2 inch long threadfin chunks.
Red Grouper are occasional near shore; the keeper ratio improves with depth. If you stay inside 100 ft, commit to moving until you find a good patch of flat hard bottom or small potholes, then feed them whole squid, bonita strips, or
The past week leading up to our latest cold front has brought some excellent action for anglers joining Naples fishing charters and Marco Island fishing charters. Before the weather shift, the bite was steady across the board with good numbers of snook, redfish, sea trout, jack crevalle, mangrove snapper, and even some juvenile tarpon holding deep in the backcountry. The nearshore racks and beaches have been loaded with live bait, giving anglers plenty of opportunities to fill the wells before heading out for a full day of guided fishing trips.
As the first real taste of cool weather settles into Naples, Florida, we can expect these fish to start pushing deeper into the creeks, rivers, and bays. This temperature drop is often the trigger that really gets our backcountry fishing fired up. The snook and redfish will move toward warmer, shallower pockets, creating great opportunities for sight-casting and fly fishing enthusiasts. Anglers looking for Marco Island snook fishing or Naples snook fishing will want to focus on working shorelines with good current flow and structure
where the fish are staging. Marco Island red fishing and Naples redfish activity has also been consistent, especially on the lower tides when the reds are pushing along oyster bars and mangrove edges hunting for shrimp and small baitfish. The cooler water tends to concentrate them, making this a great time to book a guided fishing trip with local fishing guides who know where these fish like to stack up after a front. The mix of mangrove snapper and jack crevalle continues to provide plenty of action for anglers looking for variety, and those smaller tarpon tucked deep in the backcountry have been offering some thrilling moments on lighter tackle.

lively pinfish.
Offshore Fishing Report
Red Grouper remain the principal target over flat hard bottom, potholes, and low relief ledges. Big dead baits—bonita strips, whole squid, Boston mackerel—and stout live offerings (pinfish, squirrel fish) on 60–80 lb leader and 7/0–10/0 circles are the ticket. Keep hopping until you land on life, then grind in that depth range to fill up on the numbers. Stick and move is the game.
Mangrove Snapper are steady with quality fish in the mix. Cut threadfin on a 5/0–6/0 double-snell is our workhorse; for the real bruisers, step up to small/medium pinfish on 40–60 lb leaders. Yellowtail Snapper respond to lighter tackle (around 40 lb), smaller hooks, and thin squid strips— especially near dusk, dawn, and at night.
Mutton Snapper have been a welcome surprise—fish a medium pinfish on lighter leaders and be patient. Triggerfish are chewing on 2” chewy squid or bonita strips; keep baits compact for their small mouths. Scamp Grouper show when your fishing some ledges or potholes with medium pinfish and 50–60 lb leader.
Pelagics: keep a flat-line or two set—blackfin tuna, kingfish, mahi, and the occasional wahoo have been cruising. Jigs and live baits get opportunistic strikes while you’re bottom fishing; on the move, small lipped divers and feathers cover water efficiently.

