SCOUT UNVEILS THE LARGEST OUTBOARD POWERED YACHT IN THE WORLD, THE ALL-NEW 670 LXS
Summerville, SC – Scout Boats, Inc. headquartered in Summerville, South Carolina - has unveiled the all-new 670 LXS at their facility during an exclusive VIP event. Coming in at 66’ 9”, the 670 LXS is the world’s largest outboard powered yacht in the world. The newest flagship will officially debut to the public at the Palm Beach International Boat Show, March 19-23, 2025, in Palm Beach, Florida.
The 670 LXS is the first in the 67 LX Series and was designed in partnership with world renown super yacht design studio Harrison Eidsgaard. Scout’s flagship series will encompass two unique models including the 670 LXS (Luxury Sport Model) and the 670 LXF (Luxury Fish Model).
The 67’ LX Series versions will be powered with five (5) Mercury V-12 600 HP engines, producing 3,000HP and a projected top speed of 60 MPH, a fast cruise of 40 MPH, and a range of approximately 500 miles.
“We’ve experienced tremendous success over the years as we’ve continued to create and produce the most exciting, innovative, sophisticated, and high performing products sought on the market today, and that’s been most recently evident with the success of our current 530 LXF flagship,” said Scout CEO/Founder Steve Potts. “We want to continue to raise the industry bar for class, comfort, and style and naturally we knew the next evolution for the Scout brand was the 670 LX Series. Our dedicated team of designers and engineers, coupled with our partnership with world-renown UK-based super yacht design studio Harrison Eidsgaard has worked tirelessly on this project, developing a product that is second to no other boat in its market and that is what sets it apart.”
Featuring three state rooms below deck, three interior color options, multiple lounge areas throughout the boat, articulating rocket launchers with a SureShade, retractable port, starboard, and aft window, a retractable sunroof, dual hydraulic beach platforms, and so much more the all-new 670 LXS takes the innovation and luxury Scout is known for to an all-new level.
“We were thrilled when Scout Boats approached us on collaborating on this project.” says Peder Eidsgaard, one of the founders of Harrison Eidsgaard, the London-based design company who worked with Scout Boats on the exterior and interior design of this new flagship.
“It is the result of the synergy between Scout Boats’ vast experience in the sport fishing market combined with Harrison Eidsgaard’s experience in the superyacht design industry and drive to innovate. The design is a harmony of Scout Boats’ sport fish heritage injected with superyacht detailing and styling, with key features comprising of long flowing lines from bow to aft in combination with the signature aft leg that runs into the hardtop ‘pods’.”
The 670 LX Series project has been internally referred to by Scout as “Project Everest” since it began inception in 2021 and has been produced with state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques that Scout has utilized at its facility for years and continues to pioneer.
“We’ve poured everything we have into this new flagship, and we are excited that the public can now see what we have spent the last three years developing,” continued Potts. “This model is not just for our customers who want to move up from the 530 LXF. This model elevates the entire Scout lineup, and we have no doubt that some of the innovative developed for this model will trickle down into the full model line.’
Scout currently builds luxury sportfishing center console, dual console, luxury crossover and inshore/bay boat models ranging from 17’ to 67’. Since its founding over three decades ago, the company’s goal has been to manufacture the bestbuilt boats in its distinctive sportfishing niches. Each Scout hull is a true original, as the in-house research and design team works closely with engineering to take concepts from blueprint to production more efficiently, growing the company’s worldclass reputation for quality, strength, durability and value. Boating: The Ultimate Summer Hack for Every Budget
Thinking about vacation plans? If you’re like the 91% of NerdWallet respondents who said they’re looking to save on travel this summer, boating should be on your radar.
Not only can boating be more affordable than other types of vacations, being on the water allows you and your loved ones to disconnect from distractions on land and to relax and unwind from everyday life close to home. It is an on-demand vacation, meaning you don’t have to plan your trip far in advance, or deal with airports, traffic and crowds. You’ve got the freedom to float away whenever paradise calls—think sun on your face, fresh breeze in
your hair, and great company with nowhere to be but here.
