MID-AMERICA BANK HONORED WITH
FEDERAL HOME LOAN BANK COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP AWARD good real estate loan products, and another is for our people to personally be active and involved as leaders in our communities. I hope receiving this award is an affirmation that we’re hitting the mark on those goals.” Hill said the recognition carries additional significance because it comes from an organization that understands the community banking industry. “There are about 650 members in the Topeka FHLBank district, so they see what a lot of banks are doing,” he said. “For them to single us out is a huge recognition.”

Mid-America Bank has been recognized for its commitment to strengthening the communities it serves, receiving the prestigious Community Leadership Award from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka (FHLBank Topeka). CEO Dave Hill, President Jeff Hill, Senior Vice President of Lending Andrew Madl, and Vice President of the Johnson County Market Julie Dean accepted the award on behalf of the bank. Along with the recognition, the award included a $10,000 charitable donation, which Mid-America Bank chose to split evenly between the Baldwin Education Foundation and the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence. Presented annually, the Community Leadership Award recognizes one member financial institution within FHLBank
Topeka’s district that demonstrates an exceptional commitment to community development. The award highlights banks that go beyond traditional banking by supporting affordable housing, community investment, volunteerism and local nonprofit organizations. FHLBank Topeka serves approximately 650 member financial institutions across Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma, providing funding and programs that support housing finance and community development. For Mid-America Bank President Jeff Hill, the recognition is both an honor and an affirmation of the bank’s mission. “I was honored to find out we would receive the Community Leadership Award,” Hill said. “We have three specific expectations for each of our branches. One is to offer
A Partnership Since the Beginning Mid-America Bank has been a member of FHLBank Topeka since opening its doors in 1997. Hill credits the partnership as an important factor in the bank’s continued growth and ability to serve customers. “The FHLBank has two purposes: to provide liquidity to its member banks and to support housing finance,” Hill explained. He said there have been times when the bank’s loan demand has grown faster than customer deposits. “Our goal is always to grow with local customers first,” he said. “But the liquidity from the FHLBank helps us fill in the gaps. The alternative would be to stop lending money for a while, and that doesn’t work. You can’t be in the business some days and out of the business other days.” The relationship is especially valuable because Mid-America Bank places a strong emphasis on residential mortgage lending. “Housing finance is the core of our lending business,” Hill said. “Their programs support banks financing housing, particularly long-term financing, first-time homebuyers and affordable housing. It’s a natural fit.” Continued on page 3