Pablo Creek - Duval, FL Fishing Report
November is a favorite month of mine for inshore fishing. “No more sweating!!!!!!!” you may enjoy, no snow. No ice. But bring a hooded sweatshirt. One with a hood for the cool N.E. Florida mornings is a anglers friend. November is a transitional month. And it seems to not last long. Water temps cool off, and fish species become more active or just plain easier to find willing to eat. Plus, the undesirables usually “back-off”. “”””””visitors”””””” don’t know that 110 degrees in the shade when they want fish to jump in the boat like a ole miller lite beer commercial, is n-o-t prime time for inshore fishing.
Transitional times are best and all winter long. A very short winter!
Another prime month is April. Going from cool water to warmer. But still hot water to cool water is still my favorite. Maybe because it’s all I think about while it’s so hot all summer long. Yeah, while fishing is July & Augusts heat, I’m dreaming of November!
And tourists are unaware. They are on vacation, kids are out of school, the whole 9 yards. But if
you are a serious angler, you should be thinking, November thru April.
But with that comes weather. Nothing is free. We will have to plan. My oldest saying in the charter biz is; “as of October 1st, always have a back up date in mind” people forget about hurricane season. But, by November it’s usually over.
Mayport Basin - Duval, FL Fishing Report
Full moon ‘’massive’’ negative low tide and the best way to fillet reds & drum. Fished the creeks during a super negative tide. The water was so low, that even my boat had to leave out while using the trolling motor. It was way shallow in some places, literally inches, of what usually would have been a foot or more. Loads of small redfish, of non-keeper status. But we did end up with our 2 keepers at 19 & 21 inches. I caught a 4 inch speckled trout on a 3.5 inch lure! Smallest trout I’ve personally ever caught. We only had a few trout and all were small, nonkeepers. The trout in the creeks are still small, despite the amount of bait thats back in the creeks.
Because of the time change, I told Ron to meet us at the dock by 6:30 am. My alarm was set for 5:15 am, but I didn’t wake up until 5:45. Tania and I hurried to get ready, grabbed ice and shrimp on the way, and arrived at the dock right at 6:30am Unfortunately, Ron and Patricia got there before us. I usually like to be early with everything loaded, but today we made it just in time.
Once we arrived at the dock, we met up with Ron and Patricia, loaded the boat, and left around 6:45 am. While heading to the Boils, we saw many birds and bait busting the surface of the water, so we stopped and cast a few times to see what we could catch. I caught the first fish, a nice-sized whiting, which surprised me. We stayed here for about 15 minutes, during which we caught three 6-inch Crocker, which went into the live well, along with a few whiting and a weakfish.
Since the bite was slow at this spot, I decided to push on to the Boils. When we finally
arrived, we were one of two boats there. The boat that beat us was on the west side of the Boils, which was perfect because we wanted to fish the buoy on the east side. Our first drift was productive, although most of what we caught was small jacks. I was hoping for at least some larger jacks, but we were all having fun.
We fished the boils until about 10:30 am, and it was a pretty productive day. We caught countless jacks, blue runners, lane snapper, various ladyfish, a few Spanish mackerel, and a pompano. But Ron was asking for more fish to take home, so I decided to move to our black margate spot.
Our Margate spot didn’t let us down. By noon, we had gone through four dozen shrimp and had a cooler full of margates and a few snapper. While Ron and Tania used up the last of the shrimp, I put circle hooks on our bigger rods since I wanted to use the croaker at the inlet on the way back.
We reached the inlet around 12:15 pm, with two rods set up and ready. When we arrived at the north point, I had Tania cast her bait at the rocks, while I cast my rod on the other side of the boat and handed it to Ron. I was planning to drive the boat while we drifted in. About 10
Mullet from 3 inches to 20 inches everywhere! If only the bait was speckled sea trout instead, boy would I be happy......”but that would make this area’s name be Louisiana, instead of Florida””
Before leaving out of the creek, i dropped a float-rig over the side with a huge live shrimp on the hook an drifted the rig under the dock in the photo, and caught this nice black drum. I love me some creek black drum almost as much as big speckled trout. Of course as the tide fell, the redfish were insane. Busting bait in the shallows with their backs out of the water. No matter how many times ya see them, I still get excited and want to keep catching. But we had to go. Didn’t want to get stuck up in there.
Gear & tackle used: casting and soft plastics and live shrimp on a floatrig
minutes later, Ron got a big hit, but I forgot to tell him he had a circle hook on, so he yanked the hook out of the fish’s mouth. During this, Tania got broken off. Unfortunately, the last bait wasn’t very lively and died before we caught anything.
Around 12:45 pm, we headed back to the dock. It turned out to be a great day, and we had a cooler full of meat. It was a fun trip to the grocery store. We got back to the dock around 1:00 pm, and once we unloaded the boat, I started cleaning all the fish. It took me nearly thirty minutes to clean the table full of fish. We kept six black margate, three lane snapper, two whiting, two Spanish mackerel, one weakfish, and one pompano.
All in all, we had an excellent day on the water with great company. Tania and I send our best wishes to all our fellow anglers. May your time on the water be safe, blessed, and filled with tight lines and good memories. Until next time, keep casting, keep believing, and keep chasing those dreams on the water.