Boating vs. Other Types of Vacations
You can enjoy the boating lifestyle without breaking the bank. In fact, boat financing, boat rentals and boat clubs offer cost-effective summer vacation opportunities that many people overlook.
Here’s a look at how boating getaways through ownership, rentals and clubs compare to a more traditional vacation at an all-inclusive resort:
As you can see, boating, whether through ownership, rentals or club memberships is an accessible, flexible alternative to a traditional one-week vacation. By taking advantage of these options, you can enjoy multiple “mini vacations” anytime you want for a fraction of the price of a single, short-term trip.
For example, you may dish out $6,000 for four people to go on an all-inclusive trip to Mexico or put that same amount of money towards two months’ worth of, day-long weekend getaways with as few or many people as you’d like through boat rentals. When you consider what you get with boating – fun, freedom and relaxation in nature with your friends and family–it is more accessible than you may have thought.
Benefits of Boat Rentals and Boat Clubs
Versatility: You won’t have to stick to one type of vessel. Boat rentals and boat clubs give you the chance to reserve various boats based on your unique needs, preferences, and party size. For example, you can choose a pontoon boat for a casual outing with your family one day and a spacious yacht for a birthday celebration with 10 people the next. Plus, you’re not tied down to one location, as boats are available throughout the country. The opportunities are endless.
Flexibility: While traditional vacations often require a great deal of planning, boat ownership, rentals and boat clubs open the doors to on-demand vacations. So, what exactly does this mean? You can decide to go boating in the morning and be on the water that afternoon. There’s no need to plan your boating getaway weeks or months in advance (unless you want to, of course). Spontaneous days on the water are well within reach, especially if you already own your own boat.
Treat Yourself to a Summer of Boating Bliss
If you’re ready for a relaxing summer of on-water adventures that create long-lasting memories, boat financing, boat club memberships or boat rentals are worth exploring. You can enjoy the fresh air, sunshine, and soothing sounds of the waves when you want, where you want, at a price that won’t break the bank. Explore ways to get on the water near you.

• 1 large head Florida curly endive, rinsed and cut in half lengthwise
• 6 ounces Florida snap beans, ends trimmed and cooked
• 1/2 cup Florida cherry tomatoes
• 1/3 cup Florida radishes, rinsed and quartered
• 2 large Florida eggs, hardboiled and sliced
• 1 ½ cup small Florida potatoes, boiled and cut into bite size pieces
• 1/2 cup Kalamata or Niçoise olives, pitted
• 1 teaspoon olive oil
For Vinaigrette:
• 1/2 lemon, juiced
• 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
• 2 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped very fine
• Sea salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste
• 3 tablespoons olive oil
Preparation:
Preheat a large sauté pan over medium-high heat. Shake off any excess water from rinsing the curly endive to make sure the curly endive is as dry as possible. Add 1 teaspoon of olive oil to the preheated pan. Carefully place the curly endive cut side down in the preheated sauté pan. Cook the curly endive for 2 to 3 minutes, just long enough to get some caramelization and color. Remove the wilted curly endive from the pan and let rest on a plate with a paper towel to drain. Season the wilted curly endive with sea salt and fresh ground pepper to taste. To prepare the vinaigrette, use a small bowl and whisk. Add the lemon juice, Dijon and garlic. While whisking ingredients, slowly add the 3 tablespoons of olive oil. Whisk ingredients until everything is emulsified. Taste vinaigrette and adjust seasoning with sea salt and fresh ground pepper. To assemble the salad, arrange the curly endive, sliced tuna, snap beans, cherry tomatoes, radish, olives, sliced eggs and potatoes on a platter in a fun manner. Drizzle the Dijon vinaigrette over the entire salad. Season the entire salad with sea salt and fresh ground pepper.

Pumpout Nav, a freeiOS and Android app, displays publicly available pumpouts, pumpout boats, and portable toilet dump stations, in Florida, in a map or list view. The app includes the exact location of the pumpout, its cost, hours, and a timestamped status which tells users if the unit works or not.
It can be frustrating to go through the effort of moving your boat to a pumpout, only to find out the pumpout unit is broken. Pumpout Nav hopes to help eliminate that frustration for its app users. All pumpouts in the app are color coded:
t Unit Operational
t Unit Non-Operational
t Problem Reported
t
Call for Status
Boaters can “report a problem” with a pumpout or that a “unit works” directly through the app. This updates the unit’s status and timestamp for all other app users to see. Additionally, if a problem is reported, that automatically emails Clean Vessel Act staff who then offer the facility assistance in getting that unit repaired.
Boaters can create a personalized account in the app to log their pumpout activity, save their favorite pumpout locations, and plan their next pumpout stop.
Additionally, the app hosts a wealth of information in the “Learn” section, including videos on how to pumpout, marine composting toilets, all applicable sewage related laws, tips for maintaining a functional and clean Marine Sanitation Device, and more. There’s even a section for marina and yacht club staff called “Dockmaster Corner.”
Functional pumpout stations are critical for boaters to properly dispose of boat waste and protect water quality.Use Pumpout Nav to finda pumpout that works and report a problem or that a unit works. Want to learn more about the app? Watch this indepth tutorial of Pumpout Nav at bit.ly/4kgW76R

TIDES FOR FLORIDA’S GULF COAST: JUNE 2025
TIDES FOR FLORIDA’S ATLANTIC COAST: JUNE 2025
with Captain Sergio Atanes Captain’sCorner
Ladies n Reds
This document provides insights on fishing for redfish, particularly in the Tarpon Key area, emphasizing the importance of patience and strategy. It highlights the differences in fishing approaches between men and women, with women often being more successful by following instructions.
• Fishing strategies for redfish: Successful redfish fishing requires patience and positioning; anglers should avoid chasing fish and instead set up ambush points. It’s crucial to chum with both live and cut bait while maintaining a distance to avoid spooking the fish.
Collaboration among anglers: Working as a team with other anglers can enhance the fishing experience. Captains often form circles around schools of fish, sharing the opportunity to catch redfish while ensuring the school remains concentrated and feeding.
Two things I can count on this time of the yearis having the ladies catching fish and finding big redfish in the flats, which makes for a great combination. When I have couples on the boat I can always count on the ladies getting the biggest and most fish, and that is because they listen to the captain and follow instructions. Men on the other hand, within a few minutes are back doing their own macho thing.
When fishing for reds, look for their usual hangout, their return to the same spot year after year. Tarpon Key is one hot spot year after year. The secret is to be patient. Look for other boats and learn to read the area and set up an ambush point. Let the fish come to you and don’t try chasing them down with your trolling motor. You will only accomplish pushing them away.
When you spot the school of redfish, position your
boat up wind from them to give yourself greater casting distance. The big reds can spook easily so the further away you are the better. Chum with both cut and live bait. I give my clients the rods with live bait while Rodney (my rod holders) gets the one with cut threadfin with a #5 split shot which keeps the dead bait on the bottom, and remember that redfish are bottom feeders. By the way, Rodney the rod holder has out fished many of my clients by being my silent angler and catcher of big fish. When fishing in heavy grass area try using a float and suspend the bait just above the grass line. This keeps the bait from hiding in the grass and lets the bait travel with the current, giving you a better chance on finding the fish.
Work as a team with other anglers in the area. You will often see us captains form a circle around the school of redfish, and we throw chum into the center to keep the fish concentrated and feeding. If you see this and decide to join in, most anglers will let you, but just don’t try to move in on the fish, as this will only breakup the school.Work your boat alongside another boat and ask for permission first.