UNITED STATES COAST GUARD FLOTILLA 7-16 OFFERS SAFE BOATING CLASSES IN GULFPORT, FL, MEETS THE THIRD WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH.
These classes qualify the attendee for the FWC Safe Boating Card. This card is required for most people born after January 1, 1988 to legally operate a power boat with greater than 10hp motor in Florida. The one-day class includes instruction on safety equipment, boat handling, rules of the road, navigation aids, communications, trailering, legal requirements and others. Power and sailboats are covered, as well as personal watercraft. Of course, besides making a boater in compliance, the main goal of the class is to create a safer boater. Classes are offered on the second Saturday of each month. To sign up, contact Marty Richardson at (630)674-5352. Flotilla 7-16 also performs free courtesy vessel safety inspections for power and sail boats, personal watercraft, and paddle craft. The inspector will come to your location, inspect the required safety features of your vessel, and if you pass will provide a safety sticker to mount on your vessel. The inspection is a courtesy, so no action is taken if problems are found. But the vessel owner then knows of any deficiencies to correct before having an accident or being sanctioned by the Coast Guard. To get more information or to schedule an inspection, contact Howard Bush at (305)731-3580. Anyone interested is invited to attend. Contact Flotilla Commander Howard Bush for more information at (305)731-3580.

A VESSEL SAFETY CHECK - STUARTDespite numerous COVID-19 restrictions, more and more boaters are taking to the water to alleviate at-home boredom while taking advantage of the open-air benefits and more pandemic-free aspects of recreational boating. But if you haven’t been out boating in a while, are your vessel’s lights operating properly? Do you have a sufficient number of life jackets for the number of passengers aboard? Is your engine’s ventilation system up to par? To get you started on a new year boating adventure, now may be a perfect time to consider getting a 2025 Vessel Safety Check (VSC) offered by certified VSC examiners from the St. Lucie River Power Squadron, also known as America’s Boating Club of Martin County. These trained VSC examiners from the local squadron will point out safety features such as minimum requirements required by the U.S. Coast Guard, examine fundamental mechanical aspects of your vessel, and answer questions how you can have more fun safely on the water. These are just a few of the many discussion points covered in this voluntary examination. As an added plus, Vessel Safety Checks are free to boat owners. And if you don’t “pass muster” with the thorough examination, the summary report is yours and yours alone. No record of any possible deficiencies will be reported to the USCG, state agency or any other authority. Want to know more about this complimentary Vessel Safety Check program? Contact Peter Burns at (772) 486-2684 or burnspet@aol.com. St. Lucie River Power Squadron, one of more than 300 squadrons nationwide, also offers safe boating classes to the public. Check on their website, www.slrps.org, when classes will resume. Information
about the parent organization is available at www.usps.org.

Fort Myers, Fla. (Nov. 5, 2025) – Legacy Harbour Marina, located along the Caloosahatchee River in downtown Fort Myers, is now accepting inquiries and forming a waitlist for future slip reservations through Dockwa, a digital marina management platform that connects boaters and marinas nationwide.
The marina, which sustained significant damage during Hurricane Ian in 2022, is being fully redeveloped under the direction of AIRN Management, LLC, in partnership with Bellingham Marine. Construction began in early 2025, and the reopening is anticipated in the first quarter of 2026.
As part of the modernization, Legacy Harbour will feature 131 slips ranging from 40 to 150 feet. The redesign incorporates Bellingham Marine’s Unifloat concrete wave attenuator system, supported by 70foot steel piles, and interior slips with a Unideck aluminum frame dock system and WearDeck synthetic decking. Planned infrastructure upgrades include new utilities such as potable water, in-slip pump-out, fire suppression, fiberglass dock boxes, and both single- and three-phase power.

Boaters can join the waitlist now by visiting fmlegacyharbour.com and selecting “Request a Slip.” Slip reservations are expected to open closer to the 2026 debut. For additional information, contact Eric Ravenschlag at EricR@airnmanagement.com.