You’ll find that most anglers will let you join in on the fun.
Every boat takes turn throwing chum into the school, which will give everyone a chance to catch some fish.
The average size of these redfish range from 30 to 38 inches (15 to 25 pounds), and to me they are one of the best fighting fish on the flats bar none.
Snook will give a quick hard run and maybe a jump but redfish will fight to the end. In fact, never release one after a hard fight. Hold the redfish in the water until she decides to swim away, otherwise she may go to bottom and die from exhaustion.
My tackle is simple; 71/2 ft. rod, mediumaction fast tapered with a 300 reel, a full spool of 15-pound test Fins Windtamer braided line, and 32 inches of 30-pound fluorocarbon leader with a 2/0 circle hook. The only time I use J hooks is if I have clients who keep trying to set the hook,so I have no choice but to use a J hook.
Big redfish are residents of Tarpon Key, Joel Island and outside mangrove areas of Bishop’s Harbor. They are year round residents except in August when water temperature gets too high and they move into deeper waters. If your bait starts to die in the flats, then it’s too hot for the fish to bite.
with Captain Dylan Hubbard West Central Florida
Inshore Fishing Report
Snook are thick in the passes and along the beaches right now, taking full advantage of the bait flows pushed by strong tides.
Mangrove snapper are starting to stack up too, both in the passes and around bridges and dock lines. Virtually any hard structures are holding active mangrove snapper lately.
Redfish remain consistent, and anglers willing to fish deeper, shaded areas like under docks and mangrove points are finding some solid fish.
Trout action has slowed a bit with the heat, but you can still find them around deeper grass flats and tidal cuts with good moving water.
Flounder are spotty, but there’s a handful being caught around sandy drop-offs and edges near hard structure.
Pompano are popping up, especially around jetty points and beach troughs.
Tarpon are everywhere right now— rolling in the passes, cruising along the beaches, and staging near bridges.
Spanish mackerel are thick inshore, and sharks are hot on their heels with everything from blacktips to bull sharks showing up in strong numbers.
Fishing Tips
• Snook: Use live baits like greenbacks, threadfins, and shrimp, or try flair hawks and soft plastics at night.
• Redfish: Look for them around mangroves, oyster bars, and flats, and use dead baits during higher tides.
• Trout: Target them with soft plastics, white bait, and shrimp around deeper flats and potholes.
• Tarpon: Target them during the full moon with crab flushes, making it an ideal time to target them.
• Flounder: Find them near sandy bottoms and structures, biting on bottom baits.
• Pompano: Be prepared to move frequently to stay on their bite.
• Sharks: Use big dead baits in areas with moving water.
Nearshore Fishing Report
Lane snapper action remains solid in the 60 to 100 ft range with a great mix of size and quantity.
Mangrove snapper are becoming more consistent, especially in deeper nearshore waters approaching that 100 ft mark.
Red grouper are still being caught, though you’ll need to fish deeper and be patient— we’re seeing a few good ones on live and dead baits.
Hogfish have slowed considerably as the water warms, but the occasional fish is still being picked up on lighter tackle and live shrimp.
Mackerel continue to provide fun, fast-paced action near shore, particularly around bait-rich areas along the beach.
Kingfish have mostly moved on with the rise in water temps, but every now and then we’re still seeing one show but mostly offshore.
Fishing Tips
• Red Grouper: Target the deepest near shore waters with big dead baits or solid live baits. Use 60 lb test and 7/0 hooks for best results.
• Red Snapper: Use big dead baits like whole squid and bonita strips with heavy tackle to focus on larger fish. Prime trips include the 12-hour extreme, 39-hour, and 44-hour trips.
• Scamp Grouper: Use small to medium pinfish and cut threadfin, especially while targeting mangrove snapper.
• Mangrove Snapper: Near shore, use live shrimp and small chunks of threadfin on 30-40 lb test with 3-4/0 hooks. Offshore, use bigger chunks of cut threadfin or medium pinfish on 40-60 lb test with 5-7/0 hooks.
• Vermillion Snapper: Start around 100 feet of water using cut squid or threadfin. These fish are aggressive and not leader-shy.
• Yellowtail Snapper: Use shrimp, cut squid, and threadfin.
• Pelagic Species: Keep flat lines and pitch rods ready for sailfish, kingfish, wahoo, tuna, and mahi mahi.

Summer Lake Toho Fishing report
The bass fishing on Lake Toho this summer has been some of the best and most consistent we’ve ever seen, and it’s due to some unique circumstances. We’ve been getting more rain than usual along with the lake having more hydrilla in it than ever before, and both have actually made for some excellent bass fishing.
The water, which typically has a algae bloom at this time of year, is the cleanest I have ever seen during the summer, and the bass are loving it. Mainly because of the extra rain we’ve been getting, there has been a lot of water flow between the lakes keeping the water fresh and clean. We are averaging an incredible 30+ bass a day right now on just our 4 hour trips. With 40+ fish days happening multiple times a week.
The bass are schooling up like crazy in the large open areas out in the offshore hydrilla, and in the areas of running water throughout the lake. Once you find one
of these schools, it’s just one after another. The bulk of the fish we are catching right now on our charters are coming off of shiners.
With the live bait you can get in these schools and start catching. But for artificials, the bite has been largely on flukes, speedworms, and chatterbaits in the hydrilla. And jerkbaits, and rattletraps in the areas of running water, with some topwater action early.
You want to look for large mats of hydrilla and peppergrass, throwing speedworms and chatterbaits around the thicker hydrilla, and flukes and jerkbaits around the thinner areas of hydrilla and peppergrass. For the areas of running water, focus on the entrances and exits where the water flows in and out of the lake. Keep an eye out for schooling fish busting on bait as the fish in these areas can move quickly and the quickest way to locate them is when they show themselves.
This summer has been the best that I have seen in years for bass fishing on Lake Toho. So if you’re in the area on

NLBN Team Fishes Flamingo!
The last 10 days has been fun; I have fished Key Largo and Flamingo. I have been using the NLBN products for the last year and a half. In that time, I have rigged with NLBN 3 inch for all artificial fishing. I have along with anyone who fished on my boat has used their products. There not really any secret way to use them or at least that’s what I thought. I have been trying to get the owners out fishing my favorite place, Flamingo!
This past week I fished with Brandon he’s the designer of the lures, and Andrew who runs the warehouse. They brought their video/camera man Trevor to get content for their U tube channel.
We launched in the backcountry and headed out. It didn’t take long, and Brandon had a slot Snook. The Idea was to work our way towards the coast and catch the tide falling out there. I hit all my favorite spots on the way. we got into some 10lb Jacks waking in 1 foot of water which was cool. Brandon led one with his 3-inch paddle tail and the jack killed it. we played with them a little bit, but Snook was on the menu.
I stopped in an area where I get some Goliaths. The didn’t play on the first spot but he did hook a Tarpon.
The Tarpon spit the hook, so we went to the next Goliath spot. As we approached on trolling motor, we spooked a bunch of Tarpon laid up on the bank. Brandon’s 5inch paddle tail got slammed a couple of
times, his rod was doubled over and hooked up and then it was gone. On to next spot nothing giant but a couple Trout and a small Goliath. On to next spot This is my best hole and it didn’t take long!
Brandon dropped the lure and set the hook and muscled the fish up from a 8 ft hole. The fish was a giant but was biggest enough. He landed the fish and after a picture he cast in there again. This time the fish was a little bigger. We landed it and more pictures and released. Brandon was getting ready to catch number 3 but Andrew was casting into a different spot and hooked a nice 15 lb. Goliath on really light tackle.
I had told them how great Tarpon Bay could be if conditions were right. It’s been a long time since it’s been right, but I made the long run back there. The salinity level was high, the Trout, Jack and Ladyfish were back there. That wasn’t what we were looking for, so we ran to the coast. Andrew caught a Snook and a Redfish and all we needed was a Tarpon.
I was just hitting all my spots and then it happened after catching a few smaller Snook, Brndon’s rod bent over, we knew it was big. I was grabbing my net, this was a giant backcountry Snook. The fish was using the current to stay away from getting netted, but we got it,
It was getting late, and I said we need a Tarpon for a Grand Slam. They agreed so we made a long run and Andrew got one. It was a fun day with plenty of fish all caught on NLBN lures. The colors used were the Greenback, Pink, Mud Minnow and a few top-secret ones.
Incredible day, lots of laughs and watching Brandon cast his bait caster was fun. It’s a fun group of really good anglers running a fantastic company of a product that catches fish!
I have also been fishing in Key Largo; the Mahi have been as close as 120 feet off of Molasses. There have been some small Tunas and Bonita’s chasing the flying fish and eat weedless lures.
I had a great day with my nephew Andrew and his girlfriend Courtney. We started out on Tarpon, caught some Snook, Goliath, and Trout were stacked up. We were back to the ramp by 12.
It’s the busy time of year and just glad to be busy. If you would like to fish Flamingo, Key Largo or Biscayne Bay give me a call. If you have kids that like to fish, bring them. Fishing is only going to get better in next couple months, Let’s Go Catch’em!

UNITED STATES COAST GUARD FLOTILLA 7-16 OFFERS SAFE BOATING CLASSES IN GULFPORT, FL, MEETS THE THIRD WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH. These classes qualify the attendee for the FWC Safe Boating Card. This card is required for most people born after January 1, 1988 to legally operate a power boat with greater than 10hp motor in Florida. The one-day class includes instruction on safety equipment, boat handling, rules of the road, navigation aids, communications, trailering, legal requirements and others. Power and sailboats are covered, as well as personal watercraft. Of course, besides making a boater in compliance, the main goal of the class is to create a safer boater. Classes are offered on the second Saturday of each month. To sign up, contact Marty Richardson at (630)674-5352. Flotilla 7-16 also performs free courtesy vessel safety inspections for power and sail boats, personal watercraft, and paddle craft. The inspector will come to your location, inspect the required safety features of your vessel, and if you pass will provide a safety sticker to mount on your vessel. The inspection is a courtesy, so no action is taken if problems are found. But the vessel owner then knows of any deficiencies to correct before having an accident or being sanctioned by the Coast Guard. To get more information or to schedule an inspection, contact Howard Bush at (305)731-3580.
Anyone interested is invited to attend. Contact Flotilla Commander Howard Bush for more information at (305)731-3580.
A VESSEL SAFETY CHECK - STUARTDespite numerous COVID-19 restrictions, more and more boaters are taking to the water to alleviate at-home boredom while taking advantage of the open-air benefits and more pandemic-free aspects of recreational boating. But if you haven’t been out boating in a while, are your vessel’s lights operating properly? Do you have a sufficient number of life jackets for the number of passengers aboard? Is your engine’s ventilation system up to par? To get you started on a new year boating adventure, now may be a perfect time to consider getting a 2022 Vessel Safety Check (VSC) offered by certified VSC examiners from the St. Lucie River Power Squadron, also known as America’s Boating Club of Martin County. These trained VSC examiners from the local squadron will point out safety features such as minimum requirements required by the U.S. Coast Guard, examine fundamental mechanical aspects of your vessel, and answer questions how you can have more fun safely on the water. These are just a few of the many discussion points covered in this voluntary examination. As an added plus, Vessel Safety Checks are free to boat owners. And if you don’t “pass muster” with the thorough examination, the summary report is yours and yours alone. No record of any possible deficiencies will be reported to the USCG, state agency or any other authority. Want to know more about this complimentary Vessel Safety Check program? Contact Peter Burns at (772) 486-2684 or burnspet@aol.com. St. Lucie River Power Squadron, one of more than 300 squadrons nationwide, also offers safe boating classes to the public. Check on their website, www.slrps.org, when classes will resume. Information about the parent organization is available at www.usps.org.

COAST GUARD AUXILIARY OFFERS VESSEL SAFETY CHECKS AND SAFE BOATING CLASSES - A Vessel Safety Check is a complimentary check of your boat conducted by members of the Auxiliary, confirming that it meets both federal and state requirements for safety. No citations are issued, and the results of the safety check are not reported to any enforcement agency, but a decal is awarded to display when the vessel has passed the examination. The Vessel Safety Check (VSC) is performed at your boat, whether in a slip, at the launch ramp, or in your driveway, by a certified Vessel Examiner, at a mutuallyconvenient time. It usually takes 20-45 minutes, depending on the size of your boat. After successful inspection you are awarded a vessel safety check sticker which is affixed to your vessel near your state registration sticker. Chapman School of Seamanship Partners with BoatUS Foundation to Offer New On-Water Powerboat Training Courses
From beginners to more advanced, modular-style, NSBC curriculum progressively builds experience
STUART, Fla., May 27, 2025 – The Chapman School of Seamanship, a respected 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a leader in maritime education for over 50 years has teamed up with the nonprofit BoatUS Foundation to offer two new National Safe Boating Council (NSBC) on-water training courses to promote safe and responsible boating.
These hands-on courses are designed to meet the needs of beginners who are new to powerboating, experienced boat operators looking to refine their skills, and marine patrol personnel who require professionallevel training for vessel operation.
The collaboration reflects both institutions’ ongoing commitment to enhancing boating safety and education by providing accessible, nationally recognized training that equips mariners of all experience levels with the knowledge and confidence to operate safety on the water.
The first new course, “Intro to Powerboating,” is great for those just starting out and includes the first two (of four) NSBC training curriculum modules. NSBC Module 1, “Introduction to Powerboating,” takes students through safety gear and the prelaunch checklist to on-water boat handling. This includes centering the wheel, shifting gears and station holding, or staying in one place while wind or current effect the boat. NSBC Module 2, “Precision Docking & Boat Handling,” covers departing from a dock, 180-degree turnarounds, docking on port and starboard, and how to keep watch and avoid distracted boating. Intro to Powerboating is offered for $450.
Courses are held aboard single engine powerboats up to 26-feet in length. On water class sizes are limited to a maximum of two students per vessel, ensuring each student gets quality time underway. The minimum age to participate is 11 years old, making the courses a great option for families as well.
Since 1971, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Chapman School has trained more than 30,000 students from around the country to around the world, growing from a single vessel to a modern 9-acre waterfront campus of classrooms, labs, dormitories, and large training fleet. Instruction includes certification for professional mariners, Yamaha outboard technicians, marine surveyors, and safe boating instruction for recreational boaters through “learn at the helm” and classroom instruction. In 1982, the Florida State Legislature and House of Representatives designated Chapman School of Seamanship as “The Maritime School of Florida.”
BoatUS Foundation’s On-Water Training partner programs are offered at 22 locations across the U.S. and can be found at BoatUS.org/On-Water.
Boating Essentials is the most complete course offered by Chapman and offers the greatest savings. It includes all four NSBC on-water training modules. NSBC Module 3, “Open-Water Boat Handling,” covers boat trim, displacement and planing, ferrying, emergency stops, landing and departing from the shoreline, maintaining position in wind and collision avoidance. Module 4, “Advanced Maneuvers,” teaches students how to properly handle wakes and waves, more emergency stopping, man-overboard retrievals and avoidance turning maneuvers. Boating Essentials is offered for $700.
Chapman School of Seamanship has two new on-water boat training courses that may be taken in just one day, fitting into busy schedules.
